A lot of the newcomers we've been getting are from other forums and don't necessarily play Civ. I know when I joined another forum I've encountered roughly the same problem. So making the five posts isn't quite as easy as you're making it out to be. Sure, they could go in OT and make a few there, but that's not the reason they came here in the first place. Saying "Sure, we'd love you to come in and play our games, but oh first you have to post elsewhere to open up your PM space OR contact a mod" seems really counter-productive and it can be viewed as a turn off to joining. Why should players have to jump through hoops just to play a game? I have yet to see a concrete valid reason as to why this not even being considered. While I'm no expert, it doesn't seem to be all that difficult to make yet another sub-forum on civfanatics. A good chunk of the players that use the forum games section are calling for it, why is the belief among the higher ups that it's not necessary (I could be wrong, but the limited posts here aren't exactly encouraging)? We lost a lot of good games during the previous database dump, we have these new posting rules to open up PM'ing, the forum games section is pretty cluttered as it is... Splitting it off as suggested would appear to fix everything. Is there something more complex I'm missing here?

Essentially since no mod (that I am aware of) is involved in your games, they are still considered amongst the spam that pervades "Other Games"

By removing post count, the mods could wash their hands of any responsibility and let it fly.

If they seperated it, there would need to be a mod to ensure the games with pc, deserve it.. suggestions who that mod could be?

I'd suggest, similar to how Beej became a NES mod first.. a highly active forum gamer should become a mini-mod of the seperate section.

Ordinarily I'd have been against this, seeing as how such a change would cause my postcount to go unforgivably high, but out of fairness to those users who don't post in any other section, this should probably be done.

If the idea of splitting the forum is anathema, would it be possible to base the PM-restrictions on 'number of posts' as opposed to 'postcount'? That would be a bit better (users who sign up to a forum game with their first post - like I did - can just hit up the 'ABC Sentence' game or something similar to get the remaining four posts under their belt).

Methos plays NotW and Diplomacy games, and he also moderates the forum along with Matrix. Trada also occasionally plays mafia games. This probably isn't the issue - I imagine it would possibly be quite trying to delineate the laws on what goes in what forum if this happened. There's already a bit of an issue regarding what's a Forum Game and what's a NES.

The standard VBulletin software defines 'number of posts' as 'postcount'. Even though we all (including the VB developers) know "it ain't necessarily so". So that would be a very hard metric for us to measure, and use inside the toolbox.

I would be in favor of a split. I don't really see a downside, and it would solve a few issues.

Since it's been a few days, I figured I'd revive this since a definite yes or no still has not been posted. What's the status on this? Is it being considered or ignored? If it's not going to happen, personally, I'd feel more at ease if someone from upstairs came down and said why it won't since I have yet to see any solid reasoning against it. Just looking for a concrete answer to put this to rest, that's all.

Twenty votes in support of it.

Have to gathered everyone who is involved in the various games this involves to vote?

Perhaps a greater show of strength is needed?

Then again.. 20 active players should be enough to warrent your own section, escially considering some of the lame duck folders than exist on CFC.

ACTUALLY.

I suggest you secretly start playing in any one of the sections that is no longer used. I can name 5 folders that have not had a post in weeks if not months.. hide in there ;)

Well start a thread in Other Games and get everyone in here!?

Have some organisation, some direction folks! Look where it got us NESers! We're not even a subfolder :smug:

I've always advocated splitting the games forum, I hate how we're always lumped in with the spam.

Some are, a lot these days are no more spam then NESes are. NOTW, diplomacy, lazyNESes, all good things. They are not the same as the ''Name this city'' games and other pointless rubbish.

Perhaps you could go investigate this for yourself before making sweeping judgements :).

You're serious?

I'm absolutely insulted.

I was expecting something a little more educated and informed as to why it won't/shouldn't happen. You obviously have no idea of the time and effort these things take to not only put together and run. The time devoted to NOTW's in particular is astounding; what people can come up with and put together so 30+ players can enjoy is a feat in itself. The Diplomacy games as well - Tasslehoff's Diplomacy 3 was absolutely incredible and an extremely complex game to host. Instead of coming to snap judgments based on the ENTIRE forum games section being quote 'spam', maybe, I don't know, play one or better, design one yourself before making absurd assumptions. Your post alone is case in point why the section should be split. I mentioned earlier that Lazy-NES's were frowned upon by the NESers just because they were in the forum games section lumped in with the rest of the spam. I'm seeing some parallels here between your comments now and their comments then. Hell, if in your opinion the NES'ers are just glorified spam, then why do they have their own subforum? I'm sorry, but with regards to this I want a mod who doesn't have a biased opinion when giving us an answer.

So, just to clarify, anything not related to Civ is spam?

I guess by that logic OT and Other Games are considered Spam as well since there not Civ related.

It seems that there is no love for the efforts placed into the more serious forum games like the DYOS and the NotW series.

If Non Civ-Related stuff is spam, how come they get postcount and we don't?
