Greecemod: Not a Byzwank, Promise (EU4 althist mod creation/discussion thread)

Speaking with SouthernKing in the chat gave me these new ideas which he told me to post here.
The first was a reformation for Islam. At first, I thought about having it be a definite division between the Muzatilite school of Sunni thought and the Ashari one.
Then, I thought of having it happen when the muslims conquer a hellenic state in the HRE like Athens. SE threw back the idea of a Roman - centric Muslim reformation.
Also, regarding the jewish states, an event could happen named " The coming of the Messiah ". Either you accept him and you get a 6/6/6 ruler or you refuse and a revolt breaks out leaded by him.

Also, Hellenic nation in Cuba Atlantis

Messiah choice needs to have a viable counterchoice. why would you have a revolt when you just get a wtfbbq ruler?
The choice is unbalanced, and there either needs to be a Messianic "heresy" for Jews (with CB's for non-Messianic powers to reinstall normal Judaism) or some other penalties associated with a 6/6/6.

I thought of it, but I could not think of the penalties as I have not played EU4 extensively to know what can and can't be done.

DO they have a Scythia flag, and if so, can you post it? :mischief:

There's no Scythia per se but there's quite a few Scythian tribes, I don't remember what they all are.

---

Anyway, I'm calling this one Alpha 0.002:
-Mainland Iberia done; the starting setup is there, plus a Basque revolter recycling NAV's tag, Vasconia (Basques are eternal), as well as the union of Hispania, which recycles the old SPA tag.
-Rome tag added; I figure this could be used as a decision for either Italya or SPQR if/when they reunite the peninsula, or perhaps another state that happens to gain control of Rome plus a few other places. (Italia should have more revolters as well IMO but this isn't urgent.)
-Italy now has an "Arab-Latin" culture in OTL Piedmont that partly extends into France.
It was mostly done yesterday actually but my Internet kept dying on me.

Also, I found out today that prematurely deleting country tags from the game may cause the game to crash while Loading Events. Yay for 30 minutes spent trying to figure out why that happened.

I've also included the (still-unmodified) province names localisation file in the mod so if someone wants to do anything with that, please go ahead and do so! Or you could even post them here and I can add them. Use the labelled province ID map for reference if you need it.

Hmm, I wonder if you could give the Easternmost Lusitanyan province to Citerior. The current borders are pre-AoW, and that would have made them terrible, but now I think its actually acceptable.

Question: What language are the French using? Arabic? French? German? Mixture of all three?

Question: What language are the French using? Arabic? French? German? Mixture of all three?

My guess is that Francia/Frankreich/whateverthehell is probably using German, while France itself is probably a weird mix of Arabic, Latin, and Celtic. it's really up to you.

Edit: This is probably a bit late but after musing over it a little I must say that I really, really like the idea of an Ashari/Mutazilite split reformation thing. I suggest maybe having the Islamic world start out Ashari (especially if they're in the jihadist mentality with Mecca and Medina under Christian control) and with the influence of Hellenic culture a Mutazilite (or otherwise more humanist/rationalist) branch could arise somewhere close to Greece (Rome or Egypt maybe) via events.

Maybe Muslim states that convert to the Mutazilite branch could get a tech boost or get shifted to a higher tech group, while Asharis get some nice morale and discipline bonuses?

Okay, I've just realized that there are a bunch of people who have never used GitHub or an SVN before working with an SVN. Here's some quick tips:

1) Make sure that you are editing the most up-to-date version possible. This is the most important part as working on an out-of-date version of something is just bad news trust me. Also the work that you have done might have been done by someone us.

2) Upload often. At the very least you should be uploading your committed version every time you go "I've done enough modding for today" and stop modding. Even if what you are doing is not complete. This is a way to avoid conflicts (a.k.a when two uploads are different). I'm not 100% sure how GitHub works with conflicts but it is almost always a nightmare merging them.

3) Coordinate with your fellow modders. This isn't always possible, but at least try. This can stop things where two people work on the same thing and waste a bunch of time.

4) The most important thing to keep in mind is that it doesn't matter if you do something stupid and break everything. The worst case scenario 99% of time is that we have to go back to an older revision and that really isn't that bad.

So yeah have fun modding people!

Also, this deserves to have it's own post.

Before you start modding, make sure you have access to the GitHub account! It will save a lot of time and effort for everyone, trust me. If you've already started modding already it's not the end of the world, but if you haven't then just wait it will make things easier and save you precious time.

That's...not actually a flag but it's what the game uses and imo it sorta looks cool.
