Signed and approved. However we would rather not get into the specifics of individual employees at this time. Please send whoever you think would be appropriate to get the ball rolling. I'm sure the specifics will be worked out in due course by the people on-task.

To confirm, a total of $6000 will be transferred to your accounts by the end of this quarter.

Many thanks for giving us a chance to cooperate. I'm hopeful that our companies can continue to have a beneficial relationship.

Sincerely,
Sven Landerson

@Luckymoose, a couple of things:

q#1: I asked a question about my game Vision of Gaia a few pages back but I guess you didnt see it. Its about how longs its taking - only 3 quarters.

Im glad it will be finished, but I imagined it as being quite a detailed game with tons of factions and locations and units and items and characters etc etc. If you saw my design post, I was trying to hint at that :)

If I can still get all that for 3, then thats great. But I dont want it being considered less of a game than I was planning.

In any case, I want to be able to finish it for christmass, with extra funding if needed :) (so please dont hike it up to 5 )

q#2: Console Development

You say you are expecting this to begin. But I dont see any of us being able to afford the $50,000 anytime soon.

Can we break this down into payments over several turns?

Or what is the deal with the loans etc? Is Metaturtle still around? (I didn't want to get into too much detail straight away, and I have a fear of loans in general, I guess its the same for most other players :) )

1.) Check stats.
2.) You can pay half of 50,000 over the course of two turns to add up to starting it. I am letting Germanicus do this.

Game Name: Brain Pirates: Soul of the Amaru
Game Type: RPG / Strategy / Shoot-em-up
Console(s): Takk
Development Status: -
Description: A game with a twisted and surprising storyline, free-form gameplay, character development, Nano-Ship upgrading, and of course many multiplayer elements. Combining Vector and simple 3D graphics and all kinds of inspired graphical effects provide an original game experience. The action takes place inside the SOUL, the great artificial mind of the gigantic war machine UNGDF Amaru, which has gone haywire. Microscopic machines have a vast game world to explore and fight over. Like pirate ships of the ancient Caribbean, your Nano-Ship will attempt to destroy or capture enemy Nanites, cut off the enemy's supplies of energy and nano-materials, and capture and covert important SOUL-Nodes to your control - with the ultimate aim of brining the whole Amaru under the control of your faction. And after that, control of the world will soon follow... With your character in the deciding role... But there are many mysterious to uncover, and countless battles to be won along the way...

Amaru.jpg

The gigantic war machine GDF Amaru was designed to spearhead the Global Defence Forces. Fusion-powered, bristling with devastating weapons, and the ability to transform into different modes, the Amaru was designed to keep the peace for the next century. However, during its first shake-down run, the Amaru goes haywire. Regaining control is made more difficult by the fact that the Amaru has a crew of zero. It is driven by a revolutionary 'SOUL' device. More than a mere AI, the 'SOUL' is a fully-fledged artificial brain, with capacities well beyond those of average humans. SOUL is supposed to be infallible, but it appears that one or more terrorist organisations have been able to hack into it, and infect it with insidious nano-machines. The world watches in horror as this great instrument of destruction begins to turn on its makers...

SOULdevice.jpg

Players will control Nano-Ships of various factions - the UN, several terrorist groups, new-age religious orders, super-corporations and rogue states are all battling for the Soul of the Amaru. There are also vast hordes of the Amaru's own Nano-Immune System to content with, as well as Nano-Viruses which may begin to rage out of control...

Or perhaps, you will be content to sell your services for money back in the real world...

But all is not as it seems. Conspiracies and intrigues abound. The player will be surprised to find several human consciousnesses lurking with the SOUL - including the mind of its mysterious inventor, Dr Suribachi - and an even more shocking truth, that the unfathomable workings of the SOUL have tapped into higher dimension, and perhaps even touched God itself...

Details:

*Nano Machines:
The SOUL device is about the size of a small automobile, located deep with the 'head' of the Amaru. For the Nano-Machines (AKA Nanoships or just 'ships'), this is a vast multi-layered world to explore. When not in battle, the player sees a zoomed-out view of his surroundings, with objects shown on an exaggerated scale. The player controls one 'flagship' at a time, but other captured ships will follow in formation, controlled by AI.

*Battles:
Things zoom-in for battles. Enemy ships can be destroyed, and the debris absorbed into your own ship to 'grow' new upgrades for your ship. Ship battles are played out on a 2D plane, with a customisable 3D view of the action. The player will manoeuvre his craft while choosing which weapons and attacks to launch against the enemy - each uses different amounts of time and energy to fire, and has different effects on the target. Some ships can also transform or combine together to form larger ones.

All ships are sensitive to electromagnetic fields. The pulsing of the SOUL sends energy currents across the battlefield. Like ships sailing in the wind, skilled Nanopilots can use this to their advantage.

screen2.jpg

*Nodes:
These are the 'Neurons' of the artificial brain. Each is a complex 'city' of nano devices. These are the ports where your ships can be repaired, recharged, upgraded, or dismantled and the parts used for something else.

You can take on extra 'cargoes' of energy and various different minerals, which you can either trade or transport to other friendly-controlled Nodes. Nano-Soldiers can also be taken onboard for use in boarding actions to capture enemy ships, or invasions of enemy Nodes.

You can also use Nodes to uplink your consciousness and contact various other pilots and factions leaders.

Enemy-controlled Nodes will often be defended by powerful stationary weapons. These are fought in the same manner as enemy ships. If defeated, the enemy Node can be bombarded so that it ejects various useful minerals and packets of energy. Alternatively, you can attempt to invade the Node and take it over.

Certain Nodes are 'gateways' which allow quick transport to other layers of the SOUL.

*Infection Battles:
When fighting a ship boarding action or invading a Node, the player faces a different kind of game, on an even more zoomed-in scale than ship battles. A turn based game played out on a 2D grid. The player has so many 'Nanites' or Nano-Soldiers of various kinds. These have various possible actions, IE shooting, moving, multiplying, recharging, repairing, or infecting other Nanites. Only one of which can be chosen per turn. Infecting or destroying all the enemy Nanites will obviously bring victory.

It will be possible to arrange your Nanites in various formations to have them combine into larger machines and 'Nano-monsters'.

*Extra features:
The player has a customisable character as his 'avatar' in the game (while remaining in the real world, your character will project his/her consciousness into the SOUL to be able to control Nanoships). You can initially choose certain beneficial traits for your character, and more can be gained from experience combat. As your reputation grows, more factions will be seeking to ally with you or recruit you to carry out their missions.

Not all goals are related to combat. There are hidden characters, hidden Nodes, hidden 'bonus' ships and all kinds of special devices to find. Clues to their location can be found during the course of the game.

There is also an ongoing plotline where the player will gradually uncover a strange spiritual force within the SOUL, a spirit which - like any other - is struggling to know itself...

The game ends when the player 'dies' or chooses to 'retire'. But various 'special' endings can be found throughout the game.

*Multiplayer:
Stand alone games based on the two main battle modes - ship to ship, or 'infection'. These games are extremely customisable. Players can design their own ships and nanites to fight with. Teams can collect points over several different games to declare a winner.

Did you draw up those pic yourself??!! If so, what did you use? I would love to be able to do that.

Yes I use the free trial edition Flash editor i downloaded from the Marcomedia site a few years ago (and kinda 'modded' so the trial doesnt expire if you get what i mean :mischief: ). Note that i added lens flares and random blurring stuff in another program.

Spoiler more info :
If you're not fiddling about with frames and animation and complex stuff, its alot like your usual paint editor, except the lines you draw become vectors and curves with certain points that you can easily move around and bend and stuff. The 'radial fill' option is also a very easy way to make things look better than flat colour 2D.

It seems quite easy to me, but then I have been fiddling with Flash off-and-on since about 2002.

@Daftpanzer Umm... Maybe I should become an independent studio under your banner.
Im sure my game would look pretty bad if we were to compare all of these games in real life :)

Luckymoose said:
What version of Flash do you have? I use Flash 8, the first one I used was MX 2004.

MX 2004 is what i have. It seems pretty buggy too, but ive learnt to live with it. No broadband connection to download any new version :(

Any news on that?

As many employees as you feel is apropriate for the $4000 deal. Really the main thing is advice and expertise and code samples which may not require your guys to be physically present for most of the time. So, not very many people.

If you're asking for specific numbers... Really, id rather not get into that level of detail, if thats OK. I doubt Luckymoose will be going that deep into things.
