Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I agree, but it was in the same vein as the thread a while ago about putting more buttons on the simple reply box thing (and the advanced one as well).

It would also be useful if we can use the entire url for the youtube video.

Unless your careful, that is also a little tricky for some people I think. Because a lot of youtube videos will have extended stuff tacked on at the end of the URL. Stuff that has to do with playlists, related videos and such, "&feature=related".

Well, the smilies button was because it opens the entire smilies menu. Much harder to remember all the smilies than a simple

Say I bookmark a thread and don't come back to it for a long time.

1) Is there a way to figure out which page it is on as if I were browsing the forum section itself?

2) How old is too old for a thread bump? I can see trivial threads as annoying if they were bumped. But what about mediocre thread topics?

Depends on the context. If the bump is just for the sake of bumping, with no new content, and the thread wasn't something waiting on a conclusion then it's likely to be a problem. If it generates good discussion then likely not a problem. Though it's also good to take a peek and see if there is a new thread on the topic or a related one.

What are the specifics regarding questionable language on the forum? If the forum is 13 and over, is PG-13 language all right to use or is more strict?

If it's censored, best to edit it. Trying to get around the filter will earn you infractions as well. If it's not censored, you're probably okay, but what's okay in one part of the world may not be okay in others, and be acted on.... As always, if you're unsure, PM a mod.

How much is warning worth? Do they count against you like points from an infraction?

Not necessarily. If we see a trend, we may infract harsher.

I have a couple of questions about this actually.

First of all, why are warnings not reviewable then?

Second of all, the way I read the new rules, you just aren't allowed to appeal a warning to a supermod, but you can still seek clarification on the reason for the warning with the mod who gave it to you. Is this correct?

That's always correct.

First of all, why are warnings not reviewable then?

Because they are just that, warnings (for the record, reversed infractions also still show up on your record and, like warnings, are still taken into account if relevant) If you are infracted in the future for the same thing you were warned for, you can have that appealed if you'd like. We also don't have the time to appeal warnings that aren't worth any points anyway. We have to draw the line somewhere.

What about off-the-record warnings?

If you can't appeal official warnings, why would you be able to appeal off-the-record warnings?

And how exactly would you appeal an off-the-record warning in the first place? Such a warning appears nowhere in the infraction list, is not tracked in any way, and effectively only exists as a written comment from a mod to a member. How would one go about reversing a comment?
