German soldier told to imagine African Americans when firing...

If this was racism, the example wouldn't be blacks int the Bronx but Turkish in Kreuzberg. The man just tries to be funny (note btw the tone he uses saying "Afro-American", which implies it is more like making fun out of political correctness).

The whole episode is worrying allthough, because that kind of behaviour and speech, I think, is the foundation of lag wagon effect which sometimes yields very unfortunate events. Think about the murders done by UN soldiers in Africa for example. In extreme situations those jokes can turn into reality.

We are state blue. The enemy is red, and he will attack from the East.

One guy told that he asked sergeant why the enemy always comes from east, and the sgt replied: "Could Russian be tircky enough to attack from west?"

Temelin is a kind of strange issue. I won´t go into detail but both sides acted with the same kind of arrogance/thick headedness which kind of proves we are too similar to really lie each other.

Couldn't agree more, the whole affair is absurd. I just thought you might use it as a good scenario for a military exercise :scan:

We prepared for the Invasion from East since our independence 1955, paradigm change take a long time.

At a troop exercise in ´98 the scenario was that paramilitaries from the East infiltrated our country with an unknown base of operation and helpers from inside Austria. They would blow up infrastructure for destabilisation and as preparation for invasion. We should watch our Hungarian minority I guess :scared:

Well, Hungarians are more popular than Czechs in Austria, I guess ;)

Your are in the Bronx, with your S.A.W., you are dug in under a tree and some shrubs and dressed in forest camo...
a whole new meaning to urban jungle i guess...

Haha.

Seriously, if the Germans really wanted to make it more realistic, the black guys in the van should've been doing a drive by, and they should be training the soldier to hit a moving target/vehicle.

It seems the swiss army is more politically correct ;) In our scenarious it's usually that we're caught in a war between "Nordland" and "Südland" that both violate our airspace and have to be shot down.

Of course, nobody knows who these two countries might be :mischief:

Perhaps they don't give a c**p about what you think.

EDIT: I'd love to see how your intructors train your soldiers.

"Imagine there are five Arabs with AK-47, kill them!"
"Sir yes sir! Die you dirty arab scumbags!" -tadadada- "That's for 9/11!" -tadadada-

The only difference nobody took a footage of that.

That's a winner, Winner :D

OT, please note that the young officer in question, only 20 years old BTW, has today been summarily fired w/o notice from the Bundeswehr.

In my eyes, this incident, just like the recent 'skull' incident, has been blown way out of proportion.
Soldiers are supposed to be aggressive and have always been foulmouthed. They can't possibly be expected to be 'politically correct' in every utterance at any time.... totally absurd notion!
The example he uses is in bad taste, certainly, but ANY scenario he used would have offended someone. If he had substituted 'Indians' for 'Afro-Americans' we would now have the Native Americans calling for his head and an apology from the German state.

BTW, the mayor of the Bronx calling for an apology from the German state is also totally inappropriate - the officer wasn't representing Germany in any way and has been disciplined (if too harshly, IMHO)... so what's to apologize?

Germany and Italy? What about France? ;)

And the mayor does not represent the city or United States as a whole which shows the rediculousness of what is it like to make public speeches in United States inner-cities.Nothing but tumultorous nonsense created by interest groups that pressure city officials in order to exchange votes that give each of the interest party(mayor and the whatever interest group that Jesse Jackson run and many others) as means to consolidate and maintain a public image for next election or maintain a cash-flow for their campaigns.

That's absurd, for what? For making a joke?

World has gone crazy, I'd promote him just to pis* off the public ;)

Absurd or not, it's true. Read it this morning in Spiegel Online - can't get a more reliable source than that.
As I said, a total overreaction. I pity the poor guy - 20 years old and his career is wrecked... and I doubt he'll get a job after being thrown out of the Bundeswehr.

Swiss were only developing nuclear weapons but wasteland should be both countries if they had some:)

Swiss were only developing nuclear weapons

yeah, we told everybody that we stopped :mischief:

it may be harsh, but I would have fired him as well, if only for being an incompetent idiot. Especially if he was an officer he should know better (especially that he let himself be filmed doing it).

In fact he was fired for being an incompetent idiot  - that incident itself would probably just have resulted in a warning or maybe a dressing down by his superiors, but the fact that it was broadcast on TV triggered a rule in the German Armed Forces laws that calls for the immediate dismissal of any soldier or officer who is enlisted for less then 4 years and behaves in a way that severely damages the Bundeswehr's public image...

First Imus, and now this? I know there will be a good South Park coming up for this stuff.

There already was. Stan's dad shouted the N word on Wheel of Fortune. Hilarity ensued.

damn, the secret is out. Yes, I actually do secretly control the Bundeswehr :scan:

- that's why the instructor used this "scenario" - because it is believable.

Somehow I don't think that a highly camouflaged soldier with a machine gun will ever find himself staring down Bronx gang members on the street.

Racism or no, I think he failed pretty badly at whatever motivation he was trying to impart. It looked like the private was having a good chuckle over it. :crazyeye:
