Grammar, Style and the Colopedia

The English text is done for New_Founding_Fathers. It would be good to check the Strategy section during the German translation to be sure I included the correct bonuses for each founding father.

Next I'll get started on CIV4GameText_WTP_New_Professions. There are a hundred and each needs a strategy.

The only main one after that is CIV4GameText_WTP_New_Yields. The are a few changes in the text files prefixed XML but that looks more like maintenance than a full job.

In other words, the Colopedia work is on schedule for the planned release.

I'm planning to translate the mod to Hungarian language. Can you tell me plese, which language files need to be translated and which are not in use anymore, thus the tranlsation is unnessesary? (e.g. the mod doesn't use it or anether file is used instead). I've been made some test translation with 3.0.1 but without success (I tried to translate CIV4GameTextInfos_Original_utf8.xml file)
Thanks

I'm planning to translate the mod to Hungarian language.
Sounds great.
Can you tell me plese, which language files need to be translated
Wait, I think I need to figure it out again as well ...

1. The language needs to be activated for the mod

Go to:
\Assets\XML\Interface

There open this file:
Languages.xml

Change this here:

<Languages xmlns="x-schema:LanguageSchema.xml"> <Language>English</Language> <Language>French</Language> <Language>German</Language> </Languages>

Into this here:
<Languages xmlns="x-schema:LanguageSchema.xml"> <Language>English</Language> <Language>French</Language> <Language>German</Language> <Language>Hungarian</Language> </Languages>

Also you need to create this here:
(Of course translate the word "Hungarian" correctly into all languages.)

Open this file here and add the entry.
CIV4GameTextInfos_Original_utf8.xml
<TEXT> <Tag>TXT_KEY_LANGUAGE_5</Tag> <English>Hungarian</English> <French>Hungarian</French> <German>Hungarian</German> <Italian>Hungarian</Italian> <Spanish>Hungarian</Spanish> <Hungarian>Hungarian</Hungarian> </TEXT>

2. Now you can use the "Hungarian" tag to create new language entries

e.g. You could try this entry here:
<TEXT> <Tag>TXT_KEY_PROFESSION_BLACKSMITH</Tag> <English> <Text>Toolsmith:Toolsmiths</Text> <Gender>Male</Gender> <Plural>0:1</Plural> </English> <French> <Text>Forgeron:Forgerons</Text> <Gender>Male</Gender> <Plural>0:1</Plural> </French> <German> <Text>Werkzeugschmied:Werkzeugschmiede</Text> <Gender>Male</Gender> <Plural>0:1</Plural> </German> <Italian> <Text>Fabbro:Fabbri</Text> <Gender>Male</Gender> <Plural>0:1</Plural> </Italian> <Spanish> <Text>Herrero:Herreros</Text> <Gender>Male</Gender> <Plural>0:1</Plural> </Spanish> <Hungarian> <Text>kovacs:kovacs</Text> <Gender>Male</Gender> <Plural>0:1</Plural> </Hungarian> </TEXT>

4. Go ingame, select Hungarian (in Options, Languages) and test if it worked

Honestly I have never tried this myself.
But if I understand the language engine correctly this should work.

By the way, I don’t know what will happen with Hungarian, but when I tried to add the Russian language (as Ray wrote), two years ago I was faced with the fact that the fourth language turned out to be Spanish. but when it was selected, Russian was activated)

I was faced with the fact that the fourth language turned out to be Spanish
Spanish is actually the 5th language, since it starts counting with 0.
With what I wrote above Hungarian should be added as 6th language after Spanish.

But we need to give it a try. :dunno:

I've tried to make what you suggested, but unfortunately without success. The Hungarian language didn't pop up in the menu.
So I tried to translate the english texts directly (between the <English> and </English> markers) with success: The XML_AUTO_UTF8_BonusInfo.xml file easly can be translated.

I've made some more tests and it seems that my first chosen file (CIV4GameTextInfos_Original_utf8.xml) is quite specific, cos it gives xml error during load, but the mod starts anyway.
I don't know what might be the reason of the error. Maybe is it just a reference xml and doesn't need to translate? (version 3.0.1)

Let me check it. Normally it should work.
So I tried to translate the english texts directly
But that does not help us, we could never properly maintain it that way. :nope:
it gives xml error during load, but the mod starts anyway.
That is normal in text XMLs that errors may still allows to start.
I don't know what might be the reason of the error
It could e.g. be special characters that are not UTF8 and thus not allowed.

I was successful activating Hungarian as well. :)

But I had to activate all other core languages of the game before additionally.
(Otherwise it would show "Hungarian" as "Italian" - similar to what @Mr. ZorG had reported.)

----

Go to:
\Assets\XML\Interface

There open this file:
Languages.xml

Change this here:

<Languages xmlns="x-schema:LanguageSchema.xml"> <Language>English</Language> <Language>French</Language> <Language>German</Language> </Languages>

Into this here:
<Languages xmlns="x-schema:LanguageSchema.xml"> <Language>English</Language> <Language>French</Language> <Language>German</Language> <Language>Italian</Language> <Language>Spanish</Language> <Language>Hungarian</Language> </Languages>

-----

Also you need to create this here if you have not already:
(Of course translate the word "Hungarian" correctly into all languages.)

Open this file here and add the entry.
CIV4GameTextInfos_Original_utf8.xml
<TEXT> <Tag>TXT_KEY_LANGUAGE_5</Tag> <English>Hungarian</English> <French>Hungarian</French> <German>Hungarian</German> <Italian>Hungarian</Italian> <Spanish>Hungarian</Spanish> <Hungarian>Hungarian</Hungarian> </TEXT>

-----

Now you should be able to use the "Hungarian" tag to create new translation entries.
Try a first one please to see if it works. (e.g. the name of a Profession.)

If it does not work, please post the XML entry with your translation here so I can check what went wrong. :)
(Most likely it is then something with accents or special characters being not compatible with UTF8 - which happens easily when copying from the internet.)

@raystuttgart , I did as you wrote. Yes, there is a complete list of languages. however, during the switch, a sign appeared with a txt tag for which there is no description. it doesn't exist at all. the specified tag is present only in CvGameCoreDLL.pdb. if you tell me where it should be located (such tags are found in the CIV4GameText_RaR_Release2_utf8.xml file. but creating a new tag in this file did nothing.), I will add the text.

@Mr. ZorG
I can switch to Hungarian without issues and the TXT_KEY also seems to exist in the mod.

<TEXT> <Tag>TXT_KEY_NEW_LANGUAGE_RESTART_REQUIRED</Tag> <English>You must restart the game for the changes to take effect.</English> <French>Aucun changement</French> <German>Keine Änderung</German> <Italian>Nessun cambiamento</Italian> <Spanish>Sin cambios</Spanish> <Russian>You must restart the game for the changes to take effect.</Russian> </TEXT>

I repeat again - I have a Steam version of the game and this is the English version.

By the way, you don't need to restart the game. Exiting to the main menu applies the changes.

I repeat again - I have a Steam version of the game and this is the English version.
All I can tell you is that it works for me and that I even found the TXT_KEY now in the mod.
It is in: CIV4GameText_RaR_Release2_utf8.xml

For some reason it seems to be a TXT_KEY of the mod.
(I did not find it in the base game although it really should be ...)

I added this tag today (when I was testing adding a language)) and this inscription too) you have this inscription, because I sent you this file today)))
others will not find this tag in their files.

upd. but instead of an inscription in Russian, two words appear - from two and from three letters. but this is not important yet. we still need to separate languages into separate folders.

It also worked perfectly fine however in the past when I was switching between English and German.
(I also used to get the exactly same message as I did right now.)
