Fox-20 -- The Harsh War

Point taken, it is early growth vs early commerce. I think both are valid, baring a painstaking modelling using Excel ;), it is hard to say which is better. (But, although it is entirely a trivial technicality, I must point out that I never say we need to hook up the gems. The important factor is the commerce, not the happiness, yet. So roading is not necessary ...

Good point, however if tiles are not roaded then a worker would have to walk through two forests on the way to the gem mine and two forests on the way back. Thats at least two worker turns lost to movement.

T0 - 2375BC (T65)

change citizen to grow in 1t instead of 2t :).

T2 - 2325BC
Meet a egyptian archer wandering SW of Kyoto (war of course)
fox20egyptnf8.jpg

Dance with a bear at the gap toward Monte (bear killed before the end of the round)

T4 - 2275BC
Spot a hut in the far icy west...

T5 - 2250CB
Gaellic-> Axe

get XP in the hut :(
In fact it is not that bad, the warrior is now Wood III, just need to go back home safe...

T7 - 2200BC
Judaism Fidal.

T9 - 2150BC
Axe->settler

T10 - 2125BC
Agriculture->Archery
(we will need some defending troops for our frontline -as well as attacking ones - and archers built in a dun+barrack city will be holding nicely in hilly cities).

Capture a worker from Monte (foolishly outside ??)
fox20monteworkerrs9.jpg

Monte still has 2 archers (CGI+no promo) defending at size 2 : building a settler ??

T11 - 2100BC
Kill the wandering bear betwwen us and Monte on defence.

Monte has a 3rd archer (Combat I - so it is an attacker, he indeed go out to chase the worker)

Toku has build another worker in his still size1 city, will move away to try to catch it
(needed as well to escort the worker and kill the bear that will kill our northern warrior in the IBT)
fox20kyotoworkerkx3.jpg

The Native american get the research setback event :)

T12 - 2075BC
change settler -> gaelic to regrow again since the gems are connected now.

T14 - 2025BC
The warrior by Monte in killed by an attacking archer (after pillaging the deer).
2 gaelics have arrived
(only 2, they were only suppose to annoy Monte only - also at that time the 3rd was needed for defence- , but might even have a chance to raze (or capture ?)
fox20tenofo7.jpg

T15 - 2000BC
Monte's stolen worker is killed by a fast wolf going back on its own (we don't really needed him so I toke the risk to have the warrior keeping Monte without improvments)

29% only to attack Teno (for the 1st gaelic with proper promotion), too low, prefer to kill the lonely archer that is outside.

T16 -1975BC
Archery-> Animal (nothing invest)

Stop here

Settler in 2t.
Kyoto (size1, 3archer) must have a worker somewhere around, the woodII warrior should be looking for him.
The previously captured worker is walking back home alone and is almost there (hopefully without meeting an animal)
2 gaelics + wood III warrior are on their way to meet the 2 gaellic next to Monte, if we want to try to capture Teno (holy city+marble there and fit quite well in our possible dotmap).

I spam the map with 'city ?' signs to be discuss, they might be too many cities (and no order), but I wanted all the gems inside BFC and at least 1 food per city.

I also was not playing with BUG, (mainly because of not wanting to swap mod when playing RB Events and/or other SG), but I can give it a try...

I would consider for our next (self-build ;)) city to go for either:
- the east one by Iron+Wheat+gem+deerx2. (very nice and protecting East, and don't need urgently a border expansion)
- one of the cities just south (either 3SE or 4S-1W) has without culture they still have acces to 1gems+2/3deer (1share) as we have no pressure from here right now.
- the 'food city' in the west, without culture, it still get SILVER + 2deer

Nice turns.

I think we are still in a good position, and it looks like a while before the stacks start to arrive. The best long terms city is "Food City", I'd go grab that next.

Pretty good progress here. I am utterly surprised by the AI's lackluster performance. Size 1 at 1975BC???? Pathetic! Did I set the setting at Monarch or Settler?

I am inclined to go for either the Food City or the city with 2 crabs. The city with 2 crabs would be a decent production center, while the food city is a good enough commerce district.

The problem with '2 crabs' city is that without culture, it is useless...

I didn't put it on the map (and it makes several other cities weaker), but there is a FOUR seafood city (and 2 hills?), completely protected by mountain, possible in the middle of the inland sea for GPP farm with or without Maoi (of course we need a port on this sea first to reach, but so do all the AIs)

I've got it for sometime.

I agree with Fox except I'd move the crab city 1N.

Any research thoughts after AH? I assume we'll ignore most wonders, but the SoZ might be nice and the Great Lib is always good to have.

Construction is needed soonish, and Monarchy->Feudalsim would be good as well.

Writing->Math->Construction has my vote. Monarchy is a close second (our capital has so much food ...).

Double crab city would make a nice third city ( 1 like it more 1 N as well , more useful right out of the bat) , but I still think that our second city should block Monty... maybe on the southern fur ( N of the iron ) woulf be a good spot

The thing abt Food City (i.e SilverDeer ... hmmm ... GreyFox likes SilverDeer :yumyum:), is that it is not in any danger, so it can focus entirely on commerce or GPP with minimal defense (but beware of barbs) while we settle a third city for production.

So I see no harm in settling both SilverDeer and SparklingCrabs.

I doubt we would have horses near us (else that would make our start too fantastic!), so I don't know abt animal husbandry. We have no sheeps or cows in our immediate vicinity that require husbands. I would rather go writing or something like that.

The only problem with '2 crabs' being 1N is that there is no (easy) way to get get a city between it and capital to work the gems 5E1S of our capital.

Since Monte is unlickely to get a huge army together, our cities south could be settled more for a long term perspective than a defensive one.

My vote for 2nd city would be would be the move 1E the 'canal city between inside sea and lake (cf my very first dotmap-- edted see below).
This city would have for food only 1 deer + 2 'lighthoused' lakes (+6), but will be high ly productive with 5 (or 6 can't see) hills, including Iron, Gems (furs). (need culture still for all but the deer)

edit : attached old picture (Iron missing of fur of course)

Another good option for 2nd city imho is the city East on the river by Iron, 2xdeer, wheat (and gems after culture), which will be on our way to Japan instead of Monte.

Also I would finish Animal, just to see horse as they are a good source of hammer and we have lots of 'suspect' clean plain with forrest everywhere :) ... (and to have the reduction for Writing).

According the the Gaelic-English translation site here.

Silver Deer is -> Airgiod Fiadh
Sparkling Crab is -> Drithleann Partan
Iron Fur is -> Iarunn Fynney

Possible flavorful city names :mischief:

Yes, I'm back in the SG arena.

No, I don't think I have started 19 Fox games, but I'm simply too old/lazy to remember/figure out what was the previous number I stopped at.

Referencing the very first post in the thread...

All you have to do is click on a player's name, and then click "see all threads started by this player." That tells me you were on Fox10 before this game.

Ok, my "evil" plan has been exposed. Yes, Fox10 was the last one. I was actually planning to have Fox series jump by 10 from now on ... else how can anyone compete with LK series?

There is actually a Gaelic translator?

GreyFox = Liath Balgair .... doesn't seems to have a nice ring to it.

Well, as we agreed I switched research to Writing, then hit enter.

I ultimately decided on "Food City" since it appears to have the most vote and I'm partial to it myself :p

Met another friend close by

With 3 Gaellics at Monte's door and him just growing to size 2, I decided to gamble a bit and not risk him whipping another archer by next turn (and because this is Fox's SG not mine :mischief: ) I attack. The result

Civ4ScreenShot0014-3.jpg

Food city is found next turn

Civ4ScreenShot0015-3.jpg

Delayed because of a bear lurking nearby so I had to send the axe as escort.

Our warrior start harassing Cyrus

Writing came in, and since Tenochtitlan has sheeps we do need husbanding

Civ4ScreenShot0016-1.jpg

I stopped here. Cyrus has 3 cities including his capital. Toku's been building up plenty of archers but his worker is still holed up in his city because of our fortified warrior :D

I just queued up another settler at our capital so no hammers invested yet. I suggest building it such that it connects our newly converted city to our capital. The archer is on it's way to Tenochtitlan as well as the Gaellic.
