So, I was playing the Final Frontier Mod. In this, the Construction Ships can build Starbases so you can control territory far away from the star systems that contain resources.

My Destroyer was out exploring, and it finished a turn next to a Construction ship owned by the Forge, which, unbenownst to me, was building a Starbase, and finished it the next turn, leaving my Destroyer on the adjacent tile- and strangely, not kicking it out even though I don't have Open Borders with the Forge, and they refuse to sign Open Borders. Thus, if I try to move it at all (even to outside the borders of the Starbase), I get this:

What, no "Plus" on the end of that? How quaintly old fashioned (not to mention all the bugs)...

I have had this happen like this several times. It also happens when using maps that have wormholes - the AI like to build starbases to cover them so when you pop out the other end you are sometimes inside their territory.

I am not sure what is going on with it, but from time to time it will boot you out of their territory.

The territory claim that is done by starbases is purely artificial - no culture (or influence, as it is called in FF) is involved. I suspect it is not booting out other people's stuff since the territory is claimed via looping over the plots and calling their "setOwnerNoUnitCheck" functions. It might boot the units off the plot if it used the plain "setOwner", but that may have issues of its own.

Given the thread this is in, its a pity that none of that stuff I just typed in was funny...

Think I posted this years ago, but just rediscovered it. Still makes me titter; was Justinian really expecting me to go for this?

I'm sure most others have seen something like this happen before, but speaking of Justinian, this gave me a real laugh:

I don't think I ever saw not-multiple-of-10 sums from AIs :crazyeye:. Those deals are usually well worth taking as the AI is about a turn away anyway and you get as much gold as there is to be gained (unless he's offering his max available gold, then it isn't necessarily a good deal).

The vedic aryans sought to destroy civilization. If you were unlucky they could have done the same to you. Turn events off!

No event, actually. Not even on Raging Barbs either. I had a lot of trouble with barb archers myself being a little too isolated, so perhaps the same happened to Justin?

Justinian was busy defending his other cities and not the potentially powerful earliest HC in the game?

...

Dangit, AI! How can you be so stupid?
