Not all kinds of deception. Its part of "Your rights end where mine begin." Obviously deception which leads to someone's death is illegal. In this case, I also think it should be ILLEGAL. Not in all cases of deception, but the ones that can actually cause permanent harm to people.

If you sleep with someone within a few minutes of meeting them you are doing it for sexual pleasure not with the aim of having a long term relationship.

Most people are aware that people do not always tell the truth in such situations.
If the blind women is willing to have a one night stand or bunk up in an office in the middle of the day within minutes of meeting the black man then she is not giving herself any time to find out about the man.

I assume that the blind women was of sound mind and was not drunk because it was midday.

Where did she lie to the court? If she did she should get punished too.

I also never endorsed the sentence they gave, and said it was probably too high. I just said there should be some sort of punishment. Also, I oppose prison, so how can I support this sentence?

(Seriously though I was saying the sentence should be less, my opposition to prisons have nothing to do with it.)

I think we can alll agree the punishment is far too harsh. However, it is a law founded on principles. It exists to give protection but as an unintended consequence of the ambiguity of 'deception,' cases like this arise.

In the latter case I think lying about your age in order to be able to get sex should be illegal in the first place. If he didn't ask and assumed she was under thirty, its his own fault.

I agree, since he didn't say he was white, "Deception" doesn't apply there.

If he said he was looking for a long term relationship, maybe he should be punished, if not then the woman's got no leg to stand on.

The thing is, the Arabs have the rest of the Middle East, the Israelites want them OUT OF THEIR LAND. I don't necessarily blame then. I'll have to ask some pro-Israel people though to get a balanced prospective. I really don't know much about the subject.
