News For Each Region

North America
In North America both the HiGrax and The Box sold very well, thanks to frenzy of holiday shopping. Special holiday bundles for The Box appeared, usually coming with a pack in game or a second controller. The Box was flying of the shelves leading up to the holidays, and in the weeks just before Christmas, The Box was nearly impossible to find. While the HiGrax had limited consoles available compared to The Box, it also sold well.

TIRC bought out the collapsing Game Techs company for a small sum. The employees have been reorganized and they are ready for their first project. Zabriskie Entertainment made a similar move to buy out Crooked Lane Studios. Zabriskie planned to move Crooked Lane to Miami, but that relocation hasn't begun yet. Zabriskie did invest into researching ways to improve the graphical capabilities for their games, and for the most part they succeeded.

Nexus Systems released the Box exclusive Cross Country Cruisin’, and it sold well, just breaking 100,000 copies sold by the end of December. It was compared quite often to the similar Formula Racing released by Illusion Development; the general consensus was that Formula Racing was the better game, but Cross Country Cruisin’ sold more copies, mainly because Nexus Systems’ home market had a larger install base.

Mann Entertainment was very busy for the holidays, as the company released two games, though one of them was just a slightly repackaged game. Silent Service: Gold Edition sold decently, mainly to consumers who got their systems over the holidays. Crystal Chronicles received a warm reception though, selling enough to improve profits considerably. Mann Entertainment also funded an employee training program that noticeably improved the overall skill of their employees.

Overall Inc. recently formed, based in Atlanta, Georgia. They announced their first game to be Fighter Stance, a (obviously) fighting game.

Europe
While neither The Box or the HiGrax appeared in large numbers in Europe, the consoles that were on sale sold out quickly. As soon as there were new shipments, the consoles would be cleared off the shelves in a few days. Many were disappointed though, that they weren't able to get a new console. By the end of the holidays sales between The Box and the HiGrax in Europe was nearly a virtual tie.

As Avalon Games began to work on their new game Xanea, they hired a well-known sci-fi writer to write the story for the game. Many gamers are excited about this and they expect that Xanea will have one of the best stories in a game for a while to come.

Illusion Development released Formula Racing to great reviews but only moderate sales, though it did do especially well in Europe. While they haven't turned much of a profit yet, they are expected to do so in the next few months.

Development of TeaTime's own console, The Camelot, is continuing at a steady pace. So far, no problems have been encountered, which is a good sign for the project.

A new game company recently formed in Paris, France named Spire Entertainment. Though not much is known about them they have already announced their first game "Shot From Above", a side scrolling shooter.

Japan
While The Box sold moderately well, it was again dwarfed by the HiGrax in Japan. The HiGrax was completely sold out across the nation. The Box was somewhat boosted by the release of Crystal Chronicles, which sold quite well.

GawShang advertised their game, From Up To Down, enough to have its sales continue at a steady pace throughout the end of the year. The game also started to turn a profit for GawShang.

A Japanese media company created its own video game branch named Massive Games Inc. They announced their first project to be Akio the Ninja, an adventure/platformer.

OOC: Sorry about the delay again. RL got kinda hectic last week. I'll update the stats tomorrow.

Great to see we're up and running again!

Announcing the next big thing from Nexus Systems:

Game Name: 4-BLOX
Game Type: Puzzle
Consoles: The Box, HiGrax
Brief Description:

In this simple yet addictive puzzle game, players rotate falling puzzle pieces in an effort to form solid lines across the playing field. Each completed line reduces the stack and scores points, but the speed gradually increases as you progress! Can you keep up?

4BLOX.png

Full Description:

Gameplay is simple and straight-forward. A random series of blocks drops into the playing field one at a time. The player can rotate the falling piece, move it side-to-side, or cause it to fall faster… but can’t slow it down. Assembling pieces to form a solid line across the field will clear that line and add points to the board. Completing multiple lines as once scores bonus points. Every ten completed lines causes the blocks to fall at a faster rate and increases the score for each cleared line. If your stack piles up to the top of the field, its Game Over! A two-player mode allows two friends to go head to head with a split screen view; each line you complete lowers your stack and forces your opponent’s pile upward. Available for The Box and HiGrax systems summer 1987!

4-BLOX? That sounds so boring. Who'd want to play that? ;) :p

Announcement from Zabriskie Entertainment:

City Stimulation 2 is under way. Our programmers are hard at work building the game.

This game boasts some of the top technology we can afford to acquire/research and this game will push both consoles on the market to the absolute max.

The game will still have some traits seen in the original, but with some major differences,
1; the map will have moving dots that will show cars.
2; blue dots are police. If they are flashing white, they are responding to emergencies.
2; red represent fire/paramedics and like police, if they flash white, they are responding to emergencies.
4; There are many other new aspects that have been added to the game but we will withhold until you buy the game and see for yourself.

Good gaming world. And thank you for staying by our side!

The Chinease Market

"Sir!" yelled a Japanease Reporter who is meeting Chen Shao Liang, "Can you please explain why it would be advised for Kingdom Inc. To expand into China".

She had spoked the last word with a brief shudder. I understand her as I had learned Japanease, being so near it and it's technology, when I was young. I smiled as he remembered the old properganda of the old times. And broke out of his reverie to reply,"It, indeed is pretty simple.

You see, The Red March is a historic Chinease ruling party's properganda, so it would likely to sponser its production. Also, the middling class of China, especially the Economic Zones, are growing rapidly, or indeed they will. So if the Kingdom expand in just SangHai, it would be well worth it.

However, I do understand the cost of expanding to a nation it dislikes." I stared at the reporter, who has a nod of understanding the internationial and local affairs and opinions of the Japanease to China, and probably thinks that we Chinease has the same hatred.

"So we will continue production of Up to Down in Europe, Japan and in the U.S. We will start working on Up to Down: the Comandoes, which is a action games in which you lead tiny but effective squads, and defeat the numerous waves of the Above Section and try to blow the nukes there up to prevent Nukes to be built/used when the radiation dissipates. The story will be in a small Book that comes with a Book: The Nuclear disaster and your actions. It will be a small book based on the games and will tell you more about weapons and history.

Finally, Up to Down: The Common Enemy, will come in time for Christmas. And packs with the HiGrax shall be sold at 30% off if that is ok."

"Did I answer all the questions on your mind?"

The Reporter was astonished that she had asked only a few questions with me. But said, "This is Yen Teshana of Japan Economic News at Da Laing China, back to Yez Natozaka."

4-BLOX? That sounds so boring. Who'd want to play that? ;) :p

Yeah I know. Stacking blocks is for babies, right? :p
.....
ORDERS IN!
.....
As a side note, I find it amusing that for many (most?) of the people around here, the state of the video game industry in 1986 is a matter of historical research, not nostalgic reminiscing. ;)

I still need a price for my game before I can send orders.
