Foreign Policy: RealmsBeyond

I agree that we don't need to mock them. Offering the Marble, when they know that we know they wanted it for Taj and they also know that we know they are already getting it from the Germans is mockery enough.

We should send Aivo's edit and offer Marble in game right away. If they refuse it then we have fulfilled our part of the deal.

We'll need to coordinate the gifting of the Marble and the sending of the message. APTMod sends an email notification anytime an in-game deal is made, so these should occur as simultaneously as possible.

Bistrita, can you post when you will be proposing the gift so Caledorn or I can send Aivo's message at the same time?

I think we can sent the mesage,i will ofer marble anyway if they take this turn good if not next turn.

I went ahead and sent the message, seeing that bistrita is in-game. :)

Great, thanks :) I'm working right now, so not too much time to spare.

I don't like that everyone can see all the deals sometimes. It's so hard to be perfectly sneeky

Here is the reply we just received from RB:

Hi Caledorn,

Thanks for the offer but its not a good time, can we have it in about 10 turns? I'm sure you need it for something since the Spanish have delayed its hook up for so long. ;)

Your Friends,
RB

I think we should reply with something like:

Hi RB Friends,

We actually took care of our Marble needs quickly so that we could gift it to you ASAP as requested. We can't delay another ten turns because that is when we will be needing it back. We have offered it in-game once more. If you do not accept it before turn X, then I am afraid we will not be able to get it to you at all within the timeframe that we had agreed. I'm sure you understand as you said that the gift could be arranged our own marble needs.

Thanks,

Caledorn / CFC

Of course we would need to decide what "Turn X" will be, but I think it's time to give them a choice: take it now or don't get it at all. We have tried our best.

Small edit for clarity

I took that as a nod to the fact that we stole Taj from them. I agree that they believe we purposely delayed until the last possible moment before we needed it for Taj, though.

Lets not lie.

We actually took care of our Marble needs quickly so that we could gift it to you ASAP as requested.
I would not say that with a hand on my heart.

We took care of our Marble because we needed it for our Taj. And we did not settled it earlier was because we were in war and we were in Caste and we could not slave that settler to settle it and still have window of 10 turns to give it to RB, as we had plans to use it ourselves from given date on - our agreement clearly states that the gift will be arranged as it fits BOTH teams interests. Building Taj was in our interest. And we waited 1 turn before we settle it in the last moment because we were building roads and moving troops there to secure the area and we settled it in the last possible moment because we did not wanted to give time to Spaniards to react to it and send military corpus to possibly attack and capture the city if it was not secured well. No place for feeling guilt here on our side.

And yes, their wording and the ;) absolutely tells me they are mad at us for taking Taj and ruining their perfect plans and want to put a note of guilt on us. They think we "tricked" them, but I feel they have the right attitude about it - more like we outplayed them and they instead of whining and crying, they squeeze teeth tight and plan how to win the next time.

:) If it was for me to answer to this RB message, I would have said:

"You can be sure of whatever you want to believe. Hard facts are we needed our marble until very recently and we are gonna need our marble for our own needs again in about 15 turns, so either you take the marble in the next 5 turns and use it in the next 10 turns, or we have to re-arrange our deal as we will be out of the turn 150 window."

I like this a lot. Straight to the point and no more tip-toeing around. We are rivals and we will act in our best interest while respecting our agreements.

One change I would make is to take out the "Believe whatever you want" part. It sounds hostile, and doesn't accomplish anything other than make us seem like un-gracious Taj winners:trophy: Of course they will believe what they want without us instructing them to do so.

Here is my suggested edit:
Hi RB Friends,

We needed our marble until very recently and we will need our Marble for our own plans again in about 15 turns, so we must insist you make a choice. Either you take the marble in the next 5 turns and use it in the next 10 turns. Or we will have to waive our original agreed deadline and re-arrange our deal as we will then be outside of the turn 150 window.

We can't delay another ten turns because that is when we will be needing it back. We are prepared to offer it in-game once more. If you do not accept it within the timeframe that we had agreed, then we will have to try to come to a new one. I'm sure you understand as you said that the gift could be arranged around our own Marble needs.

Thanks,

Caledorn / CFC

Yes, my first sentence was temperament-dictated :)

I like your revision better with one small re-revision on my own. Instead of

I'm sure you understand as you said that the gift could be arranged around our own Marble needs.
I would prefer

I'm sure you understand as we agreed that the gift could be arranged around our own Marble needs.

That looks very good, with 2metra's minor edit as well. I think we should send that. If there's no objections I'll send it later tonight.
