Final Fantasy Mod Progress Thread, Part III

Ok, thanks guys... Swoggy: I'm using Orthanc's Oriental Dragon for Leviathan (FF VII "Guardian Force), so no need for that...

Storm: Thanks... I remebered to bookmark that link this time ;) It's not so much that I don't know anything about the games, it's just that writing pedia entries is very time-consuming... time that could be used for, say, making a unit or LH.

Well, 8 people downloaded the attachment.... I suppose I could take a stab at finishing it after everyting else is taken care of (just need to do the civilopedia window, the wonder splash window, the victory status screens, and a few other misc items, such as the minimap and turn status boxes).... All the advisor tabs (domestic, scientific, foreign, trade, military, and cultural) as well as the demographics screen and space race screen....

Here's some pics I found for some of the summon SW's. Top left is Baron Castle; top right is Balamb Garden; bottom left is Mag Mell; Bottom right is a picture from FF12 Zodiac Job System, I'm thinking the Zodiac Stones wonder could look something like that.

Spoiler :

As for the other SW's, I couldn't find anything specific enough.

Thanks for the pics! I'll have to see about sorting them out tomorrow... Once I get all the SWs together, I'll add them, then add the summoned creatures.... Baron Castle looks an awfully lot like Aaglo's elven cities, so I think I know where I can get my pedia icons from :mischief:

Thankfully, since I decided to make it so that Summoned creatures couldn't be stealth attacked, I've finally gotten the stealth attack target lists for all the units who have stealth attack done (well, I'll probably give the King unit for Thief clan Khee'bler the stealth attack ability as his special technique, but I'm not messing with the kind units until the mod gets to a more refined stage).

I can't believe that this project is actually nearing completion, though! I mean, all I have left to do is add 16 more SWs and units, and the mod will be ready to go beta.

OK, a quick sneak peak at some of the stuff I've been doing with the mod lately:

The first is demonstrating some of the edited advisor dialog, the second features the modified "Great Works" and the last is just because that particular terrain generation is the first time I've ever come accross something like that: 5 volcanoes within a 20-tile area... Which is why my core is rather spread out in that area (the AI controlling Bastok, in its usual idiotic fashion built a city right next to one of the volcanoes  ).

I have an idea :D For when you land on a goody hut, you should have "You have scored an X" ala FFX-2 or "You have obtained an X" ala... all the others!

You're trying to get me to make a "Krakatoa, East of Bastok" GW, right? :p

:rotfl: That would be too funny... What's even funnier is that despite the fact that there's a grand total of 10 volcanoes in this game, thus far, only ONE has erupted.... I haven't messed with the volcano settings, either (AFAIK).

I've already found a few things that need changing:

firstuvall, I'm bumping the cost of the Cetra shrine up to 60, since it essentially is a half-cost arena that doesn't require maintainance, just like the Yevon Temples are half-cost churches for the Evil civs that don't cost maint (and have 1 less :D but double sacrifice), and the Myrrh trees are half-cost marketplaces that don't require maint for the neutral civs.

Secondly, I've found a few minor pedia/other errors, and I'm also wanting to replace some building icons with updated versions (such as replacing the current hot springs resort icons with the new civ-grass versions that Ogedei made for his one Asian buildings pack), as well as update the Yevon temples to be culture-specific. (I'll see about rounding up a preview sometime later tonight).

Quinn, Good idea... I'll have to modify the script or lables.txt files... I've already changed the word "gold" for "gil" in all the text files..... I'd also like to modify the easter-egg advisor quotes if I knew for sure that only a specific advisor woud say them (I'll be changing the one about culture that's a paraphrased quote of Yoda's to something referring to the Farplane, since Yuna is the cultural advisor)..... I think it would be funny as hell to go to the science advisor screen, and instead of seeing "Compared to you, most people have the IQ of a carrot," you see, "SHUT UP! You're gonna sit down in those chairs and drink your G-- D-- TEA!!!" (Cid is the science advisor), or go to the military advisor tab and instead of seeing the "We will always triumph because CivX is dumb", replace it with some appropriate Sephiroth quote.....

Cid: "Shut up, Sit your ass down in that chair and drink your goddamn tea!"

And for the military quote, Barret is a source of good ones:
"Vermin! You Shinra the ones that are the damn vermin. And that makes you the KING Vermin!"
Just replace Shinra with CivX :D

Edit: and maybe Reno's quote "We may be retreating, but... we're still victorious." could be woven in too?

Actually, I believe that I have the correct version of Cid's quote (I'll have to wait until I get home and can dig up the screenshot I took of that [in]famous quote)....

Also, since Sephiroth is the military advisor, perhaps something like ...but $CIV0 stole the planet from mother! They must pay! (Can't remember how Sephiroth's rant about Jenova goes exactly, but you get the idea)....

OK, I couldn't find my screen shot, but I do have some more screenies from my test game (found another bug: There were errors in the Selkie Thief's INI file).

On the left, we have multiple Aeris sightings, and on the right is what you see when you build the Adventurer's Guild Hall...

Perhaps as a splash, but that pic is a bit small (splashes are 320x320... That's only 246x190, and while I can shrink pics without any loss of quality, enlarging them and getting the result to look good is difficult at best)...

...And I just thought of one: The Fire Shrine (FF III), wasn't that more or less just a volcano?! If so, I may be able to "borrow" the "Vaul's Anvil" wonder from the Warhammer mod for that one....
