G-Minor 183

It depends on the situation obviously, but at Deity you can stay cash positive (or almost) simply through tech & resource trading.

If an extra city gives you an extra tradable resource, it will probably pay for itself, and generate at least 1 Great Artist.

Also, in the late game when you usually get more religions, these cities can be very useful for building enough temples so your legendary cities do not need to build the temple, but can go straight for the Cathedral.

My one (and probably only) run is going well. I got DeGaulle next to me on an inland sea. I have a dry corn, double gem. I captured 5 workers in no time, so I even murdered one! Yes, I've done that before and no, no one else probably does.

He still managed to get out about 5 cities (for me. thanks), so I'm at 8 with a settler for a nice 9th city.
I wiped him out with a ton of chariots.

I have secured stone and marble. There are a couple copper around here somewhere.

It is about 1400 BC.

I have 4 religions already.

Post #1 never said anything other then 31 days and we were asked if we wanted two update G minors and no one objected, so I'd say everyone was already adequately informed of the longer duration. No apology necessary, but thanks for the reminder.

My apologies for not emphasizing this earlier, but this G-Minor is running for 31 days, double the usual time frame to allow for greater participation!

Thx, I know we talked about double time 'some day' but I didn't realize it is upon us.

My apologies to everyone that doesn't look at every setting of a gauntlet, such as date in this case. Especially given WastinTime's response on this topic, shulec's reminder of the extra long date range was well warranted.

Submitted my game. It won't be competitive but at least I beat the current #1 date... by 4 turns!

Don't really know what to think of my strategy... Peaceful expansion to 6 cities, Lib at 100 AD, 3 religions and 3 Cathedrals in all Leg cities... Missed the Music GA and I had to burn a GA on a Golden Age but that would have allowed me to shave a 2/3 turns max. Good diplo helped me to stay alive.

I think war expansion should be a lot stronger...

But hey, a first Deity submission!

EDIT: interesting, jesusin's #1 1250 AD slot on Tiny/Deity has a Lib date at 490 AD
That probably means I was too slow in getting my Cathedrals up, or he had more religions?

In my game that is temporarily holding first in this gauntlet, i libbed in 415ad and got my third religion in 475ad.

My first attempt at this only beat the current HoF #1 by a single turn, but i improved on that by a reasonable margin.

Liberalism by 100 AD is really good for a Cultural Victory, even for epic speed.

Jesusin probably had higher base culture and earlier Cathedrals.

Academy boosts your overall tech rate by about 20%, and produces 4 culture of course. This culture doubles after 1000 years, and with all the miltipliers at the end, should be worth 32-40 cpt.

This will produce more culture than a bomb, make you get techs earlier which can be game changing in terms of trades.

For some strange reason, I don't think the Academy doubles after 1000 years. At least that's how it was back in the day. Shrines also don't double IIRC.

Still, yea, I usually build the Academy...assuming, you have the typical HoF super-capital.

There's that too, I'm playing a game where the cap BFC has a Gold tile but very little river-side tiles so I was thinking to pass on the Academy.

But that makes me an early GS that sits around until I can bulb something useful (Philo?)...

Philo is often a waste in this case. On Deity, you can get them to spread religions to you quite easily so you don't need to found Tao. If you manage Mansa correctly (i.e. give him CoL...especially if you see him pop a GS). He will get Philo for you and you can get it free in trade. If your capital doesn't have gold/gems and/or cottages, then save the GS for bulbing Education.

Maybe if you get a 2nd GS, then it's OK to use one on Philo. Mansa doesn't always cooperate.

If you are going to bulb 2GS then the Academy is redundant.
I usually burn a Gx on a Golden Age when I'm going to have 3 turns of anarchy in a single stroke.
Academy culture doesn't get doubled after 1000 years.

I sometimes have a problem with that. The more zealous AI (generally Asoka) sends 1 missionary to one and each of my cities. The other AI lose interest in sending me their religions, as missionaries always have new AI cities with zero religions to aim at.

It can be a gamble sometimes. This is just another reason why a small war is always a good thing even for a culture game. In my report above (which I have not been able to continue play yet since.) I have all 4 early religions by 1400 BC. I have almost 10 cities. It should be a record breaking game.
