Caiman islandd = George town

Jamaica = Kingston
Norfolk island= Kingston

Ok, more geography: What map projection (more correct to say coordinate system) is this?

Looks like the NATO UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator), but I've never seen it used on such a large scale, so I may be wrong.

This is just a grid to know what UTM zone you should use (like UTM 31).

This is a UTM coordinate system

See how the longitude/latitude lines end up as curve in a real UTM, when they are straight lines on the picture you showed.


@Izipo: It's normal you have never seen UTM used on such a large scale, because it can't be used. A UTM coordinate system is valid for 6° of longitude, hence the 60 time zone needed to cover the globe.

@ Ozbenno : how do you think Dakar and Dacca are pronounced? I doubt they are pronounced the same.

I was hoping no one here knew that much about UTM... . You're right about that Steph - it is only a grid showing where the zones are. But I think Izipo should get the next question, as mine was a bit vague...

Oh, it brings back baaad memories. See that line between zones 30 and 31 ? I was once posted near that line... Made for some fun traveling when I didn't pay extra close attention to the coordinates given.

Anyways, now I have to think up a quick question...

POTUS is the commander-in-chief of the US armed forces, but it's not a rank (or grade) in the armed forces.

Unfortunately for you, I'm developping and marketing an aeronautical procedure design software based on a geographical information system, and when we sell it to a new country, we are using by default a UTM coordinate system, if the user doesn't require a more specific one.

@Izipo: that's General of the armies (note the plural), hold by only two people : Pershing and George Washington.

The line between 30 and 31 is rather long, it extend from North to South... Including France.
