Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are highly creative alternatives to censored words encouraged (as opposed to just not using the word)?

Can people be infracted for being deliberately obtuse and asking the same questions over and over and over and over in FAQ threads???

Because it's definitely spam, and arguably trolling as well.

I suggest that this thread be recycled as the spam thread it has become and we can all watch our pc drop in a big way.
But then where can I ask questions with out making threads,
Many of your questions would be easily answered via a simple PM to a moderator.
But moderators sometimes dont check their PMs
But most of us do. I do, at least every couple days (I haven't seen an FAQ question here that requires a more urgent response), so if nothing else just send them to me.

If you quote someone who uses a large image in their post and you want to quote the whole post is it ok to snip the image if you mention you do so.

aimee, these last two questions are examples of questions that could easily be answered via a PM to ID (who has said he would answer your questions, as would I or many other mod) rather than using this thread. :)

If I have a screenshot of a 3d program, and then add special effects to it via Gimp, and I want advice on how to improve the special effects, or simply ask if the special effects resemble those of a top-notch Hollywood movie, where do I post it?

Hmm, this is a tricky question since I'd personally ask in the A&E forums.

Well, I figured that, but I'm unsure as to whether post a new thread or simply post in the drawing thread?

If it's trolling (needlessly antagonistic, looking to provoke a negative reaction, etc.), then yes. If it's just a crap argument, then no.

Are straw man arguments in any way penalized? It seems like this type of logical fallacy quickly leads into a degeneration of "civilized" discussion towards the direction of flaming/rude comments in most OT threads.

You can't outlaw poor arguments.

That would outlaw 99% of OT!

You say that like it's a bad thing.

On the question, you really can't outlaw particular versions of bad arguments or logical flaws, because people won't agree on whether a given example is an example of one. Often there is no correct answer.

"Group Admin" was Myself and .Shane.

We were in effect, mini-moderators. For that group only. It was a login with everything else restricted, but social group powers. We were to moderate that social group were it to get to PDMA or Troll/Flamey.

Why wouldn't one admin suffice?

Why is there more than one moderator of OT?

Because OT is a big place with lots of posts and lots of threads.

They didn't know how people would react to the opening of the group and judged that having two moderators would be suitable to cover any problems that might arise.
