i havent even thought about animating this beast yet, it looks like an intimidating job and im no animator.:p

animating and reusing vanilla animations are two sets of boots :)

while animating actually is the process of creating new kfm files.
I suggested you simpley look at the Warelephant and rig your Hydra to the bones of that beast. But I undrstand, if you never actually did that, then it might be uncomfortable ;)
 
I'd agree with making it a barbarian beast, like the giant spider or griffon. As it stands there aren't enough wandering mid-level monsters.
 
The Hydra is awesome. Aren't they supposed to ave more heads though? Maybne this one just hasn't had enough heads cut off yet.

I don't suppose it would be possible to make it grow more heads as it gets injured, as as it levels up? Probably not, but it would be cool if it could. It might be cool if this creature gained extra strength from combat (to represent the added heads) but was weak to fire (I guess you could even make it so that it doesn't gain strength if facing a unit with fire damage).

I think it could be cool as a new barb beast hero or a planar gate unit. If if doesn't start out too strong, it would be cool to get one from a Planar Gate and Temple of the Overlords, since Hydra's are aquatic (oh, and they should ave water walking).


While I guess elephant animations could work for the body, I suspect that the heads will need to be a little different.
 
I thought they had anywhere between 5 and 12 heads. It just says on wikipedia "numerous heads" . :lol:

EDIT: It also says on wikipedia: the poets mention more heads than the vase-painters could paint.

So they could have a lot more than 12 heads.
 
Yeah it'd be sweet as a Barbarian Hero unit, but seems it ought to have Immortality, and a python hook to interrupt it should the other unit have Fire damage. But without any capitol city, Immortality doesn't work for Barbarians :( Maybe a respawning event instead?

And yeah, exact opposite ability of the repentant angel would be sweet.
 
seZereth: Speaking of animation, did anyone ever animate the cool Lamia/Naga you created a while back?

roland created it and Ploeperpengel wants to animate it, dont know the progress though.

I believe that that when you have no capital, immortality causes the unit to flee to the nearest open tile.

Speaking of the repentant angel, I think that one is still missing a model. It just shows up as a big red blob. The last time I checked anyways.
 
Last I checked, it showed up as identical to a normal Angel units (except I think it may have been larger)
 
Smjjames, have you got the latest patch? I reported the repentant angel red blob problem when 0.31 first came out, and it was fixed in patch 'a'.

It is very possible. It would need 5 different models but techwise it is possible to use new models as it gains, for example, combat promotions.

oh yea, I think it was that origionally I did not have the patch installed. That should be fixed now though.

thanks, and about the number of heads, i could add more if you dont mind it being in the 3000-3500 polygon range. as it is its 2400 polys :p i was originally planning 7 heads but the polygon count was getting rediculously high so i stopped at 5.

never say never. Have you allways been a modeller?(you got quite good at that!).

:lol: no ive only been modling for... just under a year? i started out with buildings and the hydra's my 4 unit modle. i guess i should try making a REALLY basic unit, one that dosnt have wings, 5 heads or 4 legs, or floats and animating that. start simple they say :p i like to start complex

it would be easy to make multiple modles, ill just chop off a head and fill the hole. so if people think that would work id be happy to do it.
 
Could someone re-upload the fangorn style Ancient Forest? Think SeZereth did it, not sure. If someone has that gold retexture and could reupload that, that'd be swell too!

I just tried again getting this one to work like a real forest, but it didnt.
furthermore let me know if you encounter any transparency issues or something.
