All the time the AI's are coming to you demanding that you break your agreements with another AI. How can YOU ask the AI to break agreements with other AI's? I can't find the button for this.

Context: My neighbor, Cyrus, is pleased with me despite our close borders. He's been freindly at various times, and I could get him back there by giving him a few gifts. Louis XIV is over on the other side of him, and is in total warmonger mode. He keeps coming through Cyrus' territory with his hordes of horse archers to come after me. Short of getting him to declare war, how can I get Cyrus to quit letting Louis use his territory as a highway to me?

In the diplomacy screen, if its red, they will refuse no matter what.

If its white, you can demand it OR trade for it. Just because they are willing to trade for it doesn't mean that they will give it to you when you demand it, and it doesn't mean you have the resources to bribe them into doing it.

In short, the AI gets to demand stuff from you that you can't demand from them. It sucks, its been one of those little annoyances.

When you go to trade with Cyrus, there is an option to Stop Trading With, which should have Louis XIV listed, hopefully not in red. I think that if you can get Cyrus to do that it not only stops any trades that they have going but it means closed borders. I wasn't able to get anybody to do it in the game that I happened to look at.

Perhaps, but in someways it's a time-saver if the AI is not going to do something no way, now how. Otherwise you can waste a lot of time offering them stuff while the contantly refuse to do what you want.

Though I suppose it would be nice if there was an option to inform them of the dire consequences if they don't comply to see if that softens their position.

Something similar to 'our threats are backed with nuclear weapons!' kind? I suppose it would be similar to China right now amassing troops near N. Korea and 'requesting' nuclear disarmament. That would definitely sound good, but concerning demands by the AI it's more fun not knowing whether they're bluffing or not.

In a game a few days ago, I was tons ahead in tech of all other civs.

Stupid Catherine declared war, so I bribed all but 1 of 6 other civs to declare war on her by trading tech.

Bribing them for war seems to be pretty easy unless they are annoyed at you usually.

I have found is getting them to make a permanent alliance can be a bit difficult.
