Frequently Asked Questions

how come my great general counter reads 150/30? I got one great commander, which seems to be the FFH equivalent, did i just get him as a regular great person (was a long time ago, dont remember what buildings i had at the time)?

Yeah, you got him as a regular great person. The great general counter is not applied in FFH.

right, something like 2% pop then since i was running a bunch of scientists + all the adventurer points.

another one :p
is there something drastically different about siege weapons? i attacked a city with my catapults at 80% odds. 2 out of 3 cats survived, but their health bars read 0.9/1 and 0.6/0. WTH, does that mean permanent damage? Or is there just some confusion here with the different attack/defence strenghts?
Furthermore, i attacked another city with those same cats, without healing in the meantime, just wanted to see the odds for fun. They were something like 1.5 vs 20, but still 80% to withdraw?? and i won again??

No matter what their strengths, they will always have an 80% withdraw, and they cannot kill a unit. The difference with attacking with an injured catapult is that they will not do much damage before they withdraw.

They don't suffer perm damage, it must just be their attack and defense values.

If you're playing on a high graphics setting you can drag the model out of the way with your mouse :)

HA! thanks!

That will help a lot!!

Might be the wrong thread for a bug report like this, but I had the same problem.

I believe it's a Vista issue, all of the installers (Fall Further as well) want to go to /Mods, and changing it to where it *should* be, doesn't seem to work all the way.

The way I fixed it, is to make a Mods folder in your C: drive (should be something like C:\Mods), put your clean install of FFH into it, run the patcher, and have it install to there. After you do the install, you can move the FFH folder back to it's regular home, and everything will be fine.

Yes, that worked (I run Vista). Thanks! I reported it in the Bug thread for 40r but had not seen any action on it. I figured it was a commonly known issue that I wasn't aware of.
Thanks again. :goodjob: BTW, in my problem, the Readme must have been right and the patch not updating. Because the blood splatter was not present until I did this workaround.

good day to everyone loving this wonderful mod

i have a strange question, strange because i have not been able to find any post about or report or suggestion on the web, so i'm afraid is a problem related to some mistake of mine

in the scenario menu i see that most of scenarios are locked, requiring you to complete the previous ones before to access them

i played and i finished three of 'free' scenarios, but the locked ones still remained locked

i also tried using cheats (entering the scenario editor, adding some dragons and quickly winning again), but nothing changed

i don't know what i have to do in order to play locked scenarios. there is someone with good suggestion?

thanks a lot

How do the holy/poison/etc combat modifiers work? For example, i have angels running around with strength is "6 (+1 holy)". Does this simply mean strength 7 or is there anything more complicated to it? If so, why not just show 7?

It does show 7 most of the time.
But it's important to know what elemental damage type your unit is doing because your enemies might have a resistance to that damage type or a weakness. Which modifies it.

For example, if a unit has +2 Fire strength, and the opponent has 50% fire weakness, that turns into +3 Fire Strength.

They are strength 7, but the holy damage is a different damage type. Certain units are resistant or susceptable to different damage types.

So how exactly am i supposed to kill the Loki? The manual says he will flee, unless completely surrounded. Apparently i dont quite understand what "surrounded" means.

no firststrikers available and i was far from home - this is all conquered territory.
anyway, eventually i pounded him till i was blue in the face and he jumped into one of his own cities, one i happened to be sieging. he cant flee as (the last?) city defender.

Finished my very first FFH game with a win, yay (and everyone said it cannot be done :) ). meager prince level, but a win nonetheless.
I think the land domination threshold is WAY too high. It makes sense for BtS maps, but in Erebus maps 20+% of the land is covered with peaks and unclaimable. My two opponents had 3 cities left each and i had to claim almost every passable tile to reach the limit.
Whats the rationale for the domination population limit getting lower as the game goes on?

What is the impact on a game if the Infernals are destroyed? I intuitively thought that, if the forces for light, goodness, and puppies bonded together to remove the demonic plague from the Earth, there would be a sizable impact: some retraction of Hell terrain, a precipitous drop in the AC, something.

The AC should go down as you raze their cities. You will also have stopped the "source" of Hell terrain, but it can still expand from previous squares. If you were to sanctify all of them, then you would have removed it from the world (barring an event.)

New game, new questions :p

So I (foolishly?) built all 3 of my Kuriosate cities inland. Does this mean that i cant build any kind of boat, ever? I got the feeling from the forum, that the settlements have some sort of building capacity, but i dont have a single thing buildable, so i guess not then. Or do i just not have some necessary prerequisites?

I assume any cities i conquer will turn into settlements as well? Does it make sense tactically to build settlements far away from home just to claim low-end resources like deer or wine? what about metals and mana?

Bannor is right next to me and we are quite chummy (+10 or so). I am empyrean, he is FoL, even though he didnt found it. I spread empyrean to all his cities, but he still wont convert, says he doesnt like me enough, even though he likes me enough for a defensive pact. Does he have a built-in (dis)like of empyrean/FoL or why wont he convert? Having it spread everywhere and relations at friendly was definitely enough in BtS.

The Kuriotes have an airship to address this very problem.

Yes, if you have met your imit, captured cities will become settlements.

Depending on your economy and civic choices, far flung settlements may or may not be advantageous. I normally go for them, but it is a playstyle choice. Especially with the extra benefits for resources from their buildings, it is often worth it.

You are experiencing the 'joys' of the Kuiriotates! :) I actually do like them.

Before airships came out, Kurios had a real problem which you may have seen; build one city on the coast to be able to roam the seas, make invasions, etc, but then it will have much less production or commerce than a fully build sprawling inland city.

As jwin said, the availability of airships has changed this somewhat, so now you can build all three cities inland, get the maximum benefit from sprawling, and make them powerhouses; the airships allow you to fight overseas. However, you still can't use seas resources which can be very useful for health for those big cities, so you still need to decide if it is worth having a coastal city. It will also allow you to build ships before airships are avialable, which is very late in the game.

The 'right' way to play is probably based on circumstance. Are all of your opponents connected (Pangaea, lakes, etc.)? Do you have a spot for a good coastal city that will allow you to get all three water resources, trade bonuses, etc.? If you do settle a sprawling city on the coast, I would make building the Heron Throne a priority.

I view settlements as mostly there to get resources. They can also be valueable by having priests create temples or being additional cities for a shrine to get additional income or research. Captured cities do become settlements (once you have built your maximum), but the settlement keeps the surviving buildings, including wonders, I think.
