This could very well create a monster civ somewhere else.

Guys, drop me out of this one. My philosphy disagrees to much with PaleHorse76. To me Wonder building is a key portion of the game, and I don't want to have to worry about another cancel wondered.

Sorry, but this game isn't going to fun if I have to worry that any wonder I build will be cancelled
Pls stay with us till the end. This will definitely be a fun game with so many 'colorful' ppl playing.

It's in the nature of SGs for prod orders to chg and what-have-yous on the spot, by the decision of the current player. ;) Makes the game feels more exciting.

Well, it wasnt personal. Palehorse wanted to go with troops and then the Great Library instead.

Considering your successful knack for aquiring contact and maps, LKendter, the Great Library would be quite usefull indeed.

As for your request to be dropped;

No! You have to finish! :p ;)

Seriously, I hope you re-consider. There are many different personalities in this group. More so than any SG Ive played before. It will make for a very interesting game, I wager.

Besides, Ive seen alot of games where France (as the AI) builds the Pyramids. If they do...

"Besides, Ive seen alot of games where France (as the AI) builds the Pyramids. If they do..."

Think of it this way - the French are building the Pyramids for us. ;) How helpful of them. :D

Anyway, highlights of my turn : -

490 - Founded Munich east of Berlin.

430 - Declared war on Elizabeth and her cronies. Our forces swept down on London!

410 - Captured London with no losses. English spearmen heading east with settler....

390 - Heidelburg was founded west of Berlin. There goes Palehorse's twin cities. ;)

350 - Hastings destroyed! It was an accident, I swear! :p

End

Cunobelin of Hippo -
Dont worry about the Zip thing, if you dont have a win-zip program, I will install the stuff-it one myself and convert your attachments for the next player. :D

Knight-Dragon-
Good job, I will continue the crusade against whats left of England.
Then build up to face off with France.

I suggest that everyone get Stuff-It extractor that way if Joe or I am not avail you can still get the file and play. I have it and it is free, just watch out for all the quick launch bar icons it makes, it also tries to steal file associations with zips and such, becareful. :)

Yeah, right! ;) Just remember if the city is size 1 and doesn't have a Great Wonder in it then it WILL be destoryed when you take it over. If it does have a Great Wonder in it the city will be spared (This worked for me in a game, once, so maybe it is random, anyone know for sure?).

K-D, that was a better placement for the west city than I said, good call.

Not much to say...

I attacked and unavoidably razed some size 1 English cities, but built new ones in better spots.

There is a couple swordsmen waiting to attack the last English city. It wont grow to size 2...

Hamburg is building a settler. If it is done before that little bugger is size 2, blast it and build a new one.

Building lots of swordsmen to attack France. They are rapidly expanding towards us.

Babylon got the Pyramids. We are working on the GL. So is France.

We need some galleys to explore and find more civs, otherwise the GL will be totaly worthless.

LKendter is up:

I renamed Bristol to Breslau. :D

That is also where I think we should move the Capitol, maybe soon. Its more centralized than Berlin.

If we conquer France, which we should, then we can build the Forbidden Palace in Paris too.

That would maximize production and commerce across the whole continent.

Meanwhile, we have alot of swordsmen to make...

Are you saying that if we don't meet them we can't get their sciences? Interesting. I normally don't go for Great Wonders, I just capture them. The 30 turns it takes to make TGL (the only way to abbrv The Great Library ;)) I could have 10 more swordsmen......well, 13.3333 if you go by shield cost but since shields don't carry over (aack, I hate that) you will only end up with 10.

Exactly. In civ3, you have to have contact to get tech from TGL.

GALLEYS! QUICK! It will help us catch up! We are behind France!

Pre-turn -
OK, I will concede somewhat of a knee-jerk reaction However I have never had anyone in the 15+ succession games I have played cancel a wonder. You are right about diverse player styles. I am actually a development player mainly. I can be nasty during war time, but I have won many games with Space Race / Diplomatic, and 20000 culture city.

I will give it another shot, but I want to come to agreements for future wonder plans. The cascade effect of the Pyramids is hugh, I feel it has put Germany and an major disadvantage. We are trapped on a island, an could fall way behind the rest of the world in science. All of the extra pop would help big time.

We need to play dirty, to salvage this mess :flamedevi: Peace treaty with England - Get all of their money, and code of laws. :flamedevi: Oops, sorry England, news of the peace treaty didn't get to our troops in time.

Disband all of the regular Spearman, I HATE non-veteran units. We are at peace for now so switch to VETERAN spearman production.

Saxony is hopelessly corrupt, so switch to settler and whip it out.
Switch Rostock to Galley. I want to know what is on the Island next to France.

Establish an embassy with Paris - DAMN IT! Great Library in 15 turns. Well I have MY challenge, for these 20 turns ...

- Well the people like my plans, and we add to the palace.

50 AD - Switch Munich to temple. Some year, I would like that Iron in our borders. Massive manuerving to beat France to the GL.
90 AD - Beat France to killing a barb camp. Hey, $25 is our money. The palace expands again?
150 AD - Begin the settler dance with France.
190 AD - Since I know what you war manaics are up to, I start pillaging some roads outside of the French borders.
210 AD - We are royally screwed. Japan finishes the Great Library. I wasted a fortune in effort to beat France :( We the worlds most expensive library, wasting 282 shields.
260 AD - Nuremberg is founded - we own the big fur spot.
290 AD - Republic is orders to be researched.
350 AD - The French declare war on us, and the people celebrate by expanding the palace?
We Joanie shoots herself in the foot. So far we have lost 1 unit, Gain a great leader, and kill multiple French units.
360 AD - First contact - India. It cost $100, but we know what the world looks like :) The Indians world give up any communcations, so send the Galley NORTH and contact Russia ourselves.

Summary - Well you wanted war, didn't you? Keep the leader nearby for the fobidden palace! If India is any indication, we are behind in tech big time.

The first contact plan, follow the red arrow, and we can make first contact ourselves.

Of coz I know that. ;) Just trying to up some drama.

Anyway when I took London, it was size 1 too. So maybe capitals are different as well. ;)

Looks like we're gonna have the Western Continent all to ourselves. :D

donsig is up next

When you take a 1 sized city, you raze it if it has never produced any culture. And because their capital have had their palace in it, it has produced culture...

Good tip, Grey Fox. I didnt know that.

I have to agree with LKendter, we better get some wonders built.

I propose shooting for The Art of War, aside from free barracks and veteran troops, our civilization will enter a Golden Age as it is completed. That will catapult Germany ahead in science.

Heres the catch:

If we build the AoW with the Great Leader, no Golden Age will occur. We have to build it the hard way.

I also think we should bypass engineering temporarily, and shoot for Astronomy instead. That means Theology and Education first. Then we can build Copernicus and a university in our capitol.

And ofcourse, Sistine Chapel. A fantastic wonder, later in the game.

Remember: If we trade a tech now, with anyone, Japan will get it for free! Until Education is researched and cancells the Great Library. So, be judicious. Or buddy up to Japan and get their tech! :D

The Great Leader should be saved, for now. For the Forbidden Palace. If we get a second GL, build whatever you feel is best. An army of swordsmen would be nice, or a new Palace in Breslau.

More importantly, donsig:

We must aggressively attack and conquer France now. Quickly! I know you have the experience and gusto to do it, Knight-Dragon and Cunobelin of Hippo will follow.

Take it to 'em! :scout:

I'll agree with joe on this one. We must take out France as soon as possible. Then, even if we're slightly behind in tech compared with the rest, we'll be secured as we'll have no enemies connected to us landwise. ;)

Seems like I'm up next after donsig. :D

Do the new Germans (i.e. Frenchmen) have swordsmen? :D

:rotfl:

THAT was classic, Lee. Ah, it reminds me of the old days...
Well, we can forget the UN victory!

Knight-Dragon -

donsig is catching some ZZZZs right now, and will play tonight. Then your up. And, yes, I am pretty sure France does have iron working.

But we have better Generals. You guys. :goodjob:

370 AD: Lost horse.

380: Lost sword, oan loses sword.

390: Lost horse and 2 slaves.

400: Contact with Russia. Dijon destroyed, France loses sword & spear, we capture 2 slaves. We also kill French warrior on Big Horse Island. French advancing on Nuremburg.

410: India is building Hanging Gardens. We lose a sword, France loses 4.

420: France loses 2 swords, we lose one. Nuremburg abandoned.

430. Russia building Hanging Gardens. Nuremburg occupied by French troops.

440: Germans learn about 'republican' government. Evil despots shun the whole idea.

450: Joan wants peace. We lose sword and spear but capture 2 slaves. France loses 2 swords & a spear.

470: Ameins destroyed and 2 slaves taken. France and Germany both lose a sword.

490: German coinage begun in Berlin. France loses spear.

500: Germans reoccupy Nurembuerg but lose 2 horse.

520: Dusseldorf founded. Joan loses sword.

540: Contact with Japan - they built a city on Big Horse Island. We lose a horse and two workers - but they are immediately recaptured. Germans learn better construction techniques as a religion with only one God spreads through the land.

550: France loses sword.

560: India building Great Lighthouse. The fighting has been heavy these past years: we lost 5 horse, 5 swords and a spear. We captured 6 slaves. France lost a warrior, 3 spear and 13 sword.
