GR17 - AWE vs 30 civs

Hmm, I don't know where the three days since my got-it went. I've played two turns and part of a third, in which we've conquered the Korean lands, except for their two distant cities in the south, and made a good start against the Hittites. We should be able to average at least ten cities taken per turn from this point on. I hope to do most of the work against the Hittites and the Aztecs, essentially clearing the north of the continent, before posting on Wednesday or Thursday.

Probably not, or not in significant numbers, anyway. There may be a fair amount of RL playing time left in this game, but not many turns.

1888 (0): We clear out an Inuit camp held by two warriors in the former Greek lands (2-0).

Ten enemy units, five of them Hittite cav, die attacking Hold the Line 3 (12-0).

Twelve Korean units fall attacking Seoul, though only two of the many eligible riflemen participate (24-0).

Three Zulu units perish attacking our armies in Zululand (27-0).

1890 (1): We take Wonsan, held by four riflemen and a flak unit, with bombers doing most of the work (32-0).

We abandon Wonsan and found the tactical town of Ripken.

We take Pyongyang, held by a garrison of sixty-four: 26 riflemen, 12 guerrillas, 12 MDI, 8 pikemen, 4 LB, a swordsman, and a spearman (96-0). The job requires 23 armies, 82 artillery, and 45 bombers.

We take Cheju, held by two riflemen, a guerrilla, and a flak (100-0).

We bomb a Hittite cav landed next to Hempstead into oblivion (101-0).

Elsewhere we dispose of twelve miscellaneous enemy units, ten of them naval (113-0).

The transport we have wandering in the northern seas for some reason repels the attack of one Hittite ironclad, but is sunk by the next (114-1).

The AI civs make seven scattered attacks against our cities on the active continent, and the Zulus take two more shots against our armies (123-1).

Computers --> Miniaturization, due in seven turns.

Would we like to hold a UN vote? Uh, no, thanks. :mwaha:

1892 (2): We clear seven Korean and twelve Hittite units off our rail lines, losing an MA (140-2).

We abandon Cheju and found the tactical town of Murray.

We take Taejon, held by three riflemen and a guerrilla (144-2). We capture an artillery.

We take Chonju, held by three riflemen (147-2).

We take Paegam, held by four riflemen (151-2).

We abandon Pyongyang and found the tactical town of Palmer.

We take Pusan, held by four riflemen and three guerrillas, with bombers doing most of the work (158-2). We capture an artillery.

We take Namp'o, held by three riflemen and a guerrilla (162-2).

We abandon Namp'o and found the tactical town of Dempsey.

We storm the Korean capital of Pyongsong, held by four guerrillas and two riflemen (168-2). We capture two artillery and a worker.

We abandon Chonju and found the tactical town of McGregor.

We take Hyangsan, held by two guerrillas and two riflemen (172-2). We capture an artillery.

Our cav armies in Zululand strike down two pikemen of Umfolozi's garrison (174-2).

We abandon Paegam and found the tactical town of Boddicker.

We get started against the Hittites by seizing Karatepe, held by four inf (178-2).

We take Kummanni, held by five inf (183-2). We capture two cannon.

We take Ankuwa, held by five inf (188-2).

We abandon Pyongsong, Hyangsan, and Ripken, replacing them with three fill-in cities on our own continent: Flanagan, Davis, and D. Martinez.

Outside cities we smite sixteen enemy units, seven of them naval (204-2).

Fifty-three enemy units attack and perish, forty-seven of them at Hold The Line 2, where three Aztec horsemen attack an MA army :D (257-2). We gain a Great Leader on defense, and so our seventy-first [!] army.

1894 (3): We wipe out an Aztec stack of four landed next to Moscow (261-2).

We abandon Karatepe and found the tactical town of T. Martinez.

We take Manp'o, held by six riflemen, a guerrilla, and a pikeman (269-2). We capture two artillery and two workers. That's it for the Korean heartland, although they still have two formerly Ottoman cities far to the south. When the Ottomans were eliminated everyone on the continent, however distant, seems to have gotten a taste. The Ottoman carve-up is the only thing keeping the Greeks and the Koreans in the game, and soon that'll be true of the Aztecs as well.

We take (Aztec) Tamuin, held by four inf and a guerrilla (274-2).

We abandon Palmer and found the tactical town of Stewart.

We take Alaca Huyuk, held by three inf and a cav, and sink an ironclad in port (279-2).

We take Harran, held by three inf and a cav (283-2). We capture a cannon.

We abandon Ankuwa and found the tactical town of Stoddard.

We take Adana, held by four inf (287-2). We capture five cannon.

We take Alalah, held by three inf (290-2). We capture a worker.

We storm the Hittite capital of Hattusas, held by six inf (296-2). We capture a cannon and a worker.

We abandon Hattusas and found the tactical town of Nolan.

We take Kanesh, held by two inf (298-2). We capture a cannon.

We take Tyrana, held by three inf and a cav (302-2).

We abandon Tyrana and found the tactical town of Dauer.

We take Karhuyuk, held by three inf (305-2). We’ve been attacking the Hittite cities in an unusual order, because the timing of when we capture Samuha, on a forested peninsula in the far north, will determine when we eliminate the Hittites. Now we’ll be able to reach Samuha next turn.

We take Malatya, held by three inf and a cav (309-2).

We abandon Tamuin and found the town of Singleton, mostly to give us an air base in range of several Aztec cities. When the player is advancing quickly bombers lose half their turns to re-basing, which is one reason why I tend to prefer artillery.

We abandon Pusan and found the tactical town of Cruz.

We abandon Boddicker and found the tactical town of Sakata.

We take Yalburt, held by two inf (311-2). We capture a cannon.

We take Ugarit, held by four inf and a cav (316-2).

We abandon Malatya and found the tactical town of Bumbry.

We take Hubishna, held by three inf (319-2). We capture a cannon.

We take Kadesh, held by three inf and a cav (323-2). We capture an artillery.

We abandon McGregor, Dempsey, Murray, Taejon, and Kummanni, then replace them with the fill-in towns of Shelby, Lowenstein, Roenicke, Dwyer, and Ford on our own continent.

Outside cities we smite fourteen enemy units, twelve ground and two naval, gaining a Great Leader and so our seventy-second army (337-2).

One Zulu knight perishes attacking our cav armies in Zululand (338-2); otherwise, we face no enemy attacks beyond naval bombardment.

1896 (4): We abandon Stewart and found the tactical town of Ayala.

We seize Samuha, held by four inf (342-2).

We abandon Stoddard and found the tactical town of Landrum.

We take Aleppo, held by four inf (346-2).

We abandon T. Martinez and found the tactical town of Swaggerty.

We take Tarsus, held by four inf (350-2). We capture three workers and a cannon.

We take Ivriz, held by two inf (352-2). We capture a cannon.

We take Emar, held by six inf, losing an MA (358-3). We capture a cannon.

We abandon Kadesh and found the tactical town of Ramirez

We storm Hattusha, held by five inf, and eliminate the “Glorious Hittites” (363-3). We capture three cannon. Forty-nine Hittite combat units come off the map.

Turning our attention to the Aztecs, we take Atzcapotzalco, held by four inf (367-3). We capture an artillery and a cannon.

We take Ixtapaluca, held by four inf (371-3), with bombers doing all the work, but only after they waste a lot of effort destroying improvements and killing the population. IMO, the only reason for building bombers over artillery in Conquests is to pick off ships. The lethal bombardment isn’t that important in land attacks, if the player knows what he’s doing.

We abandon Atzcapotzalco and found the tactical town of Mirabella.

We take Cempoala, held by seven inf and seven guerrillas (385-3). We capture a cannon.

We abandon Cempoala and found the tactical town of Morogiello.

We take Tlacopan, held by four inf (389-3). We capture a cannon and an artillery.

We abandon Cruz and found the tactical town of Welchel.

We take Texcoco, held by four inf (393-3). We capture an artillery.

We take Tula, held by three inf (396-3). We capture an artillery.

We take Tlatelolco, held by four inf (400-3). We capture an artillery.

We take Teayo, held by three inf, and sink an ironclad on entering the city (404-3).

Outside cities we trample twenty enemy units (424-3)

We abandon twenty-two cities on the active continent, mostly so that we don’t have to garrison them: twelve Hittite, five Aztec, one Korean, and four of our own tactical towns. We then replace them with an equal number of fill-in cities on our home continent and the Babylonian island.

Thirteen Celtic knights, a Gallic, and a Celtic horseman attack our MA army in Teayo, a size-eleven hill town (439-3). The horseman actually does a point of damage.

We rout thirty-two attacking Chinese units at Hold the Line 3 (471-3).

1898 (5): We abandon Tlatelolco and found the tactical town of Primrose.

We storm the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, held by thirty-seven inf, five guerrillas, and a cav (514-3). We capture an artillery.

We abandon Ayala and found the tactical town of Quince.

We take Teotihuacan, held by six inf and a rifleman (521-3). We capture three workers and an artillery.

We take Calixtlahuaca after our bombers dispose of the garrison of four inf and a rifleman—very inefficiently, as usual (526-3). We capture an artillery.

We take Malinalco, held by four inf (530-3). We capture three artillery.

We take Xochicalco, held by four inf, and sink an ironclad when we enter the town (535-3).

We abandon Xochicalco and found the tactical town of Rhododendron.

We take Huexotla, held by three inf (538-3).

We take Tlalmanalco, held by three inf (541-3).

We abandon Swaggerty and found the tactical town of Sunflower.

We take Tlaxcala, held by five inf (546-3). We capture an artillery.

We abandon Calixtlahuaca and found the tactical town of Tulip.

We take Tzintzuntzen, held by three inf (549-3). We capture two artillery.

We take Chalco, held by three inf, and sink twelve assorted ships when we enter the town (564-3). We capture an artillery.

That completes our conquest of the Aztec heartland, although they retain three remote cities.

We abandon Chalco and found the tactical town of Upas.

We get started against the Mongols by taking Kazan, held by three riflemen (567-3). We capture a cannon.

We abandon Kazan and found the tactical town of Viburnum.

We take Ulanbaatar, held by three riflemen and a cav (571-3). We capture a cannon.

Outside cities we extirpate twenty-eight enemy land units and one naval unit (600-3).

We abandon fourteen cities on the active continent: eight Aztec, one Hittite, and five of our own tactical towns. We replace them all with fill-in cities on our own continent and the Babylonian island.

We land a reinforcement of two armies, one MA and one cav, on the Spanish/Zulu island. The armies are accompanied by a worker, so we’ll be able to build an air base on the island and start making progress there with spare units.

Forty-nine elite victories this round, two of them defensive, produced three Great Leaders.

We have a combat settler in position to give us access to Mandalgovi next turn. Despite the rough terrain, we should be able to take all the remaining Mongol cities in one turn (give or take Darhan) by using settler tricks where necessary. When we take Karakorum we'll have our eighth luxury.

As mentioned above, we have a worker (and a settler, if it proves useful) in neutral territory on the Spanish/Zulu island, so soon we'll be able to start airlifting units there. We still have two cav armies from an earlier invasion on the island, but they're fortified, so you'll need to look for them.

We have two transports, heavily escorted, twelve tiles NW of the Persian island, so whenever we feel we can spare some units from the main campaign we can load the transports up and dispose of Xerxes.

Some large stacks of slow enemy units are still zipping around on the rails, but it doesn't matter. We can abandon any city it seems too troublesome to hold. There's no reason to waste attacks which could be made against enemy cities on grinding down these stacks.

Our only remaining concern is that the English have a force of ninety-five cav, which might take a few cities if they attack en masse. I saw no sign of them this round.

Our reserve units on the active continent are mostly in New Hope, Seoul, and Singleton.

I've left various units with their movement to call attention to them, or to their stacks. In addition, I've left a fair number of bombers for the next player to re-base, depending on where he decides to attack next turn.

If we get the maximum out of every turn--I'm not suggesting that this is mandatory, of course ;)--we should be able to win this in ten turns at most.

Thank you. I'm glad this game is entertaining the lurkers.

 awesome progress...I like the before and after picture

I wonder whether this game will get back to me again, I doubt it actually

Excellent work NP. Your kill ratio was probably higher considering killing a civ kills all its units.

I think you will have a chance to play ThERat, but not have any troubles finishing up - I am assuming here that M60A3TTS and vmxa play 5 turns each. Otherwise you are probably right. 10 turns would take a very long time to play at this stage of the game.

Roster:
Greebley
NP - Just Played
M60A3TTS - Up
vmxa - On Deck
ThERat

With animations off and the workers locked down, it's not so bad. On turn 9 and will finish tomorrow. Spain, Zulu, Portugal and Sumeria remain.

Looks good. :goodjob: I assume the English were the most work; they had a lot of units.
