I like the ebb and flow system.

I also like ~100 year turns, but if the updates are going to be "split up" why do it arbitrarily. Instead, I'd do it by some "turning point events" and not nessacerily limit it to 4 maps or 4 parts

Example: 1900's Update

1800s update just ended at the declaration of WWI, having started at the Congress of Vienna. Before that, they update had been from the Death of the Louis the Sun King to the beginning of the Congress. We can assume some die hard crazy player ordered Napoleaon escape and led another army to reconquer Europe, and Bird struck that down at Waterloo. The Congress had been done by the players, and the update had gone well. This update would go from WWI to 9/11.

Update "1"To the end of WW1 (map)
Update "2"To the start of WW2 (map)
Update "3"To the end of ww2 (map)
Update "4"to the fall of the Soviet Union. (map)
Update "5" to 9/11 (map)

Diplomacy would then be conducted and then the next turn would start.

It doesn't always have to be 4 maps, and always end in 00. I think that aura of world changing events is better. Having ages be determined by events.

Also, if people have different year systems, would you list them all, or just have a base "Future Time Units" and have a conversion chart for other culture's time units.

Bird, i don't think many see the lack of progression though history as a problem.

I like to be able to focus on year by year events - heck i'd even go as far as seasonal if possible.

I'd be sure to play in any NES you were involved in, but as usual i don't follow your concerns ;)
And as usual you're in the minority;) I think most people in a fresh start wish that they would all actually go somewhere. Personally, I think LINESII in the equivalent of our modern era would be mucho fun

Its high time someone kicked off a cradle again..

Even better. I like the variable length idea. I think that a single 100 year update is both boring and hard to write. For me, and I think, a better player experience, an update needs lots of detail. That detail or at least the basis for it needs to come from the players. By breaking down a 100 year turn into smaller segments player details become more meaningful and useable. In BirdNES I needed to break the 5 year turns down to annual pieces, just so I could write an update and have it make sense. With 100 year turns that will be even more important. By making sure that players put their actions in a time context (some year) the uncertainty of outcomes is increased.

Glad to be of service:)

Yes, but not too quickly.

I like the variable length idea.

Likewise, if you could manage it ofcourse.

I'm pretty sure that was SwissEmpire's inspiration here.

I'm also pretty sure that, despite Swiss' claim that most people would prefer going fast, the only other people to speak to the issue have gone more or less the other way, in varying degrees.
