Parthenon will probably be completed soon by an AI so it's unlikely we'll get it. But since we're industrial and have a forge + OR, that's a 100% production bonus so we'll get a good hammer:gold conversion. That'll help fuel 100% research for a while so I think we should try for the parthenon (maybe put 2-3 turns of hammers in to it). Of course it contributes to GA pollution so I don't think it's worth completing. We will have 2 sources of GA pollution - Globe and NE so I think it's better to avoid the extra pollution.

You couldn't in vanilla, but you can in BtS (don't know about Warlords; I skipped it entirely). You need to build the corresponding temple first, and obviously have researched Music, but then the cathedral (stupa, mandir, whatever) becomes available.

Thanks Lekdevil.NL, now that you mentioned it, I think I noticed something like that as well.

Shyuhe has a point there, so if we have nothing better to build, we can pump in one or two turns into Parthenon (it has better hammer->gold/beaker ratio than building research/wealth direct ... anyway we can't build wealth or research yet, I think).

I played 21 to bring us to 185 turns and thus a nice number. It was mostly pressing enter. We got two GS which I settled.

After Drama I researched Civil Service. And after 13 times of pressing enter...

Meanwhile we had finished National Epic and were on our way to the Globe. I revolted to Bureaucracy and Caste System.

Time for

moments. On the very turn I revolted to Caste System we got a slave revolt at Cuzco, one of the most annoying events. Moreover we were 1 turn from finishing the Globe. The game says that the revolt may continue. The correct descriptiomn would have been "It will continue" though. I thought that it would be terribly clever to save us the crackdown and the lost two pop as I figured that we won't have a slave revolt any more next turn as we will be running Caste System then. Well, so much for my thinking. I saw this picture the two following turns:

I then cracked down on those idiots.

The city's setup at the end of my set. As we have Globe now we can grow, so all is set for growth. No hammers invested yet in the Parthenon (due to the silly revolt). With max. production we could get it in 9 turns.

The AI built the ToA, and one founded Christianity.

We shouldn't actually finish the parthenon as it'll give us more GA pollution than we can handle. Is there nothing else better to build? Like barracks?

In OCC we'll have GPP polution sooner or later, and Parth is a very nice GP booster ,especially considering that we don't have a Phi civ. IMHO we should finish it.

On another note, next tech moves?... should we trail to lib ASAP or grab Optics first?

And Immy, I want my save with extra cheese and little onion, please.... :lol:

The problem with finishing the parthenon is that it will change 100% --> 150% and only through chemistry (which we will get fairly early for frigates). The pollution will stick around for the rest of the game. How many extra GP will we get from the parthenon through chemistry? I think it'll be at most 2.

I can't count the exact number of GP sources that we have right now but excluding specialists, I think we're at 2/10 or 2/11 GA:total GP. So adding another GA source will contribute roughly 5% (which should gradually diminish over time as we get more GP sources).

The parthenon slightly increases the risk of a GA over the long-run but provides us with better return up front. As to whether that is worth it or not is up to the team but I don't think it is. Better to use it as a hammer:gold converter than completing it.

Also, we can swap to pacifism after philosophy instead of OR to further boost our GP production. Optics to force the AI in to war mode may be a good idea. It'll slow down their growth rate.

Ill vote for not finishing the parth. Shyuhe has a point about us getting to chemistry fairly quickly. I recently played an offline OCC, highlands,monarch, raging barbs game where i didnt get a scientist till 1500AD. I did my standard Lib-->Biology sling and had 8 forest in the BFC. I was running scientist from writing to 1500AD...most of the times it was between 7-15 scientist. The amount of artist, spy's, and engineers I got were rediculous.

I personally don't have much taste for Parthenon ... only 50%? A world wonder? comeon, even a national wonder gives 100%. (albeit one is local and the other global, which is moot in an OCC). For that matter, a simple leader trait or civic change gives 100%.

Tech path wise I think compass now for health (now that we have globe, we need the health to grow), paper/Education for universities, then go for machinery/compass for caravels. Liberalism can wait a bit. Aim is for Astronomy or higher as free tech.

Lurker's question:
With the Moai Statues built, you're now at three of a maximum of five National Wonders. I'm assuming that Oxford University and Ironworks will complete the quintet.

However, I'm wondering (no pun intended) why you chose Moai over a future National Park -- with the limited number of health resources available, and no possibility to trade or capture any, the lack of a National Park would seriously restrict the growth of the city and the number of specialists that could be hired.

Is that worth the (at most) 10 extra hammers from the sea tiles, which probably can't all be worked until the Recycling Center becomes available very late in the game? Or am I missing something here?

I think they are going to skip Ironworks b/c they may not have coal and +2 unhealthy is one less scientist, while NP would allow them to have maybe 4 more pop and 4 free specialists.

Hmm ... did we have team consensus on Moai Statues? For a moment I though that was the joke, but the screenshot seems very real. As I have mentioned, I would rather people play a few turns more or less than to stop at so-called good numbers. In this case, stopping at turn 199 might be a good idea. No big deal though, the extra 4 hammers would sure come in handy.

Came in handy to add one more health. Now we just need one more on the grassland :worship:

I think the reverend hit the point -- with Moai in, our remainig two nat wonders would probably be Oxford and Nat Park,

Indeed. It's a pity that we'll be skipping IW but we need the NP to take care of our health issues. The base hammers that we ultimately gain from the Moai may offset the IW bonus (of only 50%) once we grow to max size.

Also, I can't tell from the log and screenshot but is the parthenon still unclaimed? If so, I think that may give us an idea of our opposition leaders.

Why did we build Moai? Was i absent from that team meeting? Yea those 4 extra hammers sure do beat Ironworks and totally much better than the 4 extra engineers from Natl Park. So are we now skipping Ironworks and going for natl park or vice versa?
