I am just wondering what everyone thinks of the book, the wizard, and the writer?

I think that the book is just another childrens' book. I think the author has gone way overboard with merchandising. I think that the religious people who complain that it is corrupting the children have way too much time on their hands. There is plenty wrong with the world, but Harry Potter isn't it. Admittedly, I never read the series, though. I have only seen the movie and spoken with my mom, who has read the books.

Congratulations, little boy. You have been the first to activate my new word detector software, which alerts me anytime "Harry Potter", or various other words are mentioned on the Internet, or in any number of houses bugged by the Gestapo. :D

In answer: One has read all the books, and loved them, except for the clumsy introduction of Harry's burgeoning love interest in that Chong girl in the latter books.
One has seen the film many a time, and to say that one loved it would be an underestimation on a par with saying that Mr. Hitler didn't quite take a shine to the Jews.:D
As to the wizard, one is unsure as to whether ye mean the character, or the actor. One likes both, to say the least. ;)
The writer is a good writer for her target market and genre.

I must admit that I haven't read the books and probably won't. My nephew is very keen on Mr Potter & Friends.

The movie left me feeling as if something was missing, for me it didn't live up to the hype. My nephew loved it though.

You forgot to mention that she is also a depressed woman.

Imo, harry potter is overrated.
:p

Well, everyone has problems. It just so happens that J.K. Rowling has girl germs, and that common sexually transmitted disease - a child. :p

And you will have plenty of time to rethink your rash silly comments during your indefinite sentence in the gulag. Where, between weekly gruel and hourly beatings, ye shall spend your every waking hour making Harry Potter action figures and other merchandise. :mwaha:

I haven't read the books, neither have I seen the film, and nor do I have much desire to do so. Whenever something 'sweeps' the country, I do my best to avoid it completely. (Repeat for Big Brother, Pop Stars/Idol, David Beckham, etc). All those things are usually utter tripe.

At least this involves reading, I suppose. As opposed to watching idiots being stupid on the TV. :D

Well maybe it's because Harry Potter is meant for children! ;)

A reminder: All those bad-mouthing Harry will be bought to account one day soon. :satan:
Unlike other little crazes, this one has the approval of the Evil One.
It has the children reading, rather than running about causing trouble with all their Charleston dancing, jazz music, and those newfangled moving pictures. No good will come of such unseemly behaviour, I tell you!
They should take after Eric Liddell and Harry Potter much more!

Like Pillager, I retreat from big waves. I'll read the book later, when my son might get into it - if it's still in print then.

Oh it will be. In copious availability. With a foreward by the Reichsprotektor of the North American continent, and Minister for Women and Other Alien Races in the global fascist dictatorship, His Grace Knowltok 2.

In some cases, and they are admittedly few in comparison to the tripe, the crazes happen because the things they promote are actually worthwhile - Beatlemania, Harry Pottermania, Darkshade mania. (Every child will want a shadowy plastic action figure that, when you press its back, exclaims, 'Take him outside and shoot him!' :D)

Yes, the impression I have is that Harry Potter may be one of the crazes that is actually worthwhile. I do, however, have dozens and dozens of books that I own and have not yet read, so I won't be delving into Quidditch and the like.

Harry Potter is just a kids version of what i already read. I would i want to read about a little kid wizard when i ain't a little kid. No Harry Potter is the kids Fantasy. I will stick with Modesitt and Stasheff for my good Fantasy.

I am planning on reading the books BEFORE seeing the movie/movies (#2 comes out in November)... Now, I wouldn't have given it a first thought, except that 3 different people who I for the most part respect have told me I should read the books. 'Not just for kids' and 'Adults will like them too' were bandied around. And these people are adults. I do not often have conversations concerning books and the reviews thereof with children. :D

As for waves, it is true that the masses are quenched with idiocy and mindless frivolity. But as was previously stated, some waves have substance. Take LOTR for instance. The books are classics, but how many people have just recently been introduced to the series by the release of the movie. Anyone saying that LOTR is a fad and they are staying as far away as possibe?

Harry Potter movies.
A well written interesting story line of books.
Now being "merchandized" like so many others.

What is kids stuff? A lot of it is old adult stuff
that is classic or exceptionally well written
children's fare than becomes adult when the
hidden meanings are found (Alice in Wonderland)

1. Wind in the Willows
2. Treasure Island
3. Kidnapped
4. Robinson Crusoe
5. Little House series

If they are looking for a mysterious dark villain for any of the subsequent films, then one would be a perfect choice for such a role. :satan:
And to be written into the books as Harry's evil older special friend :mwaha: :satan: ;)

Now that would be about the only thing that could make them better. :D

Count me in as another adult who loved the books. The movie's not bad either. As for "waves" sweeping the country, that is the main reason I hesitated to read them in the first place. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked them.

Pretty much my point. I've read the book and my mom has watched the movie.
IMO, the book was usual fantasy ****, all ideas and cliches stolen from
some 'cornerstore' -books.
