Fox-20 -- The Harsh War

Got it....

I beleive that we should pin down NA, but not kill them. There is a multiplier in tech research per living civ, and as this is a AW game ( we can't trade techs ) that will help a little .

Said that , maybe it is time to try to raze some persian cities and try to find the rest of the AI.

There is a multiplier in tech research per living civ, and as this is a AW game ( we can't trade techs ) that will help a little .

My understanding is that this multiplier is proportional to the number of living civs that also know the technology in question. As Sitting Bull is one of the slowest techers in the game, it's very unlikely keeping him alive would raise our beakers/turn.

Go Bull slaying when hammer efficiency looks promising, imo.

The Persians might be expanding a bit, but without immortals, I think we can handle them.

Yeah, there is one more mystery Civ, and we still do not know where Hatty is. So, probably some exploring is in order.

Some comments:

- IMHO, Vienne should concentrate on commerce with gems and silver and some plains for cottaging. So the barracks might not be needed ... I would go granary instead. OTOH, tenochitilan should go production heavy being on the frontline, so cottaging is a bit weird there.

- The pop in Bibracte is working on the 4F1H wheat east instead of any of the 4F2H deers. Getting sloppy, eh?

LurkerAre you guys planning on building the mids? The extra citizens it allows will allow for some killer production. Even without stone or being Industrious, I cant imagine that it would take more than 15 turns with some forest chops. Better yet, prechop some forest until math comes in.

Option 2 is to wait for the AI to build it, but there prolly isnt any stone on the map and it wont get built for a long time.

That partisan event is the one thing that wont make this game a runaway for yall and in truth makes this SG more interesting from a lurker standpoint...not from yours obviously.

You also need to keep chopping out settlers and workers. This map has so much gems that when you settle near it, the city pays for itself very soon.

I don't know what the others think, but the mid's without stone is a huge hammer investment (IIRC, its about equal to 10 gallic warriors  -- I'd rather have those).

We're not running many specialists anyways.

A little while ago, I would have found it quite silly to even think about building eary Wonder in AW Monarch, but here ....

If we can dedicate a city (in our backyard) to build Wonder(s), why not, but our capital has enough thing to build before (settlers and/or military).
Maybe the city by the sea-lake half way between us and (ex-)Monte. It could as well build the 'sea' Wonders for a laugh.
I would be carefull with cutting trees as most are on otherwise useless tiles (afair).

Ok, I already finished my turnset yesterday, but forgot the pen with the save and the pics at home ( just noticed it now :wallbash: ). Will post in +/- 6 h... all is going as smooth as a AW can be.

It was not a very bumpy ride.....

After making some changes in the MM ( to not make Mr Fox unhappy ) I detected some new foes....
Spoiler :

Later analysis showed it is Louis... but it wasn't him who made this ( should had been the Egyptian ... can't see the wall anywhere else )

Maths in, construction queued....

Some scouting in France.....
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0032.jpg

Besides Paris, all french cities have 1 archer each.

I played 15 turns, but still have some units unmoved:

1 - We have a settler ready... I'm for the double seafood city... we need a GP farm.
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0038.jpg

2- Courtesy of a suiciding persian archer...
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0039.jpg

I'm for settling in capitol, but a nutcracking CR3 or a uber-doctor warrior ( we have a combat 1 woodman 3 warrior... ) could be options as well.

3- The NA situation ATM
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0036.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0037.jpg

S. bull made a sortie of 2 dog warriors in direction of the ex-aztec capitol. With some luck in some turns we can take the city ( we have 2 G. warriors and one chariot in the ex-aztec capitol still unmoved )

4- This one is not exactly a problem....
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0035.jpg

:ninja: time  .... I had some luck and captured 3 ( :faint: ) workers from Louis ( only way to make him some evil ATM ... I think I captured all of his work force ). Should we try to bring them home or simply delete them and resume exploring or harrasing? I'm a little divided here: 3 workers is quite a prize.... but it will be hell to bring them home in safety.

Ok, wrapped and ready to go.

Isn't Vienne a GPP farm with 5 deers.
Or we could build "4seafood" in the inside sea (but need an harbour to get there).

I would try to get the uber-medic, but that means getting the WoodIII warrior back safe, so it is not a very short term option since he seems to ba a bit far away...

Vienne seems better for $ IMHO..... all those gems and riverside tiles.

We have another combat 1 woodman 3 warrior south of NA.... but is a little far as well

Got it, I'll be able to play in 24 hours.

I guess the three workers should be escorted home, nice job taking them

Why do we need a GP Farm? The capitol itself is good enough for generating 1 or 2 scientists.

Nice play by the way, but couple of notes:

There should really be a worker or two at Vienne chopping down forests and convert them to cottages and building camps with deers. The capitol is already at happy cap (careful, growth in next turn), so no need to improve the tiles further ... whereas it is Vienne that has further growth potential to become the economic pillar of Icenic.

France looks like it will be the only worthy opponent to us ... with iron that can't be removed through pillaging. Curiously, I see no French axes ... still do not have IW???

I'll checkout your worker MM suggestion this evening, thanks for the tips :goodjob: I agree that a GP farm is not a priority (our Capital will do just fine) -- bulbing GSci for tech is considerably weakened by the AW setting. (Academies are still nice though ;) )

I played 15 turns up to turn 154.

The save looks great, except for a funny general who wants to take on the Frenchies by himself:

craz_gen2_f.jpg

I'm glad I caught that automove. We're also short of workers (in the right position anyways  ), so one focus of this turnset will be to get more workers out.

GreyFox's suggestion for moving the workers at Bibracte to Vienne looked great until I realized we could start a Fur camp next turn -- as our capital was at its happy cap I sent them camping.

Speaking of those captured French slaves, after taking worker #4 we run into a bit of trouble:

worker_cap_fr_f.jpg

I was afraid that the Chariot would kill our warrior and Louis would recapture his workers, so I gently "deleted" them. Our warrior was killed a few turns later.

Barbarians seem to like the prospect of Celtic lands, and are advancing on our position:

barb_swarm_f.jpg

Tenochtitlan is working crappy tiles ( 1/1/0 :( ) so I whipped for two-pop twice during the turnset. Either we should continue to whip there or get a Library.

Our armies have been gathering down south -- so I've tried to draw out one of Sitting Bulls units with a Woody warrior:

draw1_f.jpg

It fails, so I back off our main stack and try again:

draw2_f.jpg

This time we've got him! Two chariots cut the exposed Dogs into ribbons, and our troops move into position:

att1_f.jpg

We loose a total of 1 gallic sacking the city :D

NA_dest_f.jpg

I'd love to keep this city (riverside grass!), but its too far away, and our economy is struggling (too many units) so the city is razed. Sitting Bull is naught but a legend in the harsh war to come -- the Native Americans have been destroyed.

Meanwhile I used the inherited settler to found a city towards Toku, cutting off the pass:

georgi_found_f.jpg

Our grain is too tasty:

grain_f.jpg

At the end of the turnset our main army is poised to sack the Persian city Susa:

Susa_attack_f.jpg

(The next player may want to heal a turn before attacking -- but we could surely use the gold soon).

Our Empire:

And Demographics:
Spoiler :

demo290_f.jpg

Our units are too expensive at this point, so loosing some while razing some Persian cities may be a good idea. I've also added 6 workers (2 built, 2 from SB, and 2 from Cyrus -- this may be too many, but there are still lots of things to build  ).

Because of the unit costs Vienne has started on the 'mids while its workers cottage/chop the terrain. More cottaging needs to be done, especially around newer cities.

Watch out for barbs ;)

Currency then Code of Laws after Construction?

That's my thinking. Hopefully pillage income will be enough to get us that far. The good thing is that none of the AIs seem particularly advanced. (I didn't see any swords or HAs, for example).

Another mention:
Kyoto has a settler, keep on eye on the fellow :)

Nice play ... and the automove must be a mis-click by the previous player ... good that you spot on it. There should be an interface to show all current units on auto mode.

Haven't looked at the save yet, but if it means anything, didn't see anything that requires special attention for the next player ;)

So, without further ado ...
