[GS] Future Update?

I still think Xcom enemy unknown is much more fun than part 2. If only the maps would be more random. I`ve enjoyed this game a lot with the right mods.
Could just not get into xcom 2 when the long war mod stopped support for a big overhaul. But i really should pick it up again. Xcom2 was very buggy at the time.
Units not being able to get teleported out of the zone at times. Destroying my ironman saves due to bugs.

I didn't enjoy Xcom 2 so much because of the timer on 90% of the levels. I get the reason, I get why people like it, but I just don't. I like my slowverwatch : P

There's an option in the settings which doubles it. I play at Commander difficulty but with both mission and campaign length increased, and that's just the right balance of difficulty for me.

So.. they just released a "Platinum Edition" on Steam, which is just the game with all the DLC so far. Could that simply be all that they've been doing?

No. The Platinum Edition has been out since the fall and has nothing to do with the new DLC.

i’m with Eagle Pursuit. It should not have taken much effort to bundel it all up together and call it X. It is marketing PR and should not hinder those working on new content that much.if any at all.

like Anthsou i’ve doubled the times at the first opportunity. I’m all for extra challenging gameplay. But this just does not feel fun to compete against the clock. I do like the timed meld missions on the first xcom occasionally. But not on xcom2.

But they didn't really do anything. The Platinum Edition has been out for months.

They just changed the way the Platinum Edition was presented in the store. The Platinum Edition was there long before Runner existed. They don't involve each other.

They changed it so you can buy the platinum edition when you already have some of the content of the bundle, without paying again for the stuff you already own. If you own everything but GS, for example, you can buy GS with the platinum edition price. Before, you would be forced to buy the stuff you don't own separately, which is more expensive, or remove the stuff you own from steam to buy the platinum edition, paying again for content you already owned.

A lot of people complained about how it worked before, with reason, so they changed it as a response to feedback.

Yes I am aware.

The wording of the post I quoted made it seem like the poster was not aware it has been out for a while: "...bundle it all together and call it X."

Main reason I never finished, plus I just didn't like the "flow" of the game. But I'm guessing that option is new? It wasn't there in the beginning, maybe I'll give the game another go. But otherwise I feel like the 1st one is far superior. It has a similar flow to the original, or as close as you are going to get with all the changes.

Back on topic somewhat. I'm glad a game like civ6 doesn't have those kind of turn limits. Well, we kind of do with golden eras. But honestly those aren't that big a deal to me if I don't make it. I certainly would not want to see more time limits in a game like civ6. At least not outside of a scenario.

Iron man X-com2 at one level below max is the best experience I had. I did mod it extensively UX wise + some map mods and I added only one single mod that provides an advantage 'cooldown instead of charge' as I felt he got some class out of misery especially for long missions. Turn-timer makes the game just the right amount of stress. Without it the game turns as a boring snipe fest very fast. Now you take risk , finish a few mission heartbroken because of the loss of this magnificient beast star of your squad being shot. And you move on, make due. At the end of the game , you feel it was really a unique adventure , different from the previous run. Ok I hyped myself enough to relaunch the game :)

A few years ago, Firaxis required that the game "Pre-Civilization: Egypt" changed its name to "Predynastic Egypt." Maybe it is really too similar, and some people might confuse it with an official civ game. On the other hand, it might indicate that a Pre-Civilization spin-off was once thought of. Maybe it is what's in the making and should have been presented on the canceled E3? I certainly hope for it, as I'm personally not interested at all in a third expansion. A spin-off, however...

Doubt it.

Also, can you expand on why you hope for such a game, in regards to mechanics, etc? It sounds terribly limiting and something that could fit as a scenario in Civ VI, not a spin off.

Though I still hope that maybe some day they can model a truly nomadic civ. Though I'm not sure how that would look. They would have to have some kind of bonuses like the Maori get before they settle their first city. But I'm not a big fan of giving something for nothing. The player would have to move groups around to harvest the land and acquire resources. Tech would have to come from other civilizations (the technology would diffuse to the nomadic civ). Of course you run into the problem that nomadic civs (an oxymoron I suppose) never remained that way. Or those ethnic groups that are nomadic today are very behind the times by our standards.

I think your first suggestion is correct. Firaxis probably just didn't like the idea of someone else using the word 'Civilization' in a strategy game in case it was associated with them.

I'd love a land-based nomadic Civ. When I heard about Civ V G&K introducing the Huns I hoped they'd function as a nomadic horde that could move around with the ability to construct units but not buildings, and could only capture cities, not build them.

There already was on Reddit suggestion to add Huns into Civ 6 as 'play as Barbarians' civ similar to venice being 'play as city-state' kind of.
