It must be someone in politics, as that is the only way to explain Belgium (Brussels, EU).

Number of visits Ratzinger has made to a country as Pope or at a lower position?

Places Angela Merkel has visited?

Ah Dear God, 4 freaking minutes after my clue. I really should have gone with

Link to video.

Would that have been more difficult? ;) But yeah, the map shows number of foreign state visits by Angela Merkel since she became German Chancellor. Data is from wiki (available in German and Spanish - God knows why).

The interesting thing of the map is that it quite clearly shows that France is the most important partner of Germany and it's with these two countries that the music plays. And Poland does rank higher than expected, higher than any of the neighbouring countries and around the same as the big ones (Russia, USA), and also as the cranky "leave-me-alone"-kid otherwise known as England.

As have been pointed out, the data for Belgium is polluted by EU-missions, other countries affected are Switzerland (World Economic Forum), Italy (two visits to the Pope on Italian soil + detour because of Icelandic Volcano apparently counts as "visit") and every country that once held a G8 (7, 20, 21 or whatever)-meeting.

Hoplitejoe, you're up!

Map should be up some time tomorrow.
