Firaxis: Patch coming next week

The internet really is a hateful place. Ordinarily, people would be a bit annoyed that the game doesn't work as well as it should, but they'd find something else to do and when the patch came out they would be happy. But in places like this, people's hatred feeds from each other. It snowballs with ranting forum abuse and hate-mail. Seeing that other people are pissed off as well reinforces the feeling, and people claim that 'sense of belonging' by joining with the mob.
Cool it, people. It's no big deal.

I hope the patch is coming soon, I went from getting the hard reboot after 1.5-2 hours of play to the random and frequent crash to desktop. Heaven forbid I need to tell my worker to chop a forest or build an improvement. Thats like a 33% chance of a crash EVERY TIME. sigh

My personal opinion is that the last Firaxis' announcement means that patch won't be released that soon. They are testing, developing or doing something else but they don't have it yet for sure. If they had it they would not publish this kind of "last minute" announcements, IMHO, targeted just to calm down annoyed community waiting for patch. I, personally, am not in hurry waiting for patch because I don't experience much techical problems, except for low performance on my GeForce Go6600.

for those guys who have an issue with slow and stuttering gameplay. Try and install the blue marble graphics mod. For whatever reason the game seems faster

I agree but I find myself much more surprised by the reaction of some others who have got the game to run optimally towards those who are 'venting' out of frustration. I for one don’t hate Take 2, Fieraxis, or anyone else but I am very frustrated about the state the game was released in. I cant count how many times selfish people have posted- Works fine for me; upgrade your machine! As though those of us who cant get the game to run very well on some (or many) level(s) are running junk machines and/or cant maintain them..... No, dont look at the software as problematic, that can’t be. There are a lot of People willing to defend, rather adamantly, a game that is obviously having problems for many. Yes I know it works well for many of us but that doesn’t change the fact that it doesn’t work well for quite a few of us also. We keep hearing from many that all programs have bugs and need patched. Again this treats those of us who voice our disappointment as naive and/or new to gamming. I have been gamming since ‘91 and I have never bought a game with so many game stopping problems outside of Ultima 9 ( that was worse believe it or not) but many of the defenders act as though every game that comes out is like this... That just flat out is not true. I am surprised to see so many people jumping on others without any empathy for how frustrating this can be. It’s as if many out there think we want to destroy all things Civ related? Hardly!! The game, from what I can see, is very good; now I just want to be able to enjoy it. I know some have been more vocal than others and that they may write things they probably don’t really mean but you have to experience the aggravation to know where they are coming from. Especially after we have rumors of a forth coming patch- one last week and then another this week, both of which failed to materialize. So I think what we see is the frustration from being unable to play what is a very good game! I haven’t been as vocal only because I can play it, albeit with massive slowdown after any number of different things ( cant even go into my Military adv. screen.. jeesh!). When Ultima 9 came out the people on the boards who were able to run it without problems where supportive of those who couldn’t get it to run right. However here it seems like the opposite- Cant get it to run? Too bad, not my fault so I don’t want to hear about it. Go start a damn whiners forum!- These attitudes still don’t fail to surprise me, especially on a web board for Civ enthusiasts. Apolyton's isn’t quite as bad but it goes on there too. I would suggest that rather than being so quick to complain about those who are 'venting' just move on. If you don’t care, don’t bother telling them. You can avoid a lot of flame wars that way I think? Just a suggestion anyway… Lets just hope the patch remedies most of the problems.

Great, you have no problem throwing 50 dollars away. Good for you. Tell you waht Since you like paying for nothing, I have a bridge I want to sell you. Its not fully built yet. In fact it needs some patching, and I will get to it some time. I won't tell you when. I won't even talk about it until you have seen it is not a bridge at all. Then after you figure this out, I will wait 3 to 4 weeks to even tell you I am working on finishing it. But Hey you don't mind that right. Then I won't tell you what it is I am fixing, just that I am fixing it. You will never see me working on it. Not at all. But I have your money, and hey your fine with that. Because I said I would eentually get to it. RIGHT.:D

I agree with Blue here. If you think that we have no right to demand that the product we paid good money, then why don't you volunteer to refund our money for us.

Candidly, I am sick and tired of trying everything under the sun and still getting graphics that is like walking through molassas, then having the game crash when I try to play anyway. My patience is at an end!

I think that Firaxas if derelect in it's responsibility to it's customers, and that means all of us. When I purchased Civ III, there was nothing like this going on. There is simply no excuse for this terrible habit of throwing out junk and expecting the customer base to take the shaft up the arse, and not even bother to grease the shaft for us, so we can half way like it.

Am I PISSED here? You are Damned right I am!

Now, if you don't like reading out outrage, then don't bother to read it, or give us our money back. And quit *****ing about our outrage! Because I am truely outraged.

Wow folks. Internet = serious business.

I can really only ask where you people have been hiding out for the last ten years. This is nothing new. Trying to engineer a software product to work on every conceivable hardware configuration known to man is practically impossible.

As for me, I spend/waste so much money on video games that $50 is a drop in the bucket. I've bought over $700 in games this year alone. One not working out of many to choose from isn't going to kill me.

 I will say this again, because it just pisses me off to no end. Its drones who take that attitude that allow gaming companies to put out games like this. If you can call it a game. I think it is more of a puzzle. How the hell do I get this pile of crap to work.
I don't really care that it may be hard to make a game. I could care less how hard it is. But to say just deal with it, they will patch it is wrong. Thats like me saying, hey I really don't know how to make a good car, but just buy it. Its hard to make brakes that allow it to stop on every surface. Would you accept that. HELL NO you wouldn't. saying anything else is an out right lie. And means you just trying to piss us off more in here. WHY. Hell I have no idea why anyone would defend this crap. Unless they work for this company or own stock in ti. Or may just maybe run a site that has a direct link to it from the official civ page which brings in advertizing dollars. hmmmmmmmm. Could this be why the only reviews out there are good.
You want an honest review of the game. Here it is.
The game itself looks like it could be awesome, but, and yes folks this is a big but, it is full of bugs. Wait to purchase until it has been patched at least three times. Do not but anything from this company until they put more pride in there product. Wait till it gets to the bargin rack. otherwise you are in for headaches and heartaches.
On a side note. You spend  700 a year in games. Take a look outside, get some fresh air. Really.:D
As for the final game rating, d+ for effort alone. Anything else is just wrong. If they do get the game to run with out the graphic issues and the ctd. I would give it an A. But for overall value, gameplay and concept I will stick to my D+ until they fix it. :nuke:

Bad products will only encourage pirating. I love Civ games but I hate to waste my money to buy a buggy game. I like to enjoy civ building without worrying that the next turn might crash on me! Every pause in game play makes me paranoid that it will crash.

This patch is unbelievable too long. It's a month since the game was released.

Too bad you can't refund pc games.

It is the worst ever game released in the history of computer gaming.
I do not believe they had the nerve to release this master piece of bugs as a unitm and call it a game.

Aha, a one-post wonder who's never beholden the utter crap that was Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. Now there was a game that was bad. So bad they had to issue a patch for the uninstaller before they issued a patch for the game.

Nothing ever has been, or ever will be as horrible as the abortion that Master of Orion 3 was on release. I hope.

See this is why Civ4 being buggy doesn't bother me. I've played buggy games. Hell, I've preordered games buggier than this. I preordered Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor.

If Firaxis can fix the bugs in this game, I don't mind the wait. I've waited over a decade for a Civ game in 3d, I can wait a few more weeks/months for it to work right.

Front Page Sports Football 99 (?)

Ruined the great legacy of computer football created by the original FPS football and recalled the game and shut down an entire division of Sierra Sports... (or at least the serious sports - they released bull riding afterwards)...

MOO3 is still for sale...

outpost released by sierra in 1994 basically said something like "our child has to leave home today even if he isn't ready" in its readme. i'll put it up against moo3 in a one on one, battle of the prerelease expected A+ title but really a box of crap bowl.
