Update 1: Beneath the Scepter

House of Carlinn Brutally Murdered
In the weeks following the Long Night, the month of Uktar is eventful as the Constellation of the Scepter shines bright in the sky for weeks. Seers claim the god of murder acts on Erebus. Deep in the forest north of Dahlia, the noble Carlinn family’s home was found burnt to the ground. Body parts were found to lay strewn about the area. Rumors fly throughout the country as to who did it. Some say it was the resident loggers in the area. Others say it was the work of despicable mercenaries. The Nephilim Parliament put forth an immediate proclamation stating that the murders will be found and justice will be served.
House Carlinn Destoyed

Acheron’s Horde Goes to War
The city of the Red Hills near the border in Horde territory has been captured by mysterious foreigners. These soldiers have pale skin, are muscularly built, and speak the Common Tongue with a thick, guttural accent. The battle itself was swift, for these soldiers are said to have silently made their way into the Red Hills under the cover of darkness and had slew many of the sleeping orc troops before an alarm was sounded. The remaining poorly trained orcs, however, didn’t even give these invaders a difficult struggle. Many surrendered upon finding themselves at such a disadvantage. Rumors spread that an underground resistance in the Red Hills has formed.

Corpse Co. Catches On
The rich and well to do have decided that undead servants would be far superior to their whiny house staff. It seems this could become the next fad to assail the upper castes of Nephilim society. Corpse Co. is being flooded with orders. Can they keep up with the demand?
Corpse Co. gains Arts bonus of +1% in Dahlia.

Lugus Worship in Dahlia
Aftermath of the Long Night has inspired Lugus worship in Dahlia. They say Lugus will abandon the Expanse for good if he does not receive his due respect. Shedu missionaries traveling about the Nephilim countryside petition the parliament for the right to circumvent anti-religious legislation and build a temple to Lugus.

Ghosts Sighted
Nephilim Miners twenty miles out of Dahlia claim to have seen a ghost, just like one of the ones seen during the Long Night. Miners are too afraid to work, and the owner of the mine is forced to put it up for sale.
A Copper Mine in H3 is for sale. Contact seller for more information.

Diseased Crops
Due to poor agricultural standards many cities in this area of the Expanse have found their crops to be diseased. Sickness has been spreading through the populations of Dahlia, Kalm-el-Min, and Hoc-ta-Menet. People would do well to take health precautions when leaving their homes and preparing food. The Nephilim have issued a proclamation stating that they will be putting together a bill to organize a plan to increase national health.
Market Value of all Food in Dahlia, Kalm-el-Min, and Hoc-ta-Menet drops one step in Market Value.

Draugr Sign Open Borders with Nephilim
Military men with pale skin, muscularly built, and speaking the Common Tongue with a thick, guttural accent made their way to Grand Convocation Hall to speak with the Nephilim Parliament. They claimed to be representatives of a relatively distant nation called the Draugr. Diplomatic proceedings have gone well, and a Nephilim proclamation has been announced saying the Draugr are free to pass through Nephilim lands peacefully.

Wizards Find Logging to be Dangerous
Three followers of the Mens Infinita were seen to be dragged through the streets of Dahlia by the Nephilim authorities. They were put in the stocks outside the Grand Convocation Hall, the building where the parliament meets. An orator came from the hall and proclaimed these prisoners to be suspects in the murder of House Carlinn. Eventually they were brought to the dungeons to await trial. The followers claimed they were only in the forest to find some wood. The authorities say they found the followers leaving the forest were pieces of wood chopped by an axe, yet none of the followers had axes on their person. It was said that two bloodied axes were found in the vicinity of the House Carlinn. The authorities are holding the followes until the trial commences and the Mens Infinita has time to mount a legal defense.
Three Members of Mens Infinita in Dahlia’s Dungeon. These members can not be used unless they are cleared of charges.

Local Dahlia Resident’s think Corpse Co. Stinks
Strange happenings have been taking place in the headquarters building of Corpse Co. Nearby locals have reported a lingering smell of rotting corpses, seeing flashes of multicolored light and hearing explosions at all hours of the day and night (much to the locals' annoyance). Suddenly, the explosions stop and a follower runs through the cemetary looking at the names on each headstone. No one was quite sure who he was looking for, but from the look on his face the rumors have it that his search came up empty.
Corpse Co.’s dedicated research discovers the spells Create Mindless Undead, and Domesticate Undead. Further research in the Domesticate Undead spell is halted by a missing ingredient, and more progress requires an exotic spell component called a Canopic Brain.

Ljosalfar/Shedu Relations Take a Turn for the Worse.
Shedu authorities are rumored to have captured a fugitive fleeing from Ljosalfar justice. No confirmation is available. However, it is known for sure that the Ljosalfar have severed diplomatic ties between the two nations.

An Omen

Spoiler :
"It was already dark when the miners returned to the surface after a hard days work. They were tired and thought only of returning to their humble homes to sleep as usual, when on of the first to reach the surface suddenly stopped as if frozen in place. Several of those behind him hesitated, and a few mumbled questions along the line of "what's happening?"
Four men in armour stepped out of the murky darkness around the first of the miners. They were clad in strange clothes and their eyes shone bright blue. A nerveous whisper spread among the miners: "The Dib'Ma-Hal!"
One of the riders stepped forward so that all of the miners could see him. In his belt was a long, slim blade. He looked the first miner in the eyes. "Indeed. We are the Dib'Ma-Hal. But you need not worry. We have come to help you."
One of the miners had regained his composure and stepped forward, asking in voice seeped in irony, "how so? Give us food and drink? A horse to ride home, perhaps? Or a sword like that to keep robbers at bay?"
The strange rider laughed. "Those of you who listen could end up with both sword, horse and plenty of food, yes. But much more than that would await you." He knelt and picked up a handful of sand.
"You will never need to fear the threats of the desert again. You will be able to deal with bandits, you will have food to eat and plenty of water. Even the sandstorms obey us here."
The miners watched in abashed silence as the man clenched his fist. Spring water ran from his grip and dripped onto the sand. "If you dream of something better than this daily bore, come with us."

The Dib'Ma-Hal had quickly adapted to the dry and merciless terrain of the desert. The luxuries of green grass and lush, ripe fruits was long ago replaced by the harsh and dry foods of the desert.
When they gathered food, they often hunted the Desert Rats as well as straying camels and other animals they could find.
But they had also learnt to appreciate the dry fruits of the desert, not visible to the unadapted. Figs and dates grew on palms as well as the hostile cacti, and the Dib'Ma-Hal gatheres filled whole baskets with the dry fruits. Eaten with plenty of water on the side, these foodstuffs contained plenty of energy and nourishment to keep the men going.
Granted, it was not the luxurious food that the traditional mercenaries or bandits would please themselves with, but eating was not entertainment to these riders. It was a necessity, nothing more.
If they needed anything else, they turned to their God for it.

A Dib’Mahal follower spots a vulture flying south with a serpent grasped in its claws. He claims it must be an omen. Dib’Mahal gain 1 faith point.

Great. Looking forward to stats so I can write some more orders and stories.

Oh and the spoiler contains two stories, it splits up where the double line change is :p

Ken, if things like certain constellations appearing and other stuff like that happens, I hope we get a chance to use it in the orders/stories for our orders now, since we didn't know in advance (and if no, I would like to know such things in advance :p) ?

Good update. I'm looking forward to stats as well. I'm a little surprised that spell knowledge is public, but ok. Knowing what those spells do would be nice, heh.

Thx. Titles are public. Exotic ingredients needed are public. Details are secret until spell is cast publicly. About a third of the events up there are based off of events in the actual civ4 game. I thought it'd be cool to have that extra element of randomness, So there's really no telling for sure what's going on in the next update. If u'd like to be able to predict the future u ought to research a spell for it.

What I meant was that even though some of the events in the update just posted happened "about a month ago", we had no idea that they would happen back then, so can we use them for something in the orders we are about to write now (ie. can I refer to the constellation on the sky in orders now, even though, technically, it was last update?)?

Ooh, nice update. I like the 'newspapery' format. (Cool about the random events.)

Hmmm, how do I extricate myself from this...

just noticed something in the rules, whats this mean?

I don't understand 'right of passage'. Can it be used in conjunction with a podium?

you need a FAQ section... :)

Still no stats?

Wait a second, Diamondeye, your story is rife with the influence of Dune...

...and a PO destroyed in the first update? 0_o

Heh, I feel like most desert folk are either Arab knockoffs or Dune knockoffs,.

Whose PO was House Carlinn? Are they gone from the game or simply...changed?

I believe it was Thomas Berubeg's...

Nonsense. Now shut up until the Sardaukar look the other way.

And don't worry about that. I am about to read up on some Lovecraft so that I can be properly mentally completely nuts. And I might get myself one of those plush Cthulhus as well.

I don't think I can have orders in for sunday due to the simple reason that I have not recieved stats yet. I'll try, if/when I recieve them.

Same issue as above
