Handy 18 AWD small - Celts

I like the pillaging army idea. Handy wanted to do that last game, but we couldn't get it done. So we'll need some galleys.

Will get on this tomorrow night: too many  s with my nephews on the beach today.

Got Chivalry and Theology from the Great Library.

Lost one mace but killed 16 Egyptians and 3 English and two Portugese, mostly Longbows, so the flood of archers has turned into a trickle.

The Egyptians have waht appears to be an unconnected iron source outside of Mendes to the NE of Ratpurdum.

Built a galley and started out to explore the western tip.

Founded Glanum but it grew just before the MP got there so it rioted.

There is a settler on the hill NW of Ratpurdum covered by the Gallic armies and a host of maces and some trebs. The Egyptian workers built us a nice road that will take us right into the heart of Egpyt.

looking at the map, Bursiris and Cahun are in prefect spots to keep them. Do we think it's worth kepping them?

Again, please make sure, Egypt does not hook up the iron, spears are so much easier to fight than pikes.

Suggest to go after those 3 towns mentioned and settle north

I had a look at the save, some comments

I would send out the MDI's at choke point to take out that Babs town, we can cover them with a pike.

There are 2 armies covering the settler, this is such a waste, I would send one army immediately before the IT towards the iron at Mendes before the Egyptian are able to connect the iron, even 1 turn for them with iron and we face a much tougher opposition.

In my mind we have tp play this aggressive otherwise they will later on overwhelm us.

And there is still a LB near our capital, take it out

Agree with Rat, we need to capture those egyptian towns (i'll check MapStat for flip risk, but i think it's low, cause the egyptian captial is far away). I'll try to disconnect egyptian iron ASAP.

I also think that a pillaing army on the other continent is a must, from my not so great AW experience i found that you should start pillaging early to prevent AI from getting bombers. The civs on the other continent shoul be more advanced, since they are not fighting. Maybe we should keep a spare an army loaded with one GS waiting for the galley to find the other continent. We're not militaristic, so i don't expect that many leaders and we may have to wait a long time after we finally find other land.

I'll play today evening.

Recommend we place pikes in the "other continent pillaing army". A pike (or better yet musket) army won't be attacked for a long time. Cav might attack a GS army. We won't need this army to attack anything but the AI's improved tiles.

I would settle another city on the city ruins on the southern tundra. It is directly by the flashing blue button in Bede's picture. More Unit support is a very good thing.

I opened the save, but i decided i really need some sleep, so i'll play tomorrow (if anybody wants to play now we can swap).

A few suggestions about the current situation:
Well, i might sound too gotmish :), but we really have too many defensive units in my opinion - i'd better switch pikes to knights and MDIs. Also we have some units in towns as MP - maybe we should let them go to egypt and raise the lux slider instead, we have the GL anyway. And the egyptians have 2 luxes just outside our border. I'd leave some offensice units and some pikes to defend the coast and push all others to the egyptian front.

Agree, i've seen cavalry attack GS armies. But we may put knights into the army to make it faster. But lets get another leader first :)

just be careful about the home defense, Portugese/Babs and English will land units behind the lines. Do not send everything forward.
But I agree a more aggressive play is needed, more towns on those luxes. And as mentioned, send out that GS army to pillage iron (maybe it's not connected yet?).

By the way, the time of GS is over, now its MDI, so I agree with a pike army for pillaging.

We also have to find a way to get salt, we need Cav's for survival.

OK, as we have discussed it, i'll send more units to the front and try not to screw the coast defense up. Since i don't like attacking with both knights and MDIs (MDIs slow the knights down), and we have many MDIs on the egyptian front, i'll let the knights defend the coast from landings.

pre-turn
- kill portuguese LB near Lugdunum
- Reorganized builds: MDIs instead of pikes, workers (we have only 20.5) and settlers in 1 spt cities.
- sent more MDIs and some pikes to the egyptian front
- lux raised to avoid riots (MP moved away)

IBT
- our galley is sunk by portuguese galley
- english complete Sistine Chapel

260
- I divide our main forces, armies go straight for the iron and silks, MDIs supported with some trebs and pikes go for the nearest city (Busiris).

IBT
- portuguese attack our brand new galley, this time we win.

270
- Our armies are near Mendes. The iron is already connected, but Mendes is defended by regular spears. Cleo only has 2 gold in her treasury, so we are safe from pikes if they don't have any more iron sources.
- Our MDIs and treps are near Busiris, also defended by regular spears.
- Galley sails home, it is down to 2 hp and many enemy galleys around.

IBT
- Portuguese land LB

280
- Our armies capture Mendes and 6 slaves to connect the silks.
- Cleo doesn't have any more iron connected, but she has saltpeter (and knows gunpowder).

IBT
- GL gets us Education and becomes obsolete, but we are lucky to get Astronomy too.

290
- Shifting forces, try to gather some MDIs to attack Athibis and Kahun.
- I tried to argainize our economy for self-research, chemistry takes us 21 turns at -21gpt, so i ordered libs in Lugdunum and Entremont.

IBT
- portuguese land another LB for us to kill

300
- Loose elite GS and elite MDI to the same reg LB to promote him to veteran :( another elite MDI finally kills the evil LB, but no leader again (i already killed many LBs with elites).
- Our armies advance advance on Kahun and Athibis.

IBT
- Babylonians land an LB

310
- Capture Kahun and Athibis, still no leaders, i even killed a redlined (by the trebs) LB with elite pike.

IBT
- loose 1 pike, but kill 2 LBs
- egyptians settle on the ruins in southern tundra

320
- clear egyptian settlement in tundra
- settled a town between captured egyptian towns to fill the gap in CxxC
- we built a caravell, and i sent it out to explore, should be safer then the galley.

IBT
- too bad, our caravell is sunk by a galley!

330
- continue with the offense, and see salt near Asyut!

340
- move forces to Asyut, Hieraconpolis and Buto.
- silks are now online, and we can lower the lux slider.

350
- Capture the 3 egyptian towns and saltpeter.
- One of the armies moves forward to get a better view and sees second egyptian saltpeter source! We can pillage it next turn.

Note: the newly captured cities are closer to the capital and some are under cultural pressure, so we may want to disband them. However i don't expect the egyptians to last much longer, so i vote for keeping them.

It looks like we will need a dotmap now of the new lands. I see that we can plop down another 4-6 cities already.
Plus with the AI insistance of settling the tundra town, I will bet a dollar that it has a resource.

Obormot, :goodjob: and I am very happy to see that we have salt on our homeland

Egypt has 10 towns left, so maybe we could keep towns and simply station units next to them in case they flip. We should be able to mop them up pretty fast, too bad we got no leaders to send over a pillager army.

Roster
Greebley
Handy
Bugs
Rat
Bede
Obormot - just played
Romeo - up
Matt - on deck

Breakout achieved. Nice work Obormot!

A fourth lux and salt in the crosshairs and the Pyramids waiting for us in Thebes. :scan:

This is looking real good. :D
