Still, we need more details. How was he imprisoned? Does he ever escape? (I assume that the Black Flames would have little effect on him (by which I mean it is still non-lethal), or else Os-Gabella wouldn't still be around either.)

In true FfH style each of these answers would just open up more new questions.

The team has a design grid to work from. It lists each of the spheres, the god, civ, archangel, opposition and a totem animal for each sphere. It gives us some concepts to work with. The question is, which civ do each of these animals go with (you could also look at it from the aspect of which sphere or god the animal matches):

I reckon the locust is more appropriate for the Infernals than the Sheaim. The Infernals are after all a conquering unstoppable horde that leaves nothing but wasteland in their wake.

That was my first thought, but then I remembered the Great Serpent Constallation was the Sign of Agares. Entropy is the Infernal's Sphere, while the Sheaim's is Dimensional.

It's also similar to the Chinese calendar with thier year of the dragon, year of the monkey, so on. It has the same stuff, with some subsitutions.

I think you are over looking the fact that both AoI and the constellation event specifically say that the Bear is the sign of Mulcarn. AoI also specifies that the Mammoth (Elephant) is the sign of Cassiel, and the Eagle the sign of Kyorlin. I remember Kael specifying that the Malakim symbol is the Lion, which is also the symbol of the Empyrean and thus of Lugus. The Constellation events tells us that the (Bronze) Owl is the sign of Sirona (and was the old Elohim flag), the Serpent the sign of Agares, and Pegasus (flying Horse) the sign of Tali.

This is going to be a team effort, isn't it? I'm going to explain my reasoning, for posterity:

Snake: Calabim--Thought Sheaim, but avoided the cliche. I chose Calabim because I think snakes fit vampires more than bats, plus the androgynous symbolism of snakes fits the Calabim well.

Deer: Ljosalfar--Their freaking god's got antlers.

Scorpion: Svartalfar--Scorpions are used by assassins, plus chances are by the time you know you're in danger you've already been stung.

Phoenix: Bannor--Rebirth through fire.

Ram: Sheaim? (last option)

Lion: Malakim--A sunny animal, regal, strong

Bat: Clan--I doubt this one is true, but it's my favorite because bats symbolizing fallen angels is so poetic. Plus, the orcs seem a bit blinded by the fall and disoriented. Calabim seemed too cliched to be likely.

Elephant: Elohim--Strong, noble, and motherly.

Rabbit: Luchuirp--A magical animal

Dog: Mercurians--Warlike and single-minded

Eagle: Grigori--Enlightened (good eyesight)

Wolf: Doviello--They like wolves

Rat: Khazad--Reclusive and, well, pack rats.

Chimera: Kuriotates--Diverse

Owl: Amurites--Wise, solitary

Panther: Sidar--Invisible and territorial

Horse: Hippus--Spluh

Raven: Balseraphs--Ravens are the ultimate tricksters

Whale: Lanun--They're wet.

Bear: Illians--I think hibernation is the only thing going here.

huh? I don't equate the Lucichurip with rabbits and rabbits are not a magical animal, unless you meant something else.

Anyways, the one for Lanun is overly obvious as it's the only aquatic animal in all that.
