Hawk03-5CC Persian Astronauts

Ok, done. Probably 10 times as 'exciting' as Overseer's. Nothing happened. I MM'd, so ToE finishes the same turn as RP.

Spoiler Turnset :
Turn 0- 1400AD- Right now we have a 9 turn window between finishing Industrialization and finishing ToE. RP is 11 turns. Hit enter
IBT- A Mongol pikeman and a MDI are landed on our territory, and a Knight dies of disease in the jungle.
Turn 1- 1405AD- Cav kills pike. Knight kills MDI. I make a taxman in Persepolis. Now, ToE will come in 15 turns, the same turn as RP.
IBT- ZZZ
Turn 2- 1410 AD- ZZZ
IBT- Aztecs ask for peace, with us giving ToG. yeah right. Pasargadae Cav->Cav. Antioch Courthouse->Cav.
Turn 3- 1415 AD- We are suddenly at -35 GPT. I lower Science Slider and MM Persepolis to complete ToE slower again.
IBT- Greece wants Electricity for Printing Press. Yeah, right.
Turn 4- 1420 AD-zzz
iBT- Arbela Colosseum->Cav
Turn 5- Science to 20%, Ind in 1
IBT- Finish Industrialization, start RP, in 12. Switch builds in all cities except Persepolis to Factory.

Done. Not much happened, I burned Chalco (Aztec city on our continent), built railroads, built the ToE.

Pre-Turn (1450 AD):
-I notice the Aztec city of Chalco in ex-Carthage. Well, we’re at war with them anyway, so I send a couple of Cavalry to deal with it.

IBT:
-Pasargadae: Factory->Uni Suffrage as Pre-Build for Hoover

Turn 1 (1455 AD):
-Kill an Aztec Pike and destroy Chalco. (1-0)

IBT:
-Egypt, for whatever reason, is moving a pike through our territory.

Turn 2 (1460 AD):
Yawn.

IBT:
-Susa: Cav->Galleon (We could use a navy)

Turn 3 (1465 AD):
:sleep:

IBT:
-Greece and Mongols Embargo us, don’t care.
-Antioch: Factory->Harbor

Turn 4 (1470 AD):
ZOMG SO MUCH HAPPUND
J/K
ZZZ

IBT:
-Susa: Galleon->Ironclad

Turn 5 (1475 AD):
Zzz

IBT:
Zzz

Turn 6 (1480 AD):
-Suddenly, RP will finish next turn, and ToE will finish in two turns. Woo-hoo, we get to turn off science next turn and get cash!
-Actually, we get to turn it off this turn- I turn science down to 0 and switch the taxman in Persepolis to a scientist, and we still get RP next turn. :D

IBT:
-We get RP, I set science to AT and wait a turn.
-Arbela: Factory->Artillery (And guess what, we don’t have rubber!)
-Antioch: Harbor->Ironclad
-Antioch’s borders expand, we can now move some of those workers 

Turn 7 (1485 AD):
-MM Persepolis to max out gold this turn.

IBT:
-We finish ToE, Atomic Theory and Electronics are ours!
-I set research to Corporation, due in 9 at 70%.
-Persepolis now begins work on a Factory.
-Susa: Ironclad->Cavalry
-The people love me and build my palace a left wing.

Turn 8 (1490 AD):
-Re-MM Persepolis for shields, Corporation goes up to 10 turns.
-Search the world for Rubber- and see a source in our “Empty Zone”. :lol: I build a colony on it.
-I also find that this world is no shortage of Rubber- everyone but Germany has a source.
-I shift-U all 6 of our Muskets to Infantry.
-I switch Pasargadae to Hoover Dam, due in 10.

IBT:
-An Aztec Galley appears to the North of Susa…

Turn 9 (1495 AD):
…And is sunk by our Ironclad. (2-0)

IBT:
-Arbela: Arty->Arty
-Antioch: Ironclad->Inf

Turn 10 (1500 AD):
Zzz

So what now, research techs? Speaking of which, we could use Nationalism to get Espionage, and Sanitation to to get our cities to size 20+.

Egypt spent 10 turns moving a pike through our territory from Arthribis to around Mendes (It's visible in the screenshot). I would have told them to leave or declare, but, well, Egypt IS paying us 22 gpt for Ivory.

So, what now. Fight Egypt or Greece?

What do you guys want Espionage for in a space race game on Monarch? I play Conquests so my experience might not apply, but will the AIs really get close enough to launch that you need to watch them? I fully admit to only having successfully planted a spy once and then reloading and not planting it or something like that. I know little about spy tactics. I guess The Darloks would have a field day with me :lol:.

With all those workers and only 5 cities sanitation seems like a no-brainer. I'd irrigate all those mines first, even if Vanilla specialists work out weaker than Conquests ones.

Yes, we probably won't need to watch them, but spies are useful regardless.

I'd say we could do a little Greek bashing, they are way too large for my liking. We might do a military buildup first, or they could hurt us bad. Our slave border might not survive a war if they have cavalry. At least we do have rubber. After our trade ends, Egypt might be the better target to bash on.

P.S. It is 1500 AD, we can't afford to detour into optionals, we need to move up the tech tree as fast as possible, since our research rate is so slow. Maybe Sanitation is the exception, turning our cities into metros should help research.

Forgive me for ignorance, but for what exactly in this game? Again, I really don't know the spy game. Initiating propaganda won't help you guys... you can't have another city. Did I miss something here and you guys need to steal tech and spies make such easier? Sabotaging production I'd think pointless... what.. you feel worried about them beating you to the U.N.? Exposing spies? Totally lost here. Drakan said this in respect to a recent win of mine:

You have deployed no spies at all, impressive.

I simply don't get it. I guess if you need to steal tech a spy can help a good bit... but how/why do you have Epsionage if you need to steal tech??? Totally at a loss here.

@The Overseer: Who said anything about researching them?

The trade with Egypt can be cancelled at any time now.

Point taken. Theft is pretty expensive, so I assume you mean the pointy stick university.

Actually, I mean the gun-in-face university. :D

If you plant a spy, you can see your opponent's military count at any time. Very, very helpful. Also, stealing technology can be cheaper than actually researching it in the IA and MA. If you research Espionage, you gain the ability to steal such tech.

With a spy does it cost you to see your opponent's military count? I know you can investigate cities without a spy.

I have the file and will play within 2 days. So the plan is to research sanitation and build up military?

@sk8boardbob: No, the plan is to go the Corporation->Refining->Steel->Etc line, and then trade for Sanitation at some point.

@doug: If you have a spy planted, you can see the military of that civ on the F3 screen for no extra charge.

Also, spies work during war, unlike embassies.

Um... sk8? You there?

It has been a week, I suggest e-mailing him, and if no answer, skip time. Haven't heard much from anyone in this for a week.
