Have you ever died in your dream?

I have neither died nor killed anyone in a dream, as far as I can recall. However, people I'm close to die in ~30% of my dreams.

God, I wish my dreams were as surreal as this.

My dreams are always way to realistic, and are always throwing me off during the day since I can never remember what I actually did and what simply happened during my dream.

I wouldn't really define them as surreal. More just disturbing. Kinda sucks that your dreams are realistic enough to screw with your day.

Reference completed, now for the answer: Never. Not once, and I hope to keep it that way.

my dreams (that I remember) generally consist of such wonderfully exciting things as *infomercial montage voice*: shaving! walking to school! remembering to do laundry! homework! AND MORE.

I haven't had a dream where my life was in danger since I was very little, so no. I can't remember the last time I had a nightmare.

Well death in a dream is surreal enough to set it apart from reality for me. :P

Yes! Like half my dreams involve me doing things I planned to do the next day, freaking annoying.

I never seem to remember my dreams, but when I was a kid I always remembered them and whenever I woke up in the middle of the night it was because I died in the dream - and it happened quite often.

Most of the time it was death by falling but sometimes it's also being run over by a bus or a train, and it always ended with me waking up gasping for air with my heart racing just after the impact which would certainly have me killed if it was irl.

Nowadays I just don't wake up in the middle of the night and less than a minute after waking up I already forgot what I was dreaming about, I only seem to remember my dreams longer if they were really nice or really awful and I was woken up just before something important that was about to happen, so I don't really know for sure. I still dream about things including dieing but it seems that doesn't happen as often as it used to, might just be my memory though.

Knowing you are in a nightmare does not negate the will to kill yourself in it, in fact i had a series of recurring dreams in my elementary years when i did just that. There was a shadowy form chasing me in the house, and i did not want to see what it was. So instead i chose to kill myself.
In retrospect it does seem like a very good metaphor for a repressed memory: something is chasing you, something linked to you, but you would rather die than face it...

The closest I have come to death in a dream is finding a skeleton buried just outside a construction site that neighbored a concert hall that either the Governor of Virginia or the POTUS was visiting. It was a very Monkish dream.

I try to stay up as late as possible to avoid sleeping, but like death itself sleep inevitably takes hold. 2 hours later I sit up screaming, again I dreamed I was Abraham Lincoln and again inevitably I get shot. I try to do all sorts of things the moment I realize I'm stuck in Ford's theater, but run, hide, fight, nothing stops my inevitable demise.

All I can recall is being suffocated in a huge rolling duststorm. Then I woke up after that.

Last night I actually dreamed I time traveled to the far future and for some reason I decided to dig up my deceased body and rob my own grave. Woke up sometime in the middle of that and don't remember much else.

I have dreamt that I was dead, and it persisted for minutes upon waking. Never actually dreamt to have died, or I have not recall it, I forget my dreams.

No. I have always woken up moments before death. The weird thing is, if it is a falling dream, when I wake up it feels like I'm landing in my bed. Can't really explain it.

I think virtually everyone here once had a dream about falling to death.

Most people wake up during the fall, hence Inception.

I've died in a number of dreams. My dreams are fairly violent and grisly if I haven't cleared my room of allergens and have good airflow. Most of my deaths haven't been too bad though.

Sometimes, in my old nightmares, i would consciously try to wake up before hitting the ground in the fall, but this caused massive pressure to myself and it felt nearly as horrible as being destroyed by the fall.
It seems, in retrospect, that the death was a cathartic moment, needed by the balance of the dream to convey a point, so my untimely exit was 'punishable' in that way. But then, one has to assume, even my exit was calculated as part of the dream :)

I forgot to make a reference to Perchance to Dream! I'm a failure as a human being. :suicide:

I have died in a dream whlist looking at it from 3rd person. Just seeing how a huge block of stone kills over and over. It was a magnificient dream - dying, being crushed, reviving, just to see the loop complete again and agaan.

I've never dreamed of falling, actually.
