Most people can imagine getting hit by a train, which is what happened to these girls.

The getting hit by a train part isn't in dispute. That does deserve sympathy if it's not the victim's own fault or own stupidity that put him/her in danger of being hit in the first place.

In other words: I would have tremendous sympathy if someone were hurt or killed due to a train crash that he/she had not caused. If someone were an innocent passenger or passer-by, or got shoved onto the tracks by someone else, I would have a great deal of sympathy for that individual.

But these girls brought on their own misery by doing something that defies all understanding. They do not deserve my sympathy, and they're not getting it.

I think there's more to the story. Some bloke probably pulled a lever, diverting the train from hitting (and killing) five bystanders on a separate track.

Likely they were passively suicidal (no one is quite that dumb, you can feel the vibration of a train coming a half mile away or more). I wouldn't be surprised if they were on SSRI's.

Kinda off topic but they deserve this because they are from Maine and I hate Maine for this reason:

My last deployment we were in Bangor, Maine headed to Germany and I left my cigarettes on the plane so I tried to buy some and the guy at the counter in the little shop thing got PISSED and said something like "NO! AND YOU SHOULDN'T SMOKE ANYWAYS IT WILL KILL YOU!!!"
