Fox08 - The Bad Joke Continues

I agree on HRE.... He whipped at least 1 archer in that border city during my turnset ( maybe 2 ... not sure ) and that sword is not good as well. Next player shold build/whip a axe, just for caution's sake.

Why are we making cottages, for the Gods sake?? We're in Rep, so farms all the way. Even more, we're in a OCC, so no space for those things. to previous player
definitely cottage the floodplains (for the near term), if you want a 4 food tile build a work boat (it has an extra commerce too compared with farmed fp)

to the game!

okay, first off, I MMed the city to grow next turn and finish the forge as well, so that's taken care of. I also let it go on full growth until pop10, our current limit. At that point, i stopped growth manually ~ could've went for the Temple of Artemis in 10 turns, but decided, given the various power ratings of JC and Charlemagne, i went with an all-military build set; we've got about half the power rating as they do.

We got a couple OB requests:

I took both, just to improve relations a bit with them. Later on, JC declared on Darius, so we may have to close those down.

We also reached 1/2 million people:

and Darius wanted us to jump in the fight with him:

uhm, yeah ~ we have the same size military as you; i'm not interested in your losing war.

And that was the 15 ~ we're unhealthy, so a workboat will be done next turn for one of those sea resources to combat it. Lit will also be done in 2 turns, so we have a heckuva shot at the Library.

Here's a couple of shots of our "empire:"

I meant to cut/paste the unit list onto the culture map, but forgot :( however, we're still doing a lot better than when i picked up the save w/1 archer and 1 warrior in Munich.

Oh, and i was sending that worker NE to the forested grass hill to mine.

edit: I also didn't trade with anyone, but JC will give us a few techs for aesthetics and MC ~ might be worth it. I'll let da Fox decide (and we can :whipped: him afterward)

edit2: I also didn't notice i left on the random civ-related naming convention on; those don't look very German to me

erm... we're losing $$? That's not good... We need to keep 100% research for the whole game as that's the greatest limiting factor for us. Also, we need to hook up the marble before we start the GL.

we're losing money probably from unit maintenance ~ either that or inflation ~ but don't see what we can do to reduce it ~ we should perhaps hire 2 merchants to cover the costs, and stop building units for a bit.

After the TGL, we should focus on having some more units, but now IMHO we need TGL more than units

P.S we are working a unimproved FP... Can we do something about it as soon as advisable? ;)

I don't see the merit in having too many military units right now. We really can't keep up in military strength with the AI at immortal so I would concentrate more on keeping our neighbors happy. Wonderspamming will also help us more than a skeleton army that's going to get overrun by any immortal AI.

As for the AI, Toku is out of the question, as is Izzy (she's bound to get us involved in a bad war). That leaves Charlie as our nearest neighbor. Unfortunately, I don't think he's an easily pleased neighbor. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he a semi religious nut? If we OB with Izzy and Charlie, we should get at least one (if not both) of their religions.

i might've worked that so that we could stagnate, and was more worried about the hills getting mined first. Though, in retrospect, since they were forested, cottaging that might've been a wiser first move w/the worker.

But how long into Fox's set would I've felt the lash for cottaging another FP? :p

well, i know JC and the HRE have the highest power ratings ~ so if we could, they should be the best targets. and iirc, during my set, ahh yes:
State Religion Change: Darius I(Persia) from 'no State Religion' to 'Judaism'
Attitude Change: Charlemagne(Holy Rome) towards Darius I(Persia), from 'Cautious' to 'Pleased'
Looks like same religion would help us a bit ~ it can't hurt.

state religion = bad idea in this game. It'll just antagonize one of our neighbors. Now that I think about it, if we OB and get more than 1 religion, we may want to consider the Shewdagon Paya and switch to early FR. It'll give us :) and 10% research bonus, and the AI won't bug us to adopt a religion (they have to get us out of FR first). Also, we have gold for Paya so that's 200% production bonus with gold + industrious. It's an expensive wonder but may be worth considering (and it produces GP which will help our long-term production and gold). Of course this all comes after the GL...

true about the religion most likely ending up hurting us ~ when is the Shewdagon available?? d'oh, now for us!

maybe after the tGL??

That's what I'm thinking but I don't want to get a Fox whip for suggesting a bad wonder  It depends on what wonders are available to us right now too. If nobody is close to literature, maybe we can build it while we wait for marble to hook up?

What is happening here??? Mr. Fox delayed a :whipped:???
Now I know where this rain is coming from.. Maybe it's raining all over the world now!

Now we have an army to be proud of! At least for 20 turns!
Sucking up to Izzy AND Karl AND Toku isn't something we can do. UNLESS all of them have the same religion, which I really doubt to happen. Maybe it's already time for our war master shyuhe to unleash the first WW of this game? :mischief:

There is so many things that I could rant about with the save I see I don't know where to begin. Leave it for tonight when I play my turnset.

Need. to. concentrate. on. work.

stop. browsing. forums.

work.

Need. to.

...

Now that is a good joke....

oh, it's been so long since i played before Fox ~ i'm so excited!

edit: he must be really sharpening those whips :run:

First, the bad joke: What do you do when you keep calling the wrong number?
Spoiler :
For Christ's sake, stop hitting the $%^&*# "Redial" button!!!!

Next, the rants. I decided to go easy on Pholk lest he commit suicide.

- We missed the tech trade. Tech trading has a very small opportunity window ... it must be decisively carried out, not delayed for an entire turnset. Now, JC is willing to give up alpha only with Aesthetic and MC. I am not about to waste our WFYABTA quotas on a bunch of 200 beakers techs.

- We have no use for work boat now, especially when the hammer overflow is so high. The reason he quoted wasn't valid enough, a simple worker reassignment, road connection to the rice or any of the other 1001 things to do would have easily subverted the food loss due to unhealthiness.

- we are running too little specialist ... the city MM left a lot to be desired.

OTOH, the number of troops built is impressive, well done.

(This is called giving a candy after the cane ;))

Well, as seen above, I switched to a worker. Why? We really needed one more to speed things up. Plus, I intend to whip it with max overflow (which is why I MM'ed the city to produce exactly 59 hammers for the worker to be whipped next turn). Why? Because literature is just one turn away -- and we would be able to built the TGL next turn.

That is exactly what I did. I had also opened the buttons of Isabella ... BORDERS. I mean, open borders. This is to allow our worker to built a marble quarry.

To built the Papaya wonder, we need Mediation. Precisely what I got. We also had a stroke of luck when jade was discovered near iron.

Hmmm ... iron and jade. Who would have thought of that?

Finally, another Civ got alpha, and without further ado, I conducted the trade.

We have been hoping for a religion spread ... now we have it. And not one, but two. The Gods have been busy. But we have too many wonders to built .... don't know if we have time for a temple build.

On my 9th turn, we popped an engineer. Decided to stop here and discuss a bit on how to use him.

Off-hand, I would have go for Parthenon, as it is the most useful one (Moai is national, so no hurry). But someone suggested Shwedagon Paya, which has a very valid point of allowing us to go Free Religion and avoid the diplomatic headaches of conversion demands.

>>> The Save (225AD) <<<

I would go for the Paya. The AI generally prioritizes ToA over the Parthenon and seeing as how either hasn't gone yet, I think we'll have time to build the Parthenon the old fashioned way. Also, FR gives us 2 :) while we build the Globe and avoids any ridiculous conversion demands from Charlie and Izzy. Plus, you can't ignore the 10% research bonus either. Anything to speed up CS is critical (which I'm guessing is our next research goal).

Does anybody have spare copper that we can temporarily borrow for the Colossus? We just need it for about 5-8 turns. But it may be hard to squeeze in the hammers since we want to get the Globe up and running ASAP.

My suggested wonder order: GL --> Paya (revolt) --> Parthenon --> Globe --> monastery x2 --> NE. Then any wonders left over.

Sounds good. I would have inserted the Maoi before the monasteries though, as after Globe, we would be working full force on the seafoods. And of-course, a handful of units here and there wouldn't hurt.

We still have monopoly on Literature, so you can switch immediately to Paya before continuing with GL. It also gives time for worker to complete the quarry. This way, you should MM the city to maximize specialist since we don't need hammers for Paya, and return to maximizing hammers for after revolt GL. By then, the whip penalty would have gone, so can grow to size 10 too.
