Ghost train explodes, devastates Quebec town

Maybe Quebec can join the US? That'd change the calculus of the House a lot.

Quebec has a lot of power and influence here in Canada.. If they joined the U.S. that power would all but evaporate away. For that reason I don't think they'd ever want to.

Plus, their language laws might not be compatible with the American constitution, although I am just guessing.

We put up with Puerto Rico speaking Spanish. But many things would erode French use there. The entertainment would be under a lot of pressure.

Yeah, but I'd guess that Quebec has far more strict language laws, such as which language a business can or can't use in whichever circumstance. I can see these laws not jiving well with the American constitution, but again I'm just guessing. Either way though I don't see any pros of Quebec joining the U.S. They have a good cushy position here in Canada.

I can't really see any reason part or all of Canada would want to join the US is the foreseeable future. Most Canadians seem to like the differences. The others just come here. :p

At least, the train damage can be repaired. Inflicting the US Congress on ourselves, on the other hand...

In other news, the company has now given its workers a standing order that they are to refuse to answer police questions without legal advice from the company.

Well, that should pretty much be standing orders for any company, at any time.

But:
1. Are they giving free legal advice (but no jobs) to the workers they laid off?
2. If I was a worker, I'd seek independent counsel, the company pretty obviously isn't looking out for my interests.
