GR17 - AWE vs 30 civs

guys, I don't quite get what you are so concerned about...Yes, we did lose 1 infantry army for defense. I think we gained 15 armies in the killing zone. That's a fair trade off. In addition, we defeated the Greek, Persian and Hittites attack force and surely dented Portugese and Koreans.

In the meantime, Persia is down to 3 cities, Greece has lost 3 cities and almost their entire air fleet and we started in Korea.

The town was planted in such a way, that we could have always closed off more access with armies if really needed.

As for techs, Greece gained electronics during my turn, now they are fascist and are bleeding because we raze cities. Let's disconnect the oil source not too far away and they can't get tanks if they get that tech. Tanks are slow and we can easily take them out before they can attack any of our cities.

We are modern with fission done and rocketry researched next turn. We can then go for ecology and the bag modern armor. I would suggest to go for the lower tech path to gain some wonders. I don't see that game in danger at all, it's just a very big scale war of attrition now...fun actually
 
I don't think either of us was concerned, we're just having a philisophical running gun battle. All in good fun of course. ;)
 
Hey Im new 2 the civ forms & I read and saw how 2 play SG =) So since this is a newbies game can I jion =P I usually play Monarch but cant beat emperor easily. Thanks its ok if you dont need me

Yup we were just batting the breeze about something way before you even landed on the soil. Losing the army or not did not matter, I nealry lost it to a lot less than that.

Welcome to the forums, Tad. SG's can be a lot of fun to play.

I kind of liked going for Amphibious Warfare first and getting it and the Dutch out of the way before we headed to modern Armor. I really don't think it will slow us down by much to get modern armor a few turns later. Also wasn't Sun Tzu in a dutch town? If so eliminating the chance of a flip sooner is better. Not that either way makes much difference.

Who is running our navy training grounds ? They are worth nothing.
Lose a battleship on an iron clad
lose a destroyer on a frigate
lose a destroyer on a iron clad

get a leader and another army

put all *elite tanks in armies, modern armors are still way to go and we get leaders fast

let the slaughter begin, the Hittities will attack New Hope with quite a lot

I like the city Hilton in Jail btw.

IBT : the Hittites suicide 109 units on New Hope. In detail our armies dispose :

22 swords
13 longbows
37 MDIs
5 cavs
32 rifles

the next wave of Hittite MDIs, rifles, etc are arriving

2) 1862AD : raze Herakleia and Sparta, found two new towns

get a leader killing 46 Hittite rifles, 4 muskets and 3 pikes

man, this was not only one barb uprising. barbs are swarming through our lands, ransacking several towns.

4) 1866AD : it is sickening how bad our navy is doing. lose three destroyers on ironclads

barb hunting all over the place

after killing another 50+ units around New Hope the area there is clean and we have two more armies

raze Rhodes, Thermopylae
found two new towns

IBT : now that the path to New Hope is clear again, Alex sends all spare units that way.

5) 1868AD : major barb hunting

Kill another 40+ units at New Hope

raze Corinth, Argos and Thessalonica
found 1 new town

There is a big stack of Greek Guerillas on the way to New Hope, but our artillery and bombers should be able to cope with that. With TOWs in Alex cities our tank armies have a more difficult task to raze Greek cities, but there are only a few left.

I didn't know barbs ca have uprising when another Civ enters the MA, we were there already...funny really

Hopefully we can get rid of Greece soon and their painful ToW's

It takes two civs entering a new age to trigger the uprising, so I guess they were number two. I would have thought we had the mainland exposed to prevent camps by now. We were close last I checked.

I know the island had a good size chunk that was in fog. I was trying to patrol it to find the camps before they could send out anyone as we had a lot of empty towns.

You just do not see open space so late in normal games, so uprising seldom occur in IA or Modern ages. Probably would not if this was not AW. The AI would likely have the camps cleared at EMP or better.

That is the AI for you, it will send out most of its attackers and back them with defenders. If it was smarter, you would not be able to win at high levels and massive AW's.
 
I forgot to mention that we can settle two more towns, but beware there are still barbs running around. It costed me two settlers in position to settle when the uprisings happened.
 
I may use the barbs to get us to Elite safely - or at least until the Barbs run out that is. It means sending them over a turn later, but that extra HP might save them vs real units. I am talking tanks here as they get the double attack to become elite and can kill two barbs relatively easy.

Actually I farmed a lot elite tanks with the barbs. You will be able to send quite a bunch next turn. There should not be too many barbs left. The armies should be able to handle this now.

Impressive. :goodjob: It's never certain whether the AI will attack with rifles.
 
It is not certain, but they seem to do it if that is their top unit or if the stack as muskets or pikes in it.
 
I have played to 1880. Greece is down to one city way to the south - A final metropolis we cannot reach. Taking their cities was a tad expensive - we lost 3 (nearly healthy) Tank armies taking out TOW in their metropolises

My plan is to use the jungle to the south as a barrier. That will protect the towns from even cavalry. Once in place we can head north around the inland sea with our Armies. There are still a lot of units however north of the line so we will see. They were streaming toward our cities last IBT

We finally met the Celts when we settled next to them. They are the civ south of the Greek.

We just got Modern Armor - I updated all the tanks. I had 6 Empty armies so 6 Modern Armor Armies get their first moves this turn. (2 armies from before my turn start, 3 leaders, 1 because I put Copan back on producing Armies - and MM'ed it to size 19 and 100 shields = army every 4 turns).

I am hoping to play 10 turns total so will keep this game until Tues night. The game is at the fun part so I am using my full 5 days to play. :D

Do the cities we're attacking now have Civil Defense? If so, are we destroying the CD before attacking, or would that be too slow?

I don't think I'll be able to play on Wednesday or Thursday. So if you'd like to take until Friday morning, that would be fine with me.
