This deserves its own thread.

Sick with covid and only listening to media gossip and the worst mix of bad actors and cut-and-run cowards, Biden, in a moment embodying the worst media c*cked instincts of the democratic party, thinks we need him to quit.

Personally I think this is a great thing. He has been a decent President, but his slide was risking handing it to Dumpf.

Fingers crossed the selection process is as quick and painless as possible...

This was the right decision. When you hear him talk, mentally obviously he is unfit to be President. If Biden is the candidate we are handing Trump the presidency on a silver platter. It's a catch-22 because being president is bad for obvious reasons, Biden being president is bad because he has dementia. Biden has accomplished some good things in his one term in office, and that legacy would be ruined by having a bad second term. For him, the democratic party, and the entire country, this decision was good.

Tbh he didn't think he needed to quit. He was clearly forced to quit by people in his own party (most notably Pelosi who is Mumra the Eternal) :)

Whatever it took, I'm glad he is gone.

Krshhh, boom

Was the final drip/straw Senator Joe Manchin (Independent - West Virginia)?https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj7d91338ydo

Joe Biden's delegates are free to pick their own choice! :run:

Where is the Kamala endorsement?!
Unless Manchin told him in private, I highly doubt Manchin saying it would have been the last straw.

Also, the fact he had it in writing makes me think Biden has known for at least a couple of days.

I wouldn't be surprised if the actual final straw was Representative Shelia Jackson Lee's death on Friday.

That is because she is not the best candidate.
What's your thought process behind that? I know you love Newsom, but any honest look at the problems in California play right into the most effective GOP attack lines, and it isn't lines Newsom can easily refute or turn to his advantage.
GOP: "Look at this striking footage of open drug use, homelessness, crime, and exorbitant cost of housing in the heart of California's biggest cities. You cannot defend that record!"
Newsom: "Orange man bad?"

We needed him to drop out, we are in the KHive now bois
I've been reading a book about European colonization in Africa so I keep reading KHive as khedive, the ruler of Egypt.

Also, I totally think Harris should choose AOC as her VP and run on a platform of "Make Your Grandpa Angry!"

I think He can win. I think he can run an aggressive campaign against Trump that will make Trump look as bad and as bonkers as he is. I do not think that Kamala can win enough swing states to get to 270

Re-quoting here for discussion:

What I'm anticipating, and looking forward to seeing (and repeatedly calling out) is all the folks who were going on-and-on about the age of the candidates, complaining about and mocking Biden's age, BSAB'ing the age issue for American politicians... suddenly going quiet as church mice about Trump's age. My guess is all the concern trolling about "age" and "cognitive decline" and similar... is getting ready to come to a screeching halt, in favor of a steady stream of hate/videos etc., about Kamala Harris... her appearance, her laugh, the sound of her voice, vague references to unlikeability and so on...
I mean I was equally critical on the age front, but yeah I have no doubt hypocrites are gonna hypocrite!
Of course. My point... that I don't want to lose sight of... is for everyone to remember, and don't let anyone forget, that "age/cognitive decline" was...

*booming echoing voice* :aargh: THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE OF THE 2024 CAMPAIGN!!!... CAMPAIGN!!!... CAMPAIGN!!!...CAMPAIGN!!!...

So now the Democrats have done what everyone wanted... Nancy Pelosi specifically* heroically went ahead and:

Biden is gone. So are folks (here on CFC included), going to keep pounding the age/cognitive decline issue, giving it the same level of constant attention and focus that they were giving it before? Or is it going to be suddenly quietly abandoned, as no longer important/relevant somehow?

*(As an aside... picturing Nancy Pelosi as Gollum in the above pic is even funnier than imagining Bernie or Kamala Harris )

I didn’t think it was really fair to associate his age with cognitive decline. A few gaffes, poor speech, I’m not sure if that’s really indicative of a serious problem with cognition or not. I mean cognition as far as making decisions and awareness of one’s environs, of which I as the layperson can’t say that he is in any way unfit to serve in his current capacity.

From NYT:

Now that the Biden team has official made its campaign committee the “Harris for President” committee, it is likely to face a lawsuit either directly from or engineered by Republicans. Jonathan Swan and I reported yesterday that the Republican National Committee is watching closely what happens with the Democratic money and whether it’s transferred to Harris, with people with direct knowledge of the plans saying that a lawsuit is likely.

i'm not sure who the democratic candidate is moving forward, but almost anyone is better than trump.

In some polls a whopping 85% of likely voters thought he was too old to be president. And you aren’t just asking him to be president now, but for 4 more years! Imagine how he would sound in October 2028 stumping for the next Dem! The latest Michigan poll had him down 7 to Trump. Completely untenable. Nate Bronze has written about this pretty profusely; Kamala is at worst a lateral move, but now she can actually run a campaign, yell about abortion - the most important thing for Dems to campaign on - and do a debate without saying things like jsjahdjdjj… Biden couldn’t do any of those things.

She should IMMEDIATELY pivot to hammering Trump on being too old. A lot of Americans agree. Well Biden is gone now. So!

From CNN

What to know about how the nominating process could play out

From CNN's Ethan Cohen
President Joe Biden will end his bid for reelection and has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
Despite Biden’s backing, it remains unclear whether Harris will become the nominee, or what process the party will take to select an alternative.
Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

Does Harris just become the nominee? No. While Biden has already endorsed his vice president for the nomination, there’s no succession protocol for the presidential ticket in the way there is for the office. Harris will have to win a majority of the convention just like anyone else.

What’s the “virtual roll call”? Democrats are in the process of setting up a system to conduct their presidential nomination vote remotely before the party’s convention next month.
Under a plan presented Friday, delegates would get 24 hours’ notice before voting begins, and voting would take place via digital ballots emailed to delegates.
However, the party did not take any steps to approve the plan at Friday’s meeting. It’s not yet clear whether the party will stick with the remote vote plan or scrap it and allow the formal vote to happen on the convention floor.

How would other candidates get into the race? Under party rules, candidates must meet certain requirements to have their names placed into nomination to be the party’s presidential candidate.
They must gather hundreds of signatures from delegates (at least 300, but not more than 600) from several states.
Candidates also must meet a series of requirements laid out in party rules, including that they are a “bona fide Democrat” and that they have “established substantial support for their nomination as the Democratic candidate” for president. While this determination is to be made by the DNC chair, the party has not yet released more details on how eligible candidates would be determined.

What are delegates? There are two separate sets of delegates.
There are 3,949 pledged delegates. These are delegates who were selected through various state-level processes. About 99% of them were pledged to vote for Biden, based on his performance in primaries and caucuses around the country. The individuals who were pledged to vote for Biden were also approved by his campaign.
Roughly 750 (747 as of the last word from the DNC – this number can change) are automatic delegates. Also known as “superdelegates,” these are individuals who serve as delegates by virtue of another position they hold or held. These delegates are free to vote for the candidate of their choice, but under normal circumstances, they can’t vote on the first ballot if their votes could impact the results of the nomination (it’s not exactly clear whether they’ll be able to participate on this first ballot in this case.

Are Democratic delegates required to vote for the candidate who won them? No. Under Democratic party rules, pledged delegates “shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.” However, the candidates’ right of review means that delegates can be expected to be loyal to the candidate to whom they’re pledged.
But now that Biden is no longer a candidate, his delegates are free to vote for whomever they’d like. He doesn’t need to formally “release” his delegates.

AOC is inelligible to run unfortunately... quite ironically... because she's too young (34 y/o)
