Gamestar new screenshots from Gamescom

GDR and mechs are nice, I'm putting in a tons more. About 40 mech units when the game comes out

And the rivers... someone gotta mod them.

I can't wait to try modern combat(besides GDR which is ruining the game :( ). Modern combat will be so cool:cool:, I just can't wait any more:bounce:.

I am not a big fan of GDR,but not opposed to them either.I will be though if they are way overpowered and screw up game balance.

The rivers I must say is a huge disappointment :cringe: How can you make rivers look so horrible, but the rest of the map so gorgeous. They stick out like a sore thumb.Maybe there can be a patch down the road to redesign them :please:

What strikes me most is the difference in graphical details between units like the battleship and cities. You can basically count all the individual armaments on the battleship, while some of the medium or small city buildings are still semi-textureless blocks.

Guys remember what were' looking at are builds, demos of the game. Remember how terrible the graphics of the CIV4 builds were? Just look around in the gallery, they were pretty bad too. Just have a little hope, I doubt they'll release a game where the river is a 2d blue ribbon floating over a ditch

Yeah I remember seeing images where the rivers were more detaled and nice but most of the review images show them as same as the sea, but I would still believe that rivers will be nicer in the final build.

At least some of the pictures seem to be PR package pictures (or maybe capture from an earlier build) as opposed to recent pictures.

This may have been said before but, IRL, I could imagine the GDR to be an effective unit but one that would a lot of tactical support. It isn't like we have force-shields and the like; the thing is going to get hit hard - especially by air and artillery. It is basically wearing a big (hit-me) target and once it goes down a lot of resources go down with it. That, and power/tile is really high as well.

I see it like a land-based battleship; which became much less viable with the advent of carriers and are pretty hard for smaller nations to justify building when they can field many more destroyers and cruisers for a similar cost.

River graphics; while nice, as less important to me than "realistic/geographically logical" river systems. I really hated seeing a river start in the middle of nowhere (on flat/grassland) and then flow next to hills/moutains and end up J-hooking a couple tiles short of the coast. Not enough info, however, to judge whether those are going to be improved.

The Transformer will not be seen on my screen. Although I reluctantly admit that it looks good. The rivers still haven't changed and the houses in town look out of place.

Otherwise the units look really awesome. The Foreign Legion and the artillery are excellent!

That river by the mech isn't a river, IT'S AN AQUEDUCT!

Why? It leads from a hill to a town, it's raised off the ground,

Jaybe. Who's acting? OK. You could have just corrected us calmly in an understated manner, like a gentleman, and earned a star in my book, at least. Now you just earned a  and a  and a mental note on my part to not take any of your posts seriously in the future either.

What has gone wrong with the discussions on here? Cheers.

The level of detail in these units so far is great! I love the ships, and the GDR looks damn good too, even if I don't think it should really be in. If the GDR is in they need to throw in more future soldiers and planes in ships, to even it out.

There's a few other pics of rivers that look better than before, but I really hate how they just appear from out of nowhere, as in the GDR pic. But then again if that's all I can find fault with, I'm a happy camper!!

I suspect that eventually they will turn on some software graphic switch in the final build that makes the rivers reflect their surroundings more, much like the ocean currently does. They may need to do those last in order to fit them in with the art style of the rest of the map.

I must also agree however that at present they look pretty bad.

Wow guys, stop being such crabby paddies just because you guys are probably thinking "I am too old to be playing with ROBOTS and it takes away the super serious mood of Civ"

Do you have a problem that it is a robot that walks on its legs? If you are going to say that IRL (which doesnt matter; Civ is a game) some bloke with a RPG will blow it right off, the GDR is from the future. Already there are defences being made against rockets to put on tanks. I dont mean just thicker and better armor. It will be a big target for planes, but so are battleships. It really cant be "useless" as some of you guys see it as.

Would you guys like it better if it wasnt called GDR? Or if it wasnt a walking robot? There was a funny thread a while ago jokingly suggesting GDRs here on the forums, and Firaxis picked it, and tried to let themselves and us have fun, while still filling a needed role (I would assume) in the game, and people simply complain for no other possible reason (how do you know how strong the thing is) than it is a Giant DEATH ROBOT.
