GameInformer article

I agree that a late science boost would be meaningless. By the time one is building spaceship parts or the utopian project (or esp. finishing up the last policies), science has been drastically reduced in favor of gold.

I have a feeling the HST will fit in with some other aspect of the game we do not know about yet. It does not make sense to give it a science boost. Maybe a late game happiness boost? The HST's primary imapct has been in the field of public relations.

It seems improbable that the HST would have an effect that doesn't do anything for science, but having a late game science boost doesn't seem very useful.

I believe there are legions of astronomers and physicists who would disagree with you there. The HST has had a huge impact on science.

Yes of course, but we are discussing its benefit to the late game in CiV. I was not speaking literally about its real life use, just how it could be worked into whats needed in game. Your funny AriochIV, that's a good joke! A science boost will probably not be needed in the late game. So the other options are happiness (PR), a culture boost (unlikely), or some other unseen reason, we do not know yet.

"I believe there are legions of astronomers and physicists who would disagree with you there. The HST has had a huge impact on science." DUH!!! God what a laugh that is, bringing tears to my eyes!

Hey AriochIV I am just being smart, don't take it personally. Anyway what do you think the benefit of the HST will be? Do you think a science boost is needed that late in the game?

How about contact with E.T./wormhole, thus gaining production bonus when building spaceship parts/special research and weaponry?? Haha

That also looks like a new naval unit... first look at Privateer?

I just got my gameinformer last night. In the article they show a screenshot with the gatling gun. Is that a new screenshot? I do not remember seeing it anywhere else. The write up is only one page, but oh well.

I do hope that is the privateer. I've been waiting to finally have one in game.

if they nerf GS like they should, a late game science boost might actually mean something...

The HST will probably be unlocked with the satellite tech, and The best part of satellites is that the whole world is revealed, but you still can't see the actual tiles or the units on them. Espionage is one of the major parts of the expansion, but only has one wonder, the Great Firewall. I think the HST will Give the owner full vision of the map. This would be The opposite of the Great Firewall, Which could block spies from your nation.

The online version of the magazine has the picture cropped a bit different. So unfortunately, while I can zoom in to see more detail, I don't have as much of the picture to zoom in on.

I can see three Purple Cities which belong to Carthage (Utique, Carthage, and Hippo Regius). There are 3 Citrus resources near Carthage, though in all likelihood, at least 1 belongs to Utique. Additionally, the Carthaginians have, what I believe is, a Missionary unit located between Carthage and Hippo Regius. Unfortunately, even with a great deal of zoom I cannot accurately determine their symbol.

Surrounding Utique are 2 Red on Black units, a Rifleman and the old-school Tank that looks like all Treads. I am uncertain what Utique is building, but it could quite possibly be an Inquisitor based on what little of the picture I can see. Not sure what Hippo Regius is building, but it is currently slated at 42 turns and the picture is too muddy to tell for certain. That is about all I can tell you at this point.

You said "The HST's primary imapct has been in the field of public relations. ", which was obviously NOT linked to the game. He thinks primary impact has been in science department. No offense, but your sentence on that point had nothing to do with the game.

That's why he answered that, he disagreed with that opinion. ;)

I realize that, but PR impact of the HST cannot be ignored. He is right that it has made big strides in science and astronomy. However, they use that knowledge to gain the public eye. Remember that money funds scientific programs.

"It has always been important for the Space Telescope to capture the public's imagination, given the considerable contribution of taxpayers to its construction and operational costs. After the difficult early years when the faulty mirror severely dented Hubble's reputation with the public, the first servicing mission allowed its rehabilitation as the corrected optics produced numerous remarkable images." It needs PR to operate, so perhaps it should promote happiness, as well as science. Some peopla are saying though, that because it probably will come out so late in the techtree a big science boost really will not be needed. At that point typically you have the science needed already to build the spaceship or whatever.

I like the idea of the Hubble Space telescope being just a big front for an advanced spy satellite. :P

That could be except that it takes pictures of space, and anyone can apply to use it.

So then maybe the effect is 1 gold for every 5 science produced by your civ.

How about 1 gold for every 15 science produced by all civs together?
