Fox08 - The Bad Joke Continues

No prob, Feedback.

The Great Scientist should obviously build the Academy ... is there any doubt that this shouldn't be the case? Bulbing Philo is not really critical since we are already in Free Religion. The only reason to bulb Philo is the Lib Race. There is ample time to generate one more GS for that from CS -> Paper -> Education.

I have no issue getting to CS first before Feudalism ... we can always trade for Feudalism later.

There is no real hurry in getting Globe ... I like to give Colossus a try after the workboat. Just MM the city to slow growth once a workboat is out (go for crabs first). The Great Merchant point is needed (we have none right now).

When we get CS, revolt to Bureaucracy and Caste the same time. I would like to have one merchant specialists.

Turn 143/500 (660 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:26:49]
Munich finishes: Academy I went w/the Academy first w/the GS ~ CS went from 17 to 13. We'll get another one at the end of my set.

I also find a rogue missionary in Roman lands. I'm guessing that this Confu missionary is heading to Rome to try and convert them, but he spends my set mapping our their land trying to find Rome. (It also occurred to me that maybe that’s what he was there for, so . . . )

Turn 144/500 (680 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:29:14]
Argh!

A Mine was destroyed near Mainz I change research to gain 2 gpt, rather than lose 1. Munich also finished its theatre, and started on a one-turn workboat.

Turn 145/500 (700 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:29:55]
W/the WB done, I tried the Colossus ~ built by Holy Rome (not JCs unholy abomination). Instead, try for some defense: Munich begins: Spearman (2 turns) [but not 2 turns! Munich finishes: Spearman ]

Turn 146/500 (720 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:32:00]
I started one more spearman, and our WB netted those crabs (I cross my fingers that’s what His Most Whippedness Mr. Fox wants).

Once that other spear is done in 2 turns, Munich will grow and be at the happy limit for a now; I’m also going to work an extra scientist, too.

Turn 147/500 (740 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:33:38]
Charlie came by on the IBT:

I accepted the deal since i figure we're done w/Aesthetics, and was hoping to get a trade relation bonus, but no. Also, we caught a spy, too, operating near Munich . . . grrrr.

Turn 148/500 (760 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:35:14]
I’m going w/the lighthouse now for some more food for thought (read: specialists). And I finished repairing the damage from our earlier event: A Mine was built near Mainz.

Turn 151/500 (820 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:37:45]
Ugh ~ on the IBT:

I sweated with this for a bit, but since Spain’s power has higher, I decided against Toku’s request. I also started a Jewish Monastery. I MMed a bit to stop growth, and being that I can't see much more bldgs we'll need atm, so I'm going w/some monteries for now for some sci bonus.

Interesting . . .

Turn 154/500 (880 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:40:26]
You see JC declared on Gilgamesh ~ that might be a good fight, as they’re equal in power, but we might get called into it.

Turn 155/500 (900 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:41:03]
Okay, CS comes due:

And I immediately revolt:

I also chose Paper as the next tech. Again, nothing else seemed pressing at the moment. We have a vast number of trades possible, but at the least we need Feudalism and Currency would help, imo. Research begun: Paper (940 Turns)

Ahh, and I get another cool event:

Sweet!

Oh, Buddhist mon done, start Confucian.

Turn 156/500 (920 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:42:16]
Another turn, another event:

As much as I'd like to interfere, i guess we just can't. Chose option 1.

Turn 157/500 (940 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:43:09]
Nothing again.

Turn 158/500 (960 AD) [25-Oct-2007 20:43:31]
On the IBT, we get some visitors:

I say yes to this. We have more than enough trade fodder now, and this’ll help us I think…I hope.

Oh, and our first wartime request comes in:

Sorry, but not yet. Beat him up some more ~

All the monasteries are built; we got about another 40 beakers per turn from them. I'm starting on the Globe now (6 turns) since we're at the happy, and to build a coliseum or any temples seems a waste.

Copernicus is also here, ready to philosophize if we wish. We're getting another GS in 15 turns, but now that we're in caste, we may want to re-jigger the tiles and specialists. I didn't touch ‘em since whatever i did, fox would think it was wrong, so . . .

We can trade drama + lit for currency + cash with HRE. Then we can trade MC for calendar with Izzy (she's incredibly backwards). After the Globe, we can even attempt the Mausoleum!

 we are getting ridiculous number of hammers for an OCC ... :goodjob: sacrificing your lowly blood to the Gods for tin pop. Once the Moai is built, we would have all the hammers we want.

Too bad for the Collosus. I'm going to see how long Philosophy is going to take before deciding to settle the GS or to bulb Philo. I'm unwilling to take the chance of another GS pop before Education is done because we may not get a GS with Globe coming online adding more Artists' gene (and i'm gonna further pollute the pool with Nat. Epic)

I don't recall what good is the Mausoleum ... lengthen GAge? May not be too useful for an OCC.

--

mausoleum = GP points. Plus, we'll probably get the GA from the Taj if all goes well. Then again, that's just more artist pollution so it may be wiser to skip both. If we're not going to build the Taj, then the Mausoleum is nearly useless (except as a fundraiser).

one more thing:

Spoiler my late, bad joke :
A: How do you hide an elephant?
B: I don't know, how?
A: Paint his toenails red and hide him in a strawberry patch.
B: . . . huh?
A: Have YOU ever seen an elephant in a strawberry path?
B: no.
A: Well, there you go!

A pretty long and old joke ... this is to compensate for the short rant ;)

<rant>WTF are the workers idling? Go build roads!</rant>

Spoiler :
Two nuns, Sister Mathematica and Sister Logica attends a covenant in a neighbor town, and were returning to their church late in the evening, when Sister Mathematica noticed something and whispered urgently to Sister Logica:

"I hear footsteps following us. By my calculation, it belongs to a burly man."

"The only logical thing for us to do then is to increase our speed."

And so they did, but later, Sister Mathematica grasped again:

"Oh, no! The footsteps increases in pace as well, and he is starting to gain on us!"

"That is only logical, since a burly man can walk faster than us."

"What should we do?"

"The only logical avenue is for us to split. He can follow only one of us, and the other will get to safety."

And so they split. Sister Mathematica reached the church, told the other sisters about what happened. They got worried and began to organize a search party when Sister Logica finally returns. Anxious (and curious, I must add), they asked the Sister what happened.

"It's only logical that he can only followed one of us when we split, and he decided to follow me."

"Then what happened?"

"It's only logical that I can't outrun him, so he caught up with me."

"Then what happened?"

"It's only logical that any struggle would only lead to more brutality, so I pulled up my skirt."

"Then what happened?"

"It's only logical -- he pulled down his pants."

"THEN WHAT HAPPENED?" these nuns are getting real horny now ...

"It's only logical -- a woman with her skirts up will outrun a man with his pants down."

A rather quiet turnset, just made some trades.

I have also sold JC our gold once we no longer need happiness.

I decided against bulbing Philo, since it is just 7 turns, and we don't really need to beat anyone to it. Better to let the AI research it (thereby lowering the beakers needed). So, I settled the scientist for additional hammer and beakers:

Some events worthy of notes. First, the brand new theater brought us more gold:

It should be obvious which option I chose. Then, a forest growth nearby.

Yeah, that's right baby! Go get your wards to have more orgies, Treebeard and Bombadil! We would need them in the space race!

And finally, some wonders built in a faraway land and Taoism found in a distant land.

We are due to produce one more GP (scientist, most probably): settling seems the most obvious option. Education and the Maoi Statutes would complete the same time, then we should go for Philo (or trade it) while building the university. A workboat to net the fish before the university might be good as we are at healthy cap.

Maybe premature, but we should decide what we want to get for Liberalism. Astro remains the single most lucrative tech in terms of beakers but we do need to divert to calendar and optics (which isn't a bad thing, the harbor would add +3 health and also boost trade yields).

before GreyFox whips me for turning in a set late, I just got back from being out all day and am playing my set. Will post in 30-60 minutes barring a dow.

I wish this were a joke.... I really really do wish it were a joke...

I start the set by changing the build to a WB - I didn't see the need for more hammers and I want the extra health (JC won't trade clams -- fish since he has his own).

Turn 171 - Build WB. A GM is born (the odds!) who is immediately settled (the option was machinery). I turn the slider to 100% at -1 gpt.

turn 172 - the turn of doom. Charlie DOW. Yeah, I guess we all knew it was coming, but our troops are going to get wrecked by his UU since all we're fielding are melee! I immediately (and grudgingly) traded for machinery + map from Gilga for CS + lit. Thankfully it doesn't count as a trade with worst enemy with JC (the power leader by far). We can now build xbows! I upgrade some units (by some, I mean 1) into a xbow and move on to the hills and set the build to a LB.

Turn 173 - Charlie is shuffling his troops around and I try to cover the hills and forests with xbows and longbows. We need to maintain terrain advantage since we're sorely lacking in numbers (and will continue to do so). I shuffle around the tiles to finish the Moai statutes (2 turns to completion after reassigning tiles).

Turn 174 - Education is complete. I set research for gunpowder, as it's the only non-counterable unit that we'll be able to field. With gunpowder + pikes (we need engineering before Charlie fields knights), we should be mostly safe.

Turn 175 - Gilg wants help vs. Rome. You have to be kidding me. I suck up the -1 diplo hit.

Turn 176 - Izzy wants clams for silk. It doesn't really help us and it won't push us to pleased either so I decline.

Turn 177 - I trade lit to JC for 205 gold. More upgrade money.

Turn 178 - JC builds the UoS.

Turn 179 - Izzy builds the AP. I vote for JC in hopes of buttering him up but no dice. He's still cautious with us. A GS is born (yeah fast - only 8 turns since the last great person) and is immediately settled (printing press won't help us).

Turn 180 - (Moai have finished by this point - it's not in my notes as to when I finished it). I had started building the HE, but I realize that we're capped at 5 wonders and may not want to complete it (I burned 1 turn of hammers on it). We can complete it next turn if we want to but now that Charlie has suicided his troops against our fortified hill troops (and lost most of his with minimal losses to us), I don't know if we need the HE that badly now. I have tentatively reset the build to a university.

Unfortunately, the worst news is that JC appears to be going for a domination victory:
Spoiler :

A GG was also born from the Charlie suicide attempt on our positions. I settled him as an instructor (3 beakers!).

My bad joke:

Whats even dumber?

:woohoo: WAR!!! :woohoo:

A DoW is not the end of the world ... I am not sure what Charlie brings without any screenshot, but I am quite sure a few upgrades of archers to longbows should do nicely.

Getting Machinery is great, but a bit costly. May cost us the Liberalism race.

We may consider going Buddhism for a while to boost relations with JC and Izzy ... just enough to bride them into the war. We should also consider lowering research (and hiring more scientists) to build up funds for upgrade. Another possibility is to sell techs to relatively backwards Civ for money.

No, we do not want the HE. It is not worth it.

:trouble: Didn't I say TWO jokes? :trouble:

Noobish lurker question here;

This is the patch 3.13 right?Or is it mod?It seems Isabella's Boobs are smaller than before...:crazyeye:

I wiped out Charlie's stacks. Hence no picture of them. The biggest I dealt with was probably about 6-8 units. Generally 1-2 xbows, 3 melee units (sometimes a UU pike - I forgot the name), and some siege. Our defenses should be safe - hence my university construction. With mustkets and pikes, we should be good on the war front.

Charlie (I think) finished philosophy so none of the AI are teching towards it. It'll stop the liberalism run for quite a while I think. Plus, the Bts AI is terrible at running towards liberalism. I've seen emperor games getting liberalism around 1500-1600 sometimes.

Ok, here's my skip joke:

both jokes are pretty good! This has really been my first Immortal game, and i'm quite surprised how unaggressive the AIs been towards our lone city. we've no doubt got the lowest power rating, but i guess as one city, we're not much to conquer either . . .
