GR19- Genocide AWE vs 30 civs.

(and actually, I think the more realistic genocide variant would be where we don't declare war unless they try to contact us (we kill their diplomat), they enter our lands, or we attack them - why would we go out of our way to tell them we are at war with them? - but then it isn't fully AW anymore)

lurker's comment: If this game fails, you could try again making this change to the variant. And you're right about that- why would you declare war on them? That would constitute talking to them, and you're intolerant of foreigners, right?

I think we have too many contacts too early with open land. I don't think this is the norm for our games and it just happened to be pretty bad.
We also chose twice Civs with very late UU's. I think the combination of all that has contributed to the current situation.
A different start might turn out very different. I don't really fancy the new rule. we should stick to AW.

Gee, doesn't anyone else use this thread?

I'll be on vacation and sans Civ from Jan 5-Jan 12.

Guess you are up, Greebley

Lurker:

Immortals are only dangerous on attack, they have a defense of 2, so they can be killed.

Yes, I know, but we just have archers to counter them, so it is 50-50 attacking them. It is emperor, so Xerxes might send a bunch of them and we do not have many units to spare to fight them. IW might not help us that much as we do not have many hills/mountains in our land. Even if we have iron nearby we will have a rough ride to get it online with all the foreign units running around. It is already tough to track everything.

If we miss The Great Lib by 1 or 2 turns I will take the blame.

lurker's comment: Just get Math and build some freaking Catapults!

Preturn: Hurry the GLib as much as possible.

IBT: And it doesn't matter as it is built the very first IBT. We are going for FP instead. We simply started it too late.

30 BC: This is probably not winnable, but I am going to at least play until we find if we have Iron in 8 turns. Problem is that we won't get Cats in 8 turns.

IBT: Lose Spear

10 BC: Lose two Archers to Bowmen.

IBT: Another Spear Lost.

10 AD: Well that is bad. We Won 2 out of 11 Archer attacks vs Horses and lost 2 Archers. The other 7 were retreats. We were able to kill 2 of the retreats, but the rest would expose our Archers. 3 Babylon Swords are on our borders. Find I can attack 3 more Horse - 2 retreats and 1 win.
Whip walls in Edrine to get them in place before the Sword show up.

IBT: Lose a Spear and an Archer (2 hp horse got it). Get Pillaged.

30 AD: Lose a 5 HP Archer vs a 3 HP Sword. Can't attack much else. The Attackers are tending to go for our central cities

IBT: Another Spear Lost

50 AD: Another Archer lost getting a Bowman. Second Archer almost loses to same Bowman.

IBT: Cows Pillaged. We no longer have the units to cover them all. Ankara riots because all roaded squares now have a Horse on them so lose our Lux.

70 AD: Bingol built on Dyes Not quite connected yet.

IBT: Impi disonnects Denizli from the rest of our cities.

90 AD: We do not yet have Iron. There is some near Rouen as Predicted, but there is also some near the Dyes. We may be able to connect it soonish - not sure it is soon enough. It is also polluted by a Volcano.
We may lose Denizli. It has an Archer and Spear with 3 Attackers and can no longe be reinforced.
Lots of attacks on Edrine too.

IBT: Good grief, the Impi kills the Elite Spear in Denizli. Archer kills one of the attackers and the city falls.
Edrine holds but loses all 3 of its Spears - We get another Leader on defense.

110 AD: Edrine has 3 Spear again but so many enemies near it. Make a second Army

IBT: Unfortunately the French also target Edrine. This turns out to be fatal. They knock our units to 1 HP and then even the Babylon Spear attack to kill 2 1HP Spear.

Notes:
I stop here. If we built a Colony on the Iron would we get Swords even though it is Polluted? Two sword armies might save, but I am thinking we will still die without the GLib.

With no attack 3 units, no fast units to attack and get back into the city and no Cats we are just completely unable to deal with the large numbers of enemy troops. As markh stated, it would have been rough even getting the GLib. We simply started it too late I am afraid to save us. Too many AI are attacking us as well with many troops. Babylon's initial rush is killing us.

Vote: Do we want to play this out a bit more and see if the Sword Armies can save us or call it a loss?

RNG has been generally not good. This has cost us.

We lost the FP with Edrine.

The Save

lurker's comment: Play on. Your people will never give up their anti-foreign ways, even if it kills them!

I'd end this one as I don't think the armies can compensate for the poor terrain we're working with, cows aside. No rivers and little grass in the immediate area means poor commerce and growth and that is what has kill us.

I'd say either Greebley or myself re roll this game. I think I still have your custom file and could create a game, if you want. But I would switch off the barbs.

Did you go for random everything?

Lurker:

I do think it would be fun to play with the Ottoman, but one of the ways to get the GLIB at this level is to trigger a GA. You also almost have to have a river to allow for more than size six.

Hmm, it's too late here now to start, so if you can start this today, go ahead, Greebley.
Else, I will start tomorrow with those conditions

I agree--there's no point in persisting with this one. :(

lurker's comment: If you want an early GA, get a civ with a good Ancient UU, like the Gallic Sword, Mounted Warrior, or Immortal.

lurker's comment: When moving up a level, there's no shame in choosing a strong Civ with a quality UU. The 3 Chox mentioned are all top-tier. The Romans aren't bad either for an early powerhouse.

Lurker:
those civs are used all the time, we used Celts fairly recently as I recall. I think they are well known to all. You can win without them, just not under every condition.
