Give me 18, but not on Earth - new PBEM

dont like it. dont like that you have seen it or that anyone in the game has seen it. i know everyone wants a fair start but lets face it the world as we know it IS NOT FAIR.

If you dont like the map then just dont play it. I know others will like it.

PBEM Tracker didn't accept my upload though it told me it was successful. I emailed the turn to Mayic. Not a bad start. Maybe it will be good, tough to tell as yet.

I tried again this morning and my upload went to the spot it should be in. Thanks, however it was fixed. :D

Guys, I am making a multiplayer map which we could use for the shadow game(s).

It can be found here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=452816

This map is in design. It is based on a suggestion of Eclipse4449 to build a civ map based upon a 8 player Ladder Map from StartCraft: Big Game Hunters.

As the map is geared towards multiplay I let you follow the process.
Suggestions are welcome.

Map making goals:

1) Balanced starting position for all 8 players

2) Some chokepoints on the map (narrow point with hills and forest)

3) Furthermore the most and best resources in the center

4) Spread all other resources across the map:
some northern resoruces (e.g. fur, deer), some southern resources (banana, win etc.), some eastern and some western.
>>> Then you have reason for war and trade.

5) Make sure everybody has copper in the start.

6) Put a large barb city in the center, with some developed improvements (copper, horse and iron). (optional)

7) Make land / sea crossing (like an "X", give these rivers). Then all rivers are connected and all lands are connected.
These can be crossed by sea forces if one posesses the fortress at this location.

8) Place some little islands with crucial resources in the rivers to make sea war also interesting.

9) Make land at some points one tile wide (so by building a fort somebody can go from one body of water to the other.

10) Make it a visually appealing map (this will come step-by-step)

11) Name points of interest for increased immersion.

12) Increase level of interaction between players by making landbridges. This allows for naval or land invasions, or both

13) Make map wrap both from north-to-south and from east-to-west (again increased interaction and more possibilities)

If you have comments / suggestions: please follow the link and post them there.

My opinion: This is definitely a fun idea for a change of pace Civ game. Someone made the comment about you knowing the map - its totally fair if the map is shared with everyone ahead of time, there is no advantage that way. Personally I think part of the fun is exploring a completely random map, but a game like this is definitely well balanced and has a different kind of fun twist. This type of game is definitely one where "Always War" is pretty mandatory and it focuses more on the military strategy rather than overall strategies. I'd be willing to play it for a change of pace for sure. I love all the specific ideas, anything to add a bit of strategery from a military standpoint is awesome.

I'd say it remains to be seen whether we use this type of map for the mirror game... that would have to go up for a vote. But it definitely would be a fun as a change of pace game for a smaller group if thats all we get.

Speaking of mirror game - I can start setting this up if ya'll would like. I'd like to get some input first into settings from everyone - this is your chance to take advantage and voice your opinion. The goal is to use the power of this game and its 18 people to run a second game, slightly different settings (possibly) and have 2 large games going, theoretically on a slightly different schedule so between the two games you get a turn more often. It can also be fun for those who get a bad start in the main game or get knocked out early, you still have a big game to play in.

I'm going to say let's debate settings and whatnot for the next couple days while everyone joins the game in PBEMtracker and then we will launch on one of my "off days" to keep it rolling in parallel.

The game is going to be called "Give me 18 mirror game" and the password will be the same as the other password. I will start it up now, please join as soon as you get a chance if interested!

I am pretty sure this map will also be fun for builders. As there are a lot of points were you can set up a good defence.
I will also make it that way that the drive to the center ïsn't 'mandatory'.

Another obvious tip:

Always PROTECT YOUR CIV WITH A PASSWORD

I was just skimming through the posts here of this topic... does everyone have the same Civ password? I mean when I played my first turn, there was a password already set up so I just hit ok and proceeded with my advanced start procedure. I personally thought the password protection was more for multiplayer real time (lobby games, etc).

No everyone sets their own password for their turn, or else anyone can load your turn at any time and see everything about your civ.

Not that people are doing that, but its possible there are cheaters out there who will do such a thing. You should be able to set it to whatever you want next turn!

When you just hit ok, you were not entering a password, so you don't have one.

When you next receive your turn, it will just invite you ( or anyone) to enter the turn by pressing OK.

When playing your next turn, hit Esc to bring up the Game Menu, then choose 'Your Details' and enter a password in the correct slot.

The password takes effect the next time you save the game (or end the turn.)

I´ve reuploaded the save to the tracker as it looked good on my end. Also I´ve send rd13 my mail address should there be any further problems.

Nighthawk if you have the e-mails of all the players it would be good if you send a mail out with the info.

Hi, not sure how to pm as new to this site but my email is paulbrend at btinternet dot com
In the right hand corner of this page is a small area that says welcome Count1 if you have logged in. You have last visited.........Private Messages click that link. Welcome to the boards Paul, we have played in the past. :)

I think you cant PM if you dont have a certain number of posts in the forum or something like that.

Here is that rule:
Newly registered members may not use signatures, e-mail forum members, post visitor messages, use the private messaging system or join or create social groups, until they have been members for 5 days AND have at least 5 posts.

rd13 - it looks like its on you. Did you ever resolve your error with Michkov? He said he sent a new file to you... if it works take the turn and lets keep it moving!

Well then technically, Count1 can use PM now since he has 5 posts. ;)
