This may give Byzantium a moment of breath.
It makes sense if the Khan has been following the East Roman Orthodoxy.

The mighty Khan of the mongolian nation, we plea for forgiveness for the disrespect in words of our diplomat. It must have been a mistake of language translation.
Gustavus Adolphus is ready to pay you some tribute of 7 gpt to maintain peace and friendly relations between our states.
 
7gpt? Please Gustavus, we felt insulted for the Mongols...7 cities maybe a better offer.

Against my own better judgement, I listen to the opinions of my brother generals, who seek to offer you a "diplomatic" deal. They would prefer to see less bloodshed. I think of it as weak-willed, but respect their counsel.

My offer is simple and clear:
I require the cities on the black sea. Their women will provide my men with much needed "entertainment" after a long day in the saddle.
Furthermore, you will present me with 300 gold plus 7 gpt.
Porcelain and Wine will be your gift to my family and generals.

Upon acceptance, we will consider you friends and brothers, united in arms.

Should you reject this generous offer, your men will be slaughtered like pigs, your women and children taken as slaves, your halls plundered for all your worldly possessions, and your name wiped from the annals of history.

Think on this. Wisely. My armies await your response.
