Please do not post yet. I have to make two reservation posts.
Introduction
First there was but null and Void. It was a desolate realm of despair, ruled by All-lord Afaja, the Demon Turtle. He long watched the Abyssal Space, but one day, the sky was scoured open by the scar of life, blistering through the æons as the First Sun was born. Afaja's shell was torn wide open, his maw and flesh gutted and springled across the Æther. And then his dead, hollow shell, mighty as it were, rested in place, and above it, the First Sun soared in a bright, holy flame. On the shell of Afaja, his flesh and blood rained, his cracks became currents of muck and mud. And from this primordial blasted soil, Earth came to be, on the shell of the Greater Abyssal. From the primordial soil, the first deities rose to mold the world in their ideal.
Rules
First off, I expect you to read and understand all rules before joining. They're not particularly organized, I admit, but it's important so you don't get caught off guard. Ask me about something if you want clarification.
This is a lite GodNES. Basically, each player assigns himself a position of a primordial deity. A player should treat his part of the players' pantheon as representing an element, an emotion or a concept. Examples are God of War, Prosperity, Fire, Emptiness, Judgment, Growth, Wisdom, etc. It is also possible to be God of a more specific concept, such as Wine, Trade or Fishing, but bear in mind that living creatures and specific beings are not actually created yet, so be careful. Gods are not immortal and die in this world.
Players are not omnipotent either. They spend each turn assigning their cosmic strength to terraform and shape the world. This divine strength and capacity is abstracted through the power sources of Might, Realm and Patronage. Treat these stats akin to EP in other NESes; they may be spent to influence the world. Each source of power counts equally (A point of Might is as powerful as a point of Patronage, and both are spent on the same thing) but are gained from different areas of the world. Your powers are gained from the following:
Might - fundamentally, Might is your divine presence. It summarizes your metaphysical potency gained from experience and unfathomable age. Gods are ancient beings and the older they get, the grander, more bemythed, more primordial they are compared to the rest of the world. Your god's initial Might is 1 and increases by 1 per turn to represent the potency you gain from aging.
Realm - fundamentally, Realm is your earthly extent. It denotes the raw power you assume from Afaja's dead flesh, basically, the larger an area you have under your care, the more power you gain to influence the world.
Patronage - if we ever get so far as to actually creating life and peoples, Patronage will become a factor. It denotes the devotion the earthly populations have to you and summarizes the extent earthlings may sacrifice or die for you. The greater your faith is and the more powerful your followers are, the greater is your patronage.
The concrete amount of change you make by investing your power is wholly abstracted, and I admit to having no fair measure of how much energy is contained within eg two Realm points. But this is a list of approximations of one Power point's potency:
You may pour a lesser sea
You may raise a mountain or a small mountain chain
You may create a desert
You may grow a forest
You may construct a large structure
You may create a flock of animals (note that they must have an environment to live in)
In the beginning the whole world is a fleshy crust of Afaja's dead husk. It is of the Abyss, so life doesn't really prosper or sustain itself on it; rather it is undone by a strange mute death. It is formless even though perfectly visible. In order to use it, you must reshape it into earth.
Also, in order to not get players to tear each other's throats apart too much, working together will help out a project quite a bit. When two or more gods arrange an earthly action together, the Power spent on the action will be treated as if 50% higher (albeit this is another approximation.) That means that two gods with 2 Power points may eg grow three forests instead of two during a turn.
Regarding throat-tearing: I expect conflict between the gods to happen. Although I have no wish for or against conflict (a peaceful NES would be really interesting to see), the rules lend themselves to creation of alliances, conquest of mortal realms and conversions of populations in the name of divine power. Do be aware of that so you won't be caught by total surprise when backstabbed by Lord Iggy. (That vile warmongering bastard!) I assume a point spent to destroy equals slightly less than a point spent to create.
In order to fundamentally change terrain rather than build on it (Eg in order to turn a forest into a desert rather than grow more, bigger trees) I think that spending both destruction and creation Power (that is about 2 Might to change that damn swamp zone into a civilized city) would suffice.
And lastly, well-written (and concise) orders plus good stories will procure slightly better results than lazily typing out a few goals. I won't hate if you do the latter though, as that's the way I do it myself.
Submissions & orders
When making a submission for a god, please fill in the below template and post it in the tread.
Deity name: (Your name as a god)
Embodiment: (What you are the god of, eg fire, death, judgment, swamps, time)
Player: (Your CFC account name)
Description: (Of course, as players per first turn erupt from primordial ooze, not much backstory is possible, but you can still put in details of your personality, looks, gender if any, relations to other gods etc.)
First turn realm: (You get 1 Power to shape your first realm when joining. Describe what you want)
To perform actions when turns progress, you will have to send orders before deadline. I will reserve myself the right to ignore orders if they don't make it. When typing orders, post in the thread in the form of the following template:
ORDERS
<copypasted stats from page 1>
"Action 1". Cost: number of Power Points spent. What the action does.
"Action 2". Cost: number of Power Points spent. What the action does.
etc
You may of course use attached images if needed.
If you do not write in that format, I might not accept your orders or I might simply penalize you.
I will ignore conditional orders ("If the God of Fire burns the forest, then grow a new one") because I'm not very smart and it would cause me a headache to figure out.
Note that sometimes orders just don't go as planned. Most of the times, ideally, other people's actions will get in the way, while at other times, if I feel a particular distastrous outcome would be interesting, that might be what happens. Sometimes I might just be sadistic. But note that any sadism of mine will be indiscriminate and that I will still try my best to mod "fairly".
And yes, all orders are public, even those hostile to other players.
Tone and Stories
As you might have noted, the world began with an cataclysmic event killing off a Demon Turtle upon which the Earth rests. Yes, indeed what. I have arranged for this setting not to fall into the tone of completely clicheed high fantasy and Greek-elemental metaphysics. The world is darker and more cthonic than that, borrowing from assorted absurd cosmologies. And the setting has perhaps damned this world prematurely (it is placed upon a friqqin giant demon husk after all). I have not mentioned any Creator during the world's inception either; perhaps something darker is luring in the Great Below or outside in the Abyssal Space: Fun thing is, the player deities playing on Afaja's back, while potent, may be even smaller players in a giant theatric Cosmic Horror. I'm not sure yet myself.
Players may write stories as they please, but I'd be happy if they inspired themselves by the established prestory and the stories in the thread. I am a mod and have the power to remove or correct any submissions if I find they are too far from the setting. This means that I don't think a Hamtaro god would be proper and I will smite it from the thread faster than the speed of a thousand methaphysics.
The First Turn (and Joining Later)
The first turn will be special; no more than five gods will be birthed here. That means that I will restrict the first # of players to 5. Any submissions during the first turn will therefore be considered "applicants" to become one of the Primordial Pentagon. The more primordial or perhaps metaphysical of a feel your god has, the higher chance it has to become one of the Five. Still, be creative.
At the submission deadline, before I update, I will reveal the chosen players and arrange the rest in a joining queue, where the submissions will be allowed in in chronological order instead. I will then try to get approximately two players to join each turn.
Note, however: When joining, you are not allowed to choose where in the world you are put. That choice is made under my discretion.
