Friendly, fun, noob to moderate level game!

I didn't know what to do and didn't take a full compliment of turns. We got beat to both wonders (Chichen and Sistine). We did get a great artist which I saved. Egypt demanded Theology which I refused and Japan wanted us to cancel our deals with Egypt which I refused. :crazyeye:

That's bad news.... I had already tried chopping as much as possible without affecting forest in the Big Fat Cross, but still got beaten to it. :(

Nevermind, with our forges in place, we would have better luck getting the next wonders.

Now, to get the Great Prophet, we have no choice but to turn some citizen to priest specialist.

Paris begins: Courthouse
Hmm, that is a bit :smoke:, Paris being the capital has no use for the Courthouse....

Are handing over or going to bring your tally to 10 rounds? If handing over, hmmn, ahhh, the save?

Actually, if you go into the city screen, it says City Maintenance -2. I assume if we build a Courthouse, we could reduce that. But, then again, I could be wrong.

Um, yes, of course. That's why I said, "I didn't know what to do and didn't take a full compliment of turns." and posted the save. ;)

You are not wrong, it is correct that Courthouse gives City Maintenance -2 to the city with the courthouse. However, since Paris is the capital, it does not have city maintenance, so courthouse is useless in the capital. (Note: Civ4 no longer has building maintenance, the only maintenance associated with cities is the distance upkeep measured from the capital).

Now I am confused ... but there is no save in your post :crazyeye:

Indeed - who is up AND WHERE IS THE SAVE! :D

It is my understanding that there is city maintenance also due to number of cities. No city is immune to this maintenance cost. However, does courthouse only take care of maintenance due to distance? If this is so, I am sorry.

However, if that is so, then Firaxis should have been kind enough to not have courthouse selectable in the capital. :crazyeye:

I'm am sorry about the save. I am sure I attached it. Since I have dial-up, perhaps there was some snafu with the attachment.

You guys are more than welcome to go two rounds. If you see I'm not around to grab the save, go for it. I'm sorry to cause you so many problems and to wait so long.

Roster ...
1) Colonel Kraken ...[ticked off at Firaxis . . .]
2) ruff_hi ..............[waiting . . . ]
3) GreyFox ............[waiting . . . ]

I saw that you modified the first post - v funny. Ok, guess that I am up. I will try to knock my 10 off by tomorrow but ...

Spoiler :
I was going to say "WHERE IS THE SAVE" again, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Kraken - don't sweat it.

Hmm... maybe you are correct afterall :p ... According to the mannual p141,
Civ4-Mannual said:
Your capital city starts out with a maintenance cost of 0, but as you found more cities they will begin costing your civilisation gold. Maintenance cost arise from two different sources: the distance of the city from the capital and the total number of cities in your civilisation.

Best way to verify is to use the World builder, set up a few cities, check the financial screen before and after putting a courthouse in the capital.

I think we need to start thinking of a victory condition and aim for it. War is difficult, mainly because we are weak and we have left it a bit late - anyone got any suggestions? I'm thinking cultural.
screenshot0057lb.jpg

Got it.

Glad that finally we have a head, it really helps our economy.

Hmm... victory condition:

cultural: Our top 3 cities: Paris - 2643@42cpt, CopperTown - 1272@18cpt, Tartar - 524/10cpt ..... not very encouraging
If we are pursuing this, we need to start building some cultural enhancing improvements/wonders in Tartar.

Conquest/Domination: We are at 2nd last, Peter is way below us. Not much of a chance there, I say.

Diplomatic: Heh, nobody is pleased with us. But it is a likely candidate if we can get people to convert to our faith.

Space Race: A good chance, considering we are at 2nd place in GNP ... but space victory is turned off :wow:

Hehe, I think the best odds is timed victory... hahahaha (we are #1 at the moment!) :rotfl:

more important to look for 3 commerce cities and build them towards culture then turn the culture setting to 100% (if you want to take the culture route)

Iron Town begins: Theatre
Uzbek begins: Theatre
Judaism has spread: Moscow (Russian Empire)

I did not play my full set, decided to stop at a good year, we need to discuss how to proceed.

After Turns Notes

- I think we could continue to spread Judaism to further our coffers, and also to spy on othen ations. Continue to hit Peter with them.
I have also send one missionary east to hit on Hatty, but haven't quite reach her.

- I think we could afford 1 or 2 more cities. Possible site are:
FFNoob6-possible-city2.jpg

notice the vast space between our 3 cities. One more city could go there.
It also builds up pressure on Peter.

FFNoob6-possible-city1.jpg

Here we could go for the bananas.
French's cultural push is definitely stronger than the Japs, so we will win in a cultural border contest.
Once jungle is cleared, we can get the city up for a cottage spam.

- I have also began clearing jungles from our north most town.

- The trading of world maps gave us the entire globe view. The AIs love doing exploration!
Our hemisphere:

The save: (colonel is UP)

If we are going for cultural win, the possible choices are:
(a) based on culture: Paris, Copper Town, Iron Town
(b) basedon commerce: Paris, Iron Town, Samatian
There are 2 Great Artists in Paris for use. Once we decide to go this route, the three cities will build nthing but culture buildings, the remaining cities have to build armies to supplement our military. Can't have Tonku or JC come snatching our 40000 culture city from under our nose, can we?
We also need to change to caste system

Although we are almost last in power, a domination victory is also possible. To do that, we have got to start beeffing up our military, insitigate some wars, while we get along with teh free ride, nabbing ourselves some cities along the way.

I was doing that to get another religion going so we could get another monestory (+50% culture) in each of the big three. We just need to check who we will be giving the money too.

I have been working on Peter (good tech and resource trades) so I am glad that we got OB with him. Have you noticed how Japan is spread out - if we can get a three way war going with him (us, Egypt and Rome), he will not be long for this world.

I agree about building up our soldiers.

Ah, I see. ... sorry, was veto by me
Hinduism is Hatty.

Hmmm ... a war against Tonku is doable, I think. He has a couple of nearby cities we could grab. Tonku however share the same faith with JC, so might be hard to get Rome in for the ride. But if we can get Hatty to do war, it is possible though. She would absorb most of tommy's hammers, while we just grab the cities near our border (perhaps even Edo).

I said you guys could take two rounds and I meant it. I'm not really going to be around anyway. It's fun watching how you guys play. I'm learning some stuff. :)
