Getting Dye Factory is really hard

Due to Dye factory requiring one of the gatherers, which most of them goes obsolete at crop rotation, it is real challenging to create a Dye factory, only murex diver, and sulphur mine are viable options. Shouldnt Dye factory require a resource instead of a resource building and/or resource in the viscinity?

It becomes even harder when you have modern seismology, since the only remaining resource to create dye maker from is murex diver and prime timber.

You are right, they are, however, shouldnt dye factory rather work of a resource instead of a specific building, like most other factories do? Without dye, you cannot make books, and without books, you cannot make any school building in the modern era.

Good points to bring up when we get to that point in our v39 review. I'll try to remember we have these issues though.

I've had this issue, even with the indigo farm. A dye collapse is very hard to avoid, due to electricity being need in the dye factory. I think I had a collapse because of a city not being on a river or something. It was a long time ago so it was hard to remember all the details.

Could black inks lessen the collapse by still allowing books? Colored dye is not something need to print.

Books should've never been linked to indigo imhpo. That was a design mistake.

Yeah it is pretty hard. Almost always only a sulphur mine opens the dye for me at renaissance and by then, it is almost too late for calligraphy schools etc.

I never have this problem with dye.

What Map are you using and what settings for it?

Different maps, continents, big and small etc. I usually play with large, temperate map so there should be more than enough chances for flowers etc. I don't see this as a big problem though, current troubles with V38 are much more urgent.

Point is I get dye almost all the time or at least can trade for it. And I do multiple games at a time.

So this leads me to believe it's something in your choices or your playstyle.

Playing style affects to the appearance of resources? Really?
I guess map size and land area are main factors here.

There is game option controlling resource density, that works if map scripts itself doesn't have choice to control resource density.

The problem isnt midgame, the problem is closer to lategame, when some of the buildings that are prerequisite to dye factory goes obsolete.

Its not a massive problem i think the mapscript was a large factor in this when i did the post, i have since changed to c2c_world, and it seems to be better, however, AI in particular seems to struggle with trading for dye, or books if they cant get dye.

Late game is still not balanced, it is all Too New. And pepper2000 is still not done with it either. Only rare players ever get into the late game. So expect discrepancies. And when you find one Please report that it is Late game problem. Just don't come in and say dye is borked or Books don't work. Details are an absolute must have thing.

Isnt that what i did in the original post? I started a discussion on the topic as a potential bug. Books being a fairly vital commodity for a number of education buildings, and having me and most of the AI unable to get it at the time seemed to me as a bug.

Since the thread has been living its own life, and i have responded to it when there has been direct questions. I even stated in my previous post that it was quite possible the mapscript since i have had far easier time getting Dye factory in newer games.
