Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does having consecutive posts merged make "CFC a less pleasant place to post at"? Your view is that multiple sequential posts by the same poster makes the forum easier to read. Ours is that it makes is harder to read.

OK, so there's a difference of opinion. Perhaps a conversation about what a variety of people feel about it is called for?

To paraphrase an occasional military response to that sort of question, "We debate democracy here, we don't practice it." :salute:

I always rather liked Max Berry's NationStates FAQ response dealing with such things...

It's free speech, so I can post whatever I like here, right?

Ahahahaha! Hahaha! Free speech! No, it's not. I run this web site, see, so you have to play by my rules. It's like my own Father Knows Best state.

Granted, not exactly about HOW it's being quoted as opposed to content, but it works.

I'm well aware of that. But that does not mean that the leaders, group thinking in isolation, have the best plan.

Given that this has been debated many times and the result is normally split amongst those that want multiple posts allowed for readability (and postcount) and those that want them disallowed for readability, we make a decision.

Example: Off-Topic created 18th?
Code:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18

I sent a PM to someone. They didn't reply yet so I went to sent a follow-up to say something else. I went to the outbox and replied. It appeared in my inbox. Is it supposed to?

You "quick replied" to yourself.

Question: Suppose someone posts up a thread for debate and everyone agrees the same thing, thus making the thread sort of pointless. Would it just be closed?

I wouldn't think so, because I figure that threads are supposed to be informative. And even if everybody agrees, I would think that people could still post interesting information of some sort.

That's a long way from " being gentle" . I was hoping for something more along the lines of " press this button , then that button and heh presto ! Very cool picture of me rockin' at Metallica concert appears "

However , I will dutifully research this uploading to internet concept as suggested.
