[GS] Gathering Storm General Discussion Thread

I am sad about British Museums.
I am also sad. I thought they were a really cute nod to archaeology's origins in the UK, and I loved it as an ability for how cute it was. I hope the British Museum is one of the new world wonders so it is not gone from the game completely.

Better maps is indeed a MASSIVE quality of life upgrade. One of my pet peeves is having to reroll my maps all the time (which is okay in a game like Civ 4, but not in Civ6 which has agonizingly long loading times)

I'd normally agree, but in the live stream he literally said something to the effect of "now let's introduce you to one of our new districts, the dam."

:)

Eww, inconsistent terminology across mediums. I guess I should watch the actual stream.

Based on the leak, I think a pretty safe guess would an aquatic industrial district. Coastal cities could use some more infrastructural options in my opinion.

Another thing I forgot to mention I'm hyped about: plate tectonics! I hate the way Civ6 randomly generates continents, so this makes me super excited.

The idea of Christina leading Sweden is as nonsensical to me as Roxelana and the Ottomans, so I'm very much hoping it's false...
There are art leaks that seem to suggest both Christina and Eleanor are beyond the realm of doubt.

anyway anyone noticed that monument and granary occupy less of the main city tyle?

Good change. City centers looked really weird.

18 new units AAAAAAAAA ... canals ... AAAAAAAAA ... WW1 scenario ...... tunels .....

I am gona freeze myself (like Cartman in South Park when he is waiting for Nintendo Wii) until February 14

does this number of 18 new units include uniqe units to civs or it is 18 new + 8 uniqe = 26 total new units

I get the feeling the new water district will be part of the revamped science victory. Like there could be an alternative way to win, maybe by building a certain number of them or developing them in a certain way?

Really glad to see the map become much more dynamic. I wonder if we can expect the first first look next week :D

I wonder if Egypt's Iteru ability has been modified to interact better with the new floodplains mechanic. Like maybe their districts are naturally immune to flood damage?

I think they'll have to change in some way, looking forward to the changes to existing civs as well!

Pericles is likely going to be edited so he specialised for the diplomatic victory. Other than him, I can't think of any other civs in the base game that would fit the diplomatic victory.

But are railroads just improved roads or do they do consist of something entirely separate? Most are for industry and towards borders.

Also I don't believe Byzantium ever fully conquered or even controlled all of the Balkans just the Western portion.

The new engineering options (railroads, canals, tunnels, bridges?) look nice. However, the Global Warming mechanic has always been problematic... traditionally the game forces you to industrialize to compete, but then punishes you for doing so successfully. Making it work is a highwire balancing act that Firaxis hasn't got right yet.

Not really:

True, but there are alternate energy sources that are probably more-expensive gold-wise but allow you to actually attempt to remediate the situation so that will definitely help, whereas there was nothing you could do in past iterations.

Also, can't wait for the new analyst!

Wow this looks like a very feature-filled expansion, with a lot of quite radical ideas on terrain. Colour me excited!

Looking forward to spending the next three months discovering all the new features down to the tiny details!

As an earth scientist I’m particularly chuffed they’re adding proper volcanoes along continental boundaries, and making flood plains and sea level rise features of the game.

I feel like there is a good risk that the game is over Before you even need industry and Power because the ai have a hard time to survive wars against players and is outteched anyway. Thus it will be interesting to see how the new strategic resource system impact the early game.

Prepare for disappointment.....:p
Was not the name of the expansion posted with the leaders?
