[GS] Gathering Storm General Discussion Thread

Wait, Auckland as a city-state was spotted in game?

It's in the Hungary First Look.
I doubt Firaxis would make it a Maori city.

I hope that the Purepecha are an added civ... idlk how well they fit with the theme, but if Canada can be suspected and Hungary confirmed, I don't see why Erendira and Tariacuri can't make an appearance and give Montezuma a run for his money in Mesoamerica... oh and Mexico led by Lazaro Cardenas would be badass.
I think the Mixtec led by Eight Deer Jaguar Claw would be the best option for a third Mesoamerican civ. Please no Mexico, though; we're already stuck with America, Brazil, Australia, and Canada which IMO opinion is four post-colonial civs too many but at the very least could be trimmed down to America and Brazil...

If the leak is real do you have any guesses which civ gets two infrastructures ?

I think if Mali are in they get civ unique building (like Mint for example) but Mansa Musa gets some unique mosque or temple, he build loads of them during his pilgrimages.

Eleanor.

By the way, can I just reiterate that the Netherlands really should have been in this expansion rather than the last one (and, while we're at it, have been led by King William I (NOT William of Orange) rather than Queen Wilhelmina)? If I just compare the few things I had to talk about in the last expansion (my personal opinion on Wilhelmina as leader and... oh wait that's it) versus this one (dams, floods, natural disasters, canals, rising sea levels, ...), the difference is simply crazy. Hope we at least get a rework to tie in to the new mechanics.

I agree, the Netherlands are well suited to GS. All the floods, the dam and canal districts, etc. I hope they'll get updated.

I prefer to believe that whatever the infrastructure is; it will be like Brazil where they are more or less the same thing but you can't have both at the same time. So perhaps a unique arena and unique ferris wheel or zoo and aquarium or stadium and aquatics centre.

...or it's just occurred to me that I suggested before about Canada's great air force and their use of seaplanes; so perhaps they get a unique Aerodrome district and a unique "seaplane harbour" tile improvement which can be built on coast and lake tiles adjacent to land? ...I would love that!

Woah hold on, what’s wrong with newer nations? I get they’re not as exotic but at one point every great empire was a baby. And countries like the USA represent the great empires of the 20th century and beyond. And that’s not to mention the in game wonders and projects pioneered by these newer nations.

I was thinking the other way around as Mansa Musa might get a Treasury as a Bank replacement, but I agree that they might get two.
Either that or Eleanor could get a unique infrastructure.

Eleanor getting a unique infrastructure might make up somewhat for the loss of the Redcoat for England for example, but what kind of infrastructure would it be I wonder? Hm. I'm familiar with Eleanor's history but I can't name one particular thing that might be shared in common for both France and England....

For me it's a matter of personal preference. Having modern nations that started as European colonies just feels wrong in the early eras.
While having Gilgamesh and Trajan colonizing Mars seems a bit weird to me. :p And sometimes I like the weirdness.

But on the whole, I like a big variety - give me all the civs! :D

That's the only reason I thought of her. The only thing I could think of is her getting a "Court of Love" but that wouldn't necessarily translate into a building, but then again they gave Macedon a building that wasn't based off of a known infrastructure.
I'm still leaning towards Mali getting two.
Did I miss something or did the leaks confirm that she would be leading both England and France?

They're boring? They're not really civilizations so much as autocephalous branches of other civilizations?

The Court of Love was an idea, not a place, and it probably didn't exist. :p
