GR20 - Genocide AWE vs 30 Civs (try 2)

Can you explain that more fully? Are outposts Radar Towers?

lurker's comment:
I believe outposts are made available with Masonry, or some other early AA tech. Anyways, you can get them almost from the game start.

Oh, and similar to radar towers, a worker is "consumed" by building an outpost.

I think I remember them being C3C only as well or something like that.

Well the idiots at the repair shop found something else wrong after ordering the first part so now I have to wait for the second. markh, why don't you play as I am not likely to get the computer until Monday. I wish they had done a more complete check and not stopped at the first issue.

lurker's comment: Outposts? They appeared in PTW too. ;)

Lurker:

Yes outpost came in PTW. Armies are not going to be able to get the job done in PTW in a games like these. Not only that but, with the leaders being able to build wonders, you could get a lot of help as you would have many leaders to use.

Sorry, I did not have the time to play over the weekend. Should I take it now ? I would be able to start playing tomorrow.

Preturn: Things look good.

IBT: Get Astronomy and start Physics.

1330 AD: Raze Trondheim.
Physics in 5 at a slight deficit.

IBT: Lose Gold cost when a Berserker goes into it.
Lose a mismoved cav.
Get Mil Acad.

1335 AD: Gold Coast Berserk gets us a Leader when it dies(army).
Lauwersoog (Dutch) razed.
Copenhagen (Viking) razed.

1340 AD:
Haarlem (Dutch) razed.
Nearly lose an Army attacking Hamburg.

1345 AD: An army healing turn as most armies are injured. A few attacks on cities.

1350 AD: And more healing... Killing off the wave of English is under way in earnest.

1355 AD: Finally take out Berlin.
Risor (Viking) is Razed
Ta-Tu(English) is gone as well.

1360 AD:
Birka and Odense(Viking) are Razed.
Harlington and Arnhem (Dutch) are Razed.

1365 AD:
Stravenger (Viking) Razed.
The Hague (Dutch) Razed.
Attacking Hamburg again. We are having poor luck with this particular city as each attack takes the armies down 8+ HP (It was the city that nearly killed an army earlier).

While exploring the shores of an empty island we spot Greece. Declare War.

1370 AD:
Oslo (Viking) Razed. A town just built becomes the capitol Vikings are likely down to one city.
Maasricht (Dutch) Razed. Our attack on Holwerd damages 2 Armies so they need to heal up again.
Dortmund (Germany) Razed.

IBT: Iroquois contact us. I declare war. Mayans too.
Magellan's is completed. Also spot an Iroquois ship - probably with a settler for all that free land on our continent. Actually a town just appeared on our continent - they had already landed.

1375 AD:
Fauske (Viking) Razed, but Vikings live. Check on it and find a new Viking city that must have been built in the IBT.
Get a Leader on one of the last battles.

Notes:
Much effort went into getting the enemy units in the mountains out of the way so I could set up the front line. Hopefully the next player should have much less issues with units in mountains.

Many settlers are arriving at the front line. It takes so long to move anything to the front as I am sure you all know.

I wasn't feeling my best playing this. A few more losses than my normal play.

Just a comment but it might have been stronger to not split the Armies so much. Solo Armies can take fewer risks. Some time went to grouping the Armies a bit more.

When the Vikings go there will be many coastal units freed up (the whole west coast).

I made some pictures:

The Save

One final point. I purposefully did not put the 4th unit into the Cav armies. To do so would slow down the win. We don't need help with our continent, but will want to be sending them across the seas.

Roster:
Greebley - Just Played
ThERat - (swap)
markh - Up
M60A3TTS - On Deck
Northern Pike - away until March

Don't think we will finish before NP gets back :D

Sorry, I cannot take it. I changed my internet provider, but the new connection doesn't work, yet, so I have no internet at home. They said it will take a week until they can get me online again, therefore I need to be skipped until I have a connection at home again.:(

Yes, I should be able to play in my normal roster slot after M60, or after Mark as well if he regains Net access soon.

great progress :goodjob:

next we need to look for other continents...always the bit draggy part of the game

Preturn- Looks fine

IBT- A few AI units looking for a place to go. Magnetism in. ToG in 4.

1380AD (1) Knight Army comes across stack of 4 spears, 3 zerks and a settler. Kills 3 spears with the help of a second knight army. 1st Knight Army razes Nuremburg with 2 defenders. Cav Army kill 2 defenders and Leiden is gone. Knight army destroys Iro coastal town of Onnontare. Switch over a lot of coastal town builds to frigates and galleons. Kill 2 mercs and Holwerd is gone. Checked F4 and found the Celts hadn’t understood how we felt about them. Declare.

IBT- Lose a cav and A-cav to Dutch knights.

1385AD (2) Knight Army kills Vike settler pair and town of Karistad. The Vikings are destroyed. :)

Send our first frigate sailing east. Onnontare has reappeared on our continent. MI army makes it disappear again. Knight army kills 2 mercs and Utrecht is razed.

IBT- Some English knights move in the south, Dutch galleys mill about. No combat.

1390AD (3) Kill 2 muskets and Frankfurt is gone. Kill English and Dutch settler pair.

IBT- English knights a bit more numerous now. German LB dies attacking forted cav in hills.

1395AD (4) Frigate sees the outline of the Greek coast. 3 defenders killed and Cologne burns. Do the same to Bremen. Kill 2 defenders at Heidelburg which is now their capital, spear showing. So they should be gone next turn.

IBT- More AI stuff. Iros land a couple settlers. ToG in, but we draw medicine. Steam in 9.

1400AD (5) Destroy Heidelburg, but the Germans still live. Kill 3 mercs and Amsterdam goes. Cav army kills one defender and Den Helder is gone. Destoy Hilversum and their 2 defenders. Kill a couple Iro settler pairs. Knight army finds Brandenburg in the desert. Not enough movement to attack this turn. Cav army gets redlined attacking Rotterdam. Greek border turned out to be a 2-tile island. Continue sailing east.

IBT- English kill redlined army at Rotterdam  , Dutch knight kills a cav.

1405AD (6) Kill German settler pair and spear at Brandenburg.

IBT- Still seems to be quite a few knights out there…

1410AD (7) Kill 2 defenders and English town of Middelburg is gone. Kill Dutch settler pair.

Destroy Brandenburg for 72 gold. The Solid Germans are kaput. :)

Destroy assorted fast movers to thin out the herd. Vector in armies to cover the roads leading out of the Dutch/English lands.

IBT- Iro caravel sinks our frigate clean.

1415AD (8) Kill 3 English defenders and Bath is cleaned out.

IBT- Iro caravel sinks another frigate. What are the odds of that?

1420AD (9) I try attacking a Dutch galley with a caravel and lose it. I think the odds are stacked in favor of the AI in naval warfare. Send out a privateer that I built. Well the frigates haven’t worked out!

IBT- Lose a lone cav to a knight

1425AD (10) Kill knight and get MGL. See the Iroquois finally got Onnontare built next to Troy on the island to our east. Kill a few assorted units after losing another cav. All these mountains is like fighting in the Himalayas. Steam in 4 and done.

Post-turn: The old German and Vike lands are fully clear. There are 5 healed armies that have been guarding the coast. Settlers are moving up in that area. I’ve been gradually moving workers towards Fort Ticonderoga and Fort Dix so we can start work on the Trans-Sumerian Railroad when steam comes in. Dutch and English still have a pretty decent ability to send packs of 2-3 knights, but we’re gradually putting a choke hold on the area. If we can stop losing frigates, maybe we can figure out where the next continent is. I have a feeling the closest crossing point may be in the far southwest where the healed armies are.

Fine, I've got it.

My inclination is to detour to Industrialization after we discover Steam Power, since I can't picture our being beaten to ToE, and this is a good time to build factories as the demands on our military aren't great. Does anyone see this as risky?

Agree with that.

The technician of my new provider will come next week Monday, so I should be able to play again from 10th March only. :(

OK, I'll post in time for Mark to play on Monday. I've had a crazy week so far and have made very little progress, so it would be unrealistic to promise anything better.
